The Study of the Increase of Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurial Competency Thru Win-Win Type Field Study: New Store Movement Case (상생형 현장실습교육을 통한 기업가정신과 창업가 역량 향상에 관한 연구: 새가게운동 사례)

  • There is a growing interest in the technology transfer and commercialization both at home and abroad. Accordingly, this study looked at the concept of technology transfer and commercialization, identified the factors that should be taken into account in order to facilitate technology transfer and commercialization, and then performed a empirical analysis. As for the conventional technology transfer and commercialization, there was a tendency to limit its scope to the exploration, transfer and commercialization of technology itself. Here in this research, technology transfer and commercialization is defined the category to expand as various activities implemented in order to make sure that intellectual properties such as intangible technological developments, know-how, and knowledge are transferred between the relevant parties through a contract or negotiation, and the party to which the transfer is made can then further develop and exploit the technology into tangible products and other activities to obtain economic benefit out of that. In addition, the findings of the positive analysis of technology transfer and commercialization revealed that the focus of facilitating technology transfer has been on the technology itself, its management and securing efficiency of the systems and institutions involved in the technology transfer and commercialization. So there was lack of recognition as to the importance of financial support given to the phase of technology commercialization. This indicates that when it comes to the technology transfer and commercialization, quantitative performance has been the focus of interest such as patent application, registration, number of technology transfers, royalty, etc. So there was not enough understanding as to the issues of starting up a business, creating quality jobs through technology transfer and commercialization, which are directly related to the realization of the creative economy. In this regard, this research is expected to be used for the development for the future policies to boost technology transfer and commercialization as it suggests not only simply ensuring quantitative performance but also necessary to create the environment for the creation of the stable ecosystem for the parties involved in the technology transfer and commercialization and then to build circumstances in which creative economy can be realized.

The "open incubation model": deriving community-driven value and innovation in the incubation process

  • Globalization, increasing technological advancements and dynamic knowledge diffusion are moving our world closer together at a unique scale and pace. At the same time, our rapidly changing society is confronted with major challenges ranging from demographic to economic ones; challenges that necessitate highly innovative solutions, forcing us to reconsider the way that we actually innovate and create shared value. As such the linear, centralized innovation models of the past need to be replaced with new approaches; approaches that are based upon an open and collaborative, global network perspective where all innovation actors strategically network and collaborate, openly distribute their ideas and co-innovate/co-create in a global context utilizing our society's full innovation potential (Innovation 4.0 - Open Innovation 2.0). These emerging innovation paradigms create "an opportunity for a new entrepreneurial renaissance which can drive a Cambrian like explosion of sustainable wealth creation" (Curley 2013). Thus, in order to materialize this entrepreneurial renaissance, it is critical not only to value but also to actively employ this new innovation paradigms so as to derive community-driven shared value that stems from global innovation networks. This paper argues that there is a gap in existing business incubation model that needs to be filled, in that the innovation and entrepreneurship community cannot afford to ignore the emerging innovation paradigms and rely upon closed incubation models but has to adopt an "open incubation" (Ziouvelou 2013). The open incubation model is based on the principles of open innovation, crowdsourcing and co-creation of shared value and enables individual users and innovation stakeholders to strategically network, find collaborators and partners, co-create ideas and prototypes, share their ideas/prototypes and utilize the wisdom of the crowd to assess the value of these project ideas/prototypes, while at the same time find connections/partners, business and technical information, knowledge on start-up related topics, online tools, online content, open data and open educational material and most importantly access to capital and crowd-funding. By introducing a new incubation phase, namely the "interest phase", open incubation bridges the gap between entrepreneurial need and action and addresses the wantpreneurial needs during the innovation conception phase. In this context one such ecosystem that aligns fully with the open incubation model and theoretical approach, is the VOICE ecosystem. VOICE is an international, community-driven innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem based on open innovation, crowdsourcing and co-creation principles that has no physical location as opposed to traditional business incubators. VOICE aims to tap into the collective intelligence of the crowd and turn their entrepreneurial interest or need into a collaborative project that will result into a prototype and to a successful "crowd-venture".

Techne Odyssey: An Introductory Engineering Course based on Soft Engineering (공학기행: 소프트 공학 기반 공학 입문 강의)

  • This paper proposes an introductory engineering course for investigating the history of technology and the philosophy of technology. Soft engineering, a new engineering field to explore proper technology and appropriate ways of exercising engineering, was explored. Creative cases for technology are presented following the most creative, successful, and proficient periods-ancient Greek technology, the Renaissance, and Silicon Valley era. Ancient Greek technology was investigated in terms "techne" with the origin of technology and/or art, and their equivalence. The Renaissance period was investigated in terms of "Uomo universale (universal man)" with Firenze geniuses. The successful drivers for the Silicon Valley creativeness were based on "entrepreneurship" and continuation and revitalization of modern and near future technological cultures. The factors driving creativeness were explored. To approach the difficult goal to grasp the course subject issues, facts, and/or concepts of the history and philosophy of technology, this paper takes a stance as a tourist guide and tourists utilizing considerable offline onsite experience and online information. Categorized course materials were surveyed at the beginning of each period and presented according to the preference of the students to maintain the students' interests. Team efforts, including group discussions and project executions, have been encouraged to seek the aspects of creativeness and/or technology.

An Exploratory Study on the Buying Decision-making Process of Automobile Books (자동차전문서적 구매의사 결정과정에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • Publication Industry of scientific technology is showing tendency of decreasing in sales, which clearly draws down curve since 2000. The printing culture is declining whether it is because of trend avoiding pure science or technological science and engineering, advancement of mass media or increasing frequency of using internet. Nevertheless, researcher considered car industry in publication industry as a life-long purpose for study. For this reason, the researcher tried to find the variables of the marketing which give impact on the customers such as student group and consumer who buys cars, when buying professional books. The found variables are expected to have a huge impact on the publication industry of professional books. As a result of research, in the area of the vision and motive, most said that they have "chosen a major in car because they liked car in usual base." In the stage of recognizing the problem, they buy the books when it is inevitably necessary. In the stage of searching for the information, they get information from advertisements, friends, professors, internet or sales clerk in book stores. In the stage of evaluation, they look for the title and the publication date of the books. In addition, in the stage of deciding purchase, "buy immediately" was the most frequent answer while impulsive purchase is the least frequent answer. In the stage of evaluating after purchase, many of them mostly are satisfied with their purchase.

How Do Research Capabilities and Financial Resources Affect Professors' Entrepreneurship?: Using the Speed of University Spin-off Formations (교수의 연구역량과 연구비 수혜가 대학스핀오프 기업 형성 속도에 미치는 영향)

  • University-to-industry technology transfer has become an increasingly important issue in recent years. Studies on technology transfer and commercialization evolved to diverse knowledge transfer channels. Among them, university spin-off is not only known as the most direct and tangible method but also suitable for effectively transferring tacit knowledge. Much of the studies on university spin-offs are mostly focused on macro-level but studies using the individual professors as their unit of analysis need better understanding as well. This paper investigates why the speed of university spin-off formations differ among individual professors drawing on the resource-based view. Utilizing data of 149 professors in 25 universities who formed spin-offs, Cox regression results suggest that professors' technological research capabilities, academic research capabilities and financial resources promote university spin-off formations.

  • Due to the recent mid- to long-term slump and falling growth rates in the global economy, interest in organizational structures that create new products or services as a new alternative to survive and develop in an opaque environment both internally and externally, and enhance organizational sustainability through changes in production methods and business innovation is increasing day by day. In this atmosphere, we agree that the growth of small and medium-sized venture companies has a significant impact on the national economy, and various efforts are being made to enhance the technological innovation capabilities of the members so that these small and medium-sized venture companies can enhance and sustain their performance. The purpose of this study is also to investigate how the technological innovation capabilities of small and medium-sized venture companies correlate with the performance of knowledge management and to analyze the role of network capabilities to organize the strategic activities of enterprise to obtain the resources and organizational capabilities to be used for value creation from external networks. In other words, research was conducted on the impact of technological innovation capabilities of small and medium venture companies on knowledge management performance by using network capabilities as parameters. Therefore, in this study, we would like to verify the hypothesis that innovation capabilities will have a positive impact on knowledge management performance by using network capabilities of small and medium venture companies. Economic activities based on technological innovation capabilities should respond quickly to new changes in an environment where uncertainty has increased, and lead to macro-economic growth and development as well as overcoming long-term economic downturns so that they can become the nation's new growth engine as well as sustainable growth and survival of the organization. In addition, this study was conducted by setting the most important knowledge management performance within the organization as a dependent variable. As a result, R&D and learning capabilities among technological innovation capabilities have no impact on financial performance. In contrast, it was shown that corporate innovation activities have a positive impact on both financial and non-financial performance. The fact that non-financial factors such as quality and productivity improvement are identified in the management of small and medium-sized venture companies utilizing their technological innovation capabilities is contrary to a number of studies by those corporate innovation activities affect financial performance during prior research. The reason for this result is that research companies have been out of start-up companies for more than seven years, but sales are less than 10 billion won, and unlike start-up companies, R&D and learning capabilities have more positive effects on intangible non-financial performance than financial performance. Corporate innovation activities have been shown to have a positive (+) impact on both financial and non-financial performance, while R&D and learning capabilities have a positive (+) impact on financial performance by parameters of network capability. Corporate innovation activities have been shown to have no impact on both financial and non-financial performance, and R&D and learning capabilities have no impact on non-financial performance. It could be seen that the parameter effects of network competency are limited to when R&D and learning competencies are derived from quantitative financial performance. The Purpose of this study is to present how to seek more participation in industry-university cooperation from Industry, University, Research Institute, and Government (I-U-R-G) using success factor analysis of "Excellent Industry-University Cooperation Coordinator". The findings can be summarized as follows. First, it is indicated that Coordinator' business aggressiveness positively affect the volume of business and technology DB excavation. Second, it is indicated that the number of agency staff positively affect the volume of business, the number of Project derived by Coordinator and new professors participation rate. Third, it is indicated that the Fellowship of the Enterprises positively affect the volume of business, technology DB excavation and new professors participation rate. Lastly, it is indicated that organization maintains, center chapter leadership, and local government'commitment don't have positive effect on the performance of I-U Cooperation of SMEs.. Therefore, in order to improve the performance of cooperation technology development projects that affect the technological competitiveness of SMEs, I-U cooperation coordinator needs more continuous attention and support from Industry, University, Research institution, and Government.

  • Companies strive to have the ability to flexibly respond to environmental changes in modern society with its rapidly changing business environment. That is, companies try to achieve the corporate performance by using a variety of strategies since companies that don't go along with changes in industry are likely to fall behind. Also, the corporate performance is a key element in national competitiveness, and government is willing to support companies to maximize their performance in various ways. This study examines whether there is a difference between corporate strategies and government policies according to the retention and the type of certification of innovation. The company's strategy configuration effort is largely divided into exploration and exploitation of external knowledge, while the government's policy is divided into direct support, indirect support, and financial support. The corporate performance is analyzed using technological performance; innovative perspective and the sales; and the actual corporate performance as proxy variables. As a result, the variable affecting the performance differs according to the retention of certification of innovation. The variable affecting the corporate performance differs according to the type of certification of innovation as well. Therefore, it was found that companies can achieve the corporate performance by considering the situation at hand and the differentiated action strategies depending on the type of certification of innovation.

  • This study is empirically intended to put forward the modeling and process improvement measures for the SCM capability in small venture firms. The findings are summarized as follows. There were strategic alliance, technological development and centralization in the modeling of strategic planning for supply chain, not the least of which is strategic alliance, followed by centralization and technological development. There were routing scheduling, network integration and third party logistics outsourcing in decision making, not the least of which was network integration. There were customer service management, productivity management and quality management in management control, not the least of which was quality management. And there were order management choice, pricing demand, shipment delivery and customer management in transaction support system, not the least of which was order management choice. As for the above-mentioned findings, to maximize the SCM capability and operate the optimized process in small venture firms, the existing strategic alliances can optimize the quality management and stabilize the transaction support system through the network sharing and integration from the perspective of relevant organizational members' capability and process improvement. And the strategic linkage between firms can maximize the integrated capability of information system beyond the simple exchange relation between electronic data, achieving a differentiated competitive advantage. Consequently, the systematization and centralization for the maximization of SCM capability, including the infrastructure construction based on the system compatibility and reliability for information integration, should be preceded before the modeling of the integrated capability for optimum supply chain and the best process management in the smart era.

Digital Creative Labour -A Perspective of the Ethics of Labour and Subjectivity of the Younger Generation in Korea (디지털 창의노동 -젊은 세대의 노동 윤리와 주체성에 관한 한 시각)

  • Beyond the technological behaviorism-oriented notion of prosumers, the current study explores the question of digital creative labour of the youth in the interrelated context of post-capitalist crisis and neoliberal ethos of selfhood. This analysis is situated particularly in the social conflicts and struggles in Korea, where the problems related to the precarization of the younger generation have been increasingly aggravated (in the realm of embodied reality) whereas their digital activities have been highly expressive (in the realm of mediated reality). The contradictions embedded in the question of the labour of the youth are delineated in the respect of the subjectivities of young free labour, or 'digital creative labour' in proposed terms: the precarious young free labour in Korea is the compound of social fragmentation, economic polarization, expansion of cognitive and emotion labour, boom of hedonistic consumerism, economic-cultural celebration of creativity and self-entrepreneurship, technological saturation of digital media, subjective/collective affects around excitement and ambition but also of anxiety and fear. The ambivalence and complexity of the young free labour is converged at the emergence of homo-economicus (Michel Foucault) through the subjectivation of the social (con)fusion of post-capitalist crisis and neoliberal governmentality of selfhood.
