  • Physical properties of paper can be explained in terms of the changes in fiber's morphological properties. As the paper machine speed increases, the basis weight decreases and the mixing ratio of inferior recycled fibers increases, paper break becomes important than ever before. One of the objectives of this study is to analyze paper's physical, mechanical and fracture mechanical properties depending on softwood(SW) and hardwood(HW) mixing ratios and recycling. Fibers were refined by Valley beater to 450 mL CSF. Handsheets of 30 g/$\textrm{m}^2$ were prepared at different mixing ratios. Fracture toughness was measured as the amount of energy applied to cracked sample before total failure. Fracture toughness showed different trend to other strength properties. At the mixing ratio of SW 80: HW 20, papers showed the maximum fracture toughness. At this mixing ratio, flexible softwood fibers were mostly broken and stiff hardwood fibers were mostly pulled out.

  • The purpose in this study is to identify beliefs about curriculum orientation of Korean secondary school home economics teachers for the development of home economics curriculum and the change of their curriculum orientation. The curriculum orientations explored were academic rationalism, technical, cognitive process, personal relevance, and social reconstruction. A mail questionnaire, Individual Curriculum Orientation Profile (ICOP), was used to survey randomly selected 525 home economics teachers. Home economics teachers agreed with the cognitive process as their predominant curriculum orientation. The second predominant type with which home economics teachers agreed most was personal relevance orientation. Home economics teachers’age, major, college type, and teaching years were significantly related to the academic rationalism curriculum orientation, and the college type for bachelor’s degree was significantly related to the technical curriculum orientation. Age and major in master’s degree were significantly related to the social reconstruction curriculum orientation.

  • In this paper the failure possibility and the error possibility are used to represent reliability of a technical component and that of a human operator, respectively. The failure possibility and the error possibility are fuzzy sets on the interval [0,1]. In a man-machine system, reliability of the technical component and that of the human operator are usually affected by many factors, e.g., the environment in which a machine is operated, psychological stress of the human operator, etc. The possibility is derived from not only the failure or the error rate but also estimates of these factors. The fuzzy reasoning plays an important role in the derivation. The reliability analysis is performed by the use of the possibility obtained by the present method. Moreover this paper discusses the sensitivity analysis which evaluates what extent the change of the estimation of each factor has an influence on reliability of a man-machine system. The important factors to be ameliorated are shown through the sensitivity analysis.

  • This study analyzes an economic efficiencies of apples, pears, and grapes farming. We evaluate an annual economic overall efficiency (OE), allocative efficiency (AE), technology efficiency (TE), pure technology efficiency (PTE), and scale efficiency (SE) using data envelopment analysis (DEA). We also measure returns to scale of farms, and the change of technical efficiency of frontier farms. Lastly we estimate the effects of some explanatory variables on allocative, pure technical, and scale efficiencies.

  • The pore structure of paper was modified by the application of the blending of pulp, refining, and filler particle size and ash content. It was conformed that the reflectivity of paper can be modified by the combination of the above parameters. It was also found that the change of reflectivity of paper was greatly dependent on the pore structure, such as average pore size, pore size distribution and porosity. The average pore size was decreased with addition of HwBKP, but the smallest average pore size was obtained from the addition of 80% HwBKP Refining of pulp decreased both average pore size and the reflectivity of paper. The pore size distribution of filled paper can be varied by the combination of filler particle size and ash content

  • Three kinds of papers were prepared from different beating degree of pulps. Physical and optical properties were examined to elucidate the deterioration mechanism of paper according to beating degrees. Changes of double folds, elongation, water retention value, DP, K/S value and visible, UV region light absorption spectra of those papers treated by UV light were studied. Double folds and brightness were decreased more rapidly by UV treatment with increasing of beating degree. The light absorption rates of pulps in visible and UV region were also increased with change of beating level. The formation of new hydrogen bonds and higher light absorption rate of pulps according to beating induced to absorb and interact with much UV light. These phenomena maybe brought about to accelerate paper deteriortion by UV treatment both optical and physical properties.

  • The Wastewater of toilet paper mill recycling recovered milk carton was used as a raw material for this study. According to the actual mill conditions, hydraulic retention time was adjusted to 12 hours and F/M (Food/Micro-organism) ratio was adjusted to 0.23. Temperature of aeration basin was varied from 2$0^{\circ}C$ to 5$0^{\circ}C$. The change of Micro-organisms and removal efficiency of pollutant were investigated at the varied temperature of basin. Aeration basin using high thermal microbial inoculants showed more removal efficiency of SS, COD than aeration basin using conventional microbial inoculants at high temperature. Floc consolidation of aeration basin using high thermal microbial inoculants added sludge was better than that of sludge from aeration basin using conventional microbial inoculants.

  • Presence of small amount of old newspapers printed with waterbased flexographic inks leads to a significant loss of brightness of the deinked pulp by flotation process. Recently there has been an increased interests in employing neutral deinking processes to solve the problems associated with waterbased flexo ink. A comparative experimental study was performed to evaluate the efficiency of neutral deinking and conventional alkaline deinking for ONP furnishes contaminated with flexo ink. Effects of the deinking processes on pulp quality and white water characteristics were examined. It was shown that neutral deinking would provide significant improvement in brightness, yield, and freeness as compared with conventional alkaline deinking. Three was no increase change in brightness when OMG was added in the furnish up to 20%, and it was attributed to the redeposition of flexo inks on chemical pulp fibers.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the cause of fine wrinkles occurred in silky wallpaper and its solution. The characteristics of base papers, wallpapers and adhesives (conventional and modified) were evaluated to find the possibility for the occurrence of fine wrinkles. It was found that the base papers and wallpapers did not cause the occurrence of silky wallpaper. It was concluded that the fine wrinkles in silky wallpaper was caused by the nonuniform distribution of adhesive, the localized shrinkage of adhesive and the breaking the balance between the resistance of wallpaper and shrinkage of adhesive. Three possible solutions for the prevention of the occurrence of fine wrinkles in silky paper were recommended.
