On the Current Status and Future Trend of Distributed Object System (분산 객체 시스템의 현찰과 기술 전망)

  • As network has high speed and wide communication capability, users demand diverse and new software to satisfy their needs. To meet users needs, the softwares for multimedia or groupware or distributed virtual environments can communicate the widely distributed information fast and accurately. Even though the technology for this is under development, it is deficient to support the reliable computer communication. Distributed Object System aims, as the new paradigm of distributed system software development to overcome this problem, to obtain in distributed environment the easiness of development and management, expandability, reusability which object oriented technologies support by solving the complexity of communication processing through the object oriented methods. This paper aims to introduce distributed object system, its technological properties and the current status and trend of technology development related to its standardization. Additionally, with explaining the Replicated Shared Object System(RSOS) which is developed in our country as one of the distributed object systems, its future prospects and technical issues are discussed.

  • The objective of the review is to introduce the evaluation method of welding joint designs by using forces extracted from FE models. This evaluation method is currently being used for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) project in the United States by request of the customer Engineer. The evaluation method was applied to critical joints connected by Fillet or Partial Joint Penetration (PJP) welds in car body structure for SEPTA project. The additional manual analysis is required based on the fact that Technical Specification in the United States requires the Contractor to apply Complete Joint Penetration (CJP) welds to all structural connections in Car body. However, in the car body design for Septa project there are some areas where CJP welds are not applied due to structural and manufacturing problems.

  • While non-uniform shapes are appearing as an apparent building style recently, most architects predominantly think structure and construction technology should support the designed shape of non-uniform structures determined by the architect. Within such a governance structure of architect's perception, the role of an engineer is emphasized for technical support only. Especially, in making a decision on a structural design and plan, if various and objective reviews are not conducted, the design is very likely to be left only as a drawing even if the design is appropriate for criteria and norms. With the recognition of such problems, the present study attempted to propose an equal cooperative relationship between architects and engineers in designing non-uniform structures in the future.

  • We have made an effort to build an affluent society since the industrial revolution. But we have just realized that the effort is also spoiling ourselves. Because our wealth has been acquired at the sacrifice of the environment only in which we can live. The amount of carbon dioxide emitted by burning fossil fuels is representing the environment disruption problems. Fortunately our mind ts changing. Many trials are being paid against the increase of carbon dioxide to save our environment. The roll of consulting engineers is to make a keen effort tn each professional field and to appeal the importance of mindtng the environment by giving a clear image of the problems to the public. The aim of the technical development should not be at the convenience of our lives but should be at the decrease of environmental load. That Is a new utopia of technology.nology.

  • 본 연구는 한국 주식 시장인 KRX 데이터에 중점을 둔 투자 전략의 최적화를 목표로 하였다. 전통적인 기술 분석 방법은 투자자들의 경험에 의존하여 파라미터를 선택하였다. 하지만 이 연구에서는 기존의 경험에 기반한 파라미터 선택 대신 유전 알고리즘을 사용하여 파라미터를 최적화했다. 결과적으로, 이 전략은 상승장과 하락장 모두에서 buy-and-hold 전략보다 더 나은 성과를 보였다. 이는 기술 분석의 파라미터 최적화의 중요성을 강조하며, 더 효과적인 투자 전략 개발의 가능성을 보여준다.

  • The trend of the web is moving from portal-centered to user-centered, and RIA(rich internet application) is considered best solution for usability and functionality of the next generation web. But the lack of reference document or technical guide for RIA implementation is a big obstacle for extension of RIA environment to practical business engineer or user. In this paper, I will suggest the implementation conceptand reference site for user-centered environment based on RIA concept. The suggested concept support wire/wireless environment, and use the e-mail that is already used by many company or portal. The contents of this paper will be very helpful to the practical engineer or portal/company that want to use or implement about RIA environment.

The design of 111m high steel towers with 220kv double circuits crossing 12 km wide Bangladesh River (230KV 2회선승 111M 높이 철탑설계 (I) (강폭 12km인 Bangladesh Jamana강 횡단용))

  • East Parts of Bangladesh have been benifited by low cost energy generated by domestic natural gas but West parts where energy generated by imported fuel. Bangladesh Government authority has very much concerned to transmit the low cost electricity to the West from the East for past several years. To solve such concerns, cross-country 230kv double circuits Power transmission line was proposed, however there was a big obstacle for the realization of this line to cross the Jamuna river which has 12 km long width with a deep muddy river bed. A consultant engineering firm named Merz-Mclellan anyway finalized this plan and a world-wide bid was announced on June 31, 1979. Due to the expected difficulty to construct the towers on sea like area, only three construction groups have participated. including a Korean joint venture organization of Samsung-Korean Developement corporation-Kolon Electric Machinery company. After 3 months bid evaluation, contract was awarded to Korean Consosium and KEM Co was in charge of designing steel towers with anchor bolts and base plates beside to electrical engineering field. Then KEM Co have faced and over-comed many unenpected technical difficulties such as forced eccentricity joint on base plate, distorsion issue of 60mm thick plates welding, threading anchor bolts, tad heat treatment of some anchor bolts, disagreement from Consultant Engineer on multiplying factor of leg stresses for 45$^{\circ}$ wind and on reducing O.L.F for wind loads on cables for such 1220km long spans. After spending two years long period for designing and engineering towers, base plates, and anchor bolts, first shipment of tower was finally realized on Nov. 8, 1981 and on the other hand KDD has proceeded concrete caisson work on schedule at Jamuna river site and expected to complete tower erection and stringing of cables within this year of 1982 which was original completion target.

  • Investigation results on shear connections design procedure which is conducted in Korea show that there are many communication problems between structural engineer and detailer, and there are unnecessary work procedures. To solve conventional connection design procedure problems, improved shear connection design procedure is suggested. Most of suggested design procedure is controlled by structure engineer, and the introduction of connections standardization makes computer aided design possible. Standardized connection details are satisfied with structural safety and constructability, and it improves design efficiency. Many problems which are caused by conventional design procedure are fundamentally blocked by using suggested design procedure.

  • In the design of an automotive structural component, one of the more important tasks for a design engineer is to determine the life of the component and to ensure that the component will not fail prematurely. In order to accomplish this, a design engineer will first use simple section analysis to come up with a section shape in the concept design stage and use more advanced analysis for stress level. At this stage, the analysis should focus on understanding overall behavior in terms of load paths and gross stress levels. A model that is adequate for a stiffness analysis of the structure will usually provide an adequate level of stress information in the design process. To perform a detailed stress analysis, the structure models must have the detailed local areas such as stress concentrations or force(or displacement) distributions. This paper is to present the design considerations for the stress analysis of automotive structure.

A Study for Improving the Managerial and Technological Consultancy for Korean Medium Industries. (한국 중소기업을 위한 경영.기술 지도사업의 효율화 방안)

  • Since medium and small manufacturing enterprises have , played a very important role not only in national economy but also in political and social relationships all of the countries in the world have paid favorable policies and programmes for protecting and promoting this sector. In Korea main ingredients of promoting policy for this sector consist of (1) encouragement to modernize facilities and rationalize operation (2) special priority in bank loan (3) promotion of industrial cooperatives (4) prevention of infringement by large industries. However, substantial investigation for problems incurred in medium industries has revealed that unless medium industries improve and raise their technological and managerial skillfulness for themselves all other measures are useless to solve the problems. This realization has induced all of the countries to render extension services on both of technology and management to assist and support their own effort for rationalization. Also in Korea during past 20 years many technical and managerial research institutes have rendered free consultancy services to medium industries by the support of government subsidy. Among them the joint extension services project performed by the Medium Industry Bank and UNDP during 1967 and 1975 might he listed as model case because of its broad and integrated activities and participation of foreign experts. We think many precepts should be :learned from the study of this project. Korean economy is expected to develop rapidly throughout coming'80 in spite of many obstacles, tut there is an apprehension that gap in of every facet between medium and large enterprises might he deepened and enlarged. To prevent the actualization of so-called dual structure of national economy and to promote stabilized medium industries with high added value productivity which are shown in well developed countries, consultancy assistance ana extension services should be strengthened much more than ever. Fortunately in 1978 legislation of "Medium and small industry promotion act" has paved the way for the systematic achivement of consultancy and extension services which shall be integrated by the government overall program. Under new framework thoughtfull accomplishment should be undertaken considering precious precepts obtained from past experience and failure. Special attention should be given to the technical liaison officer scheme, exclusive participation of only professional institutes, strict qualification and training for consultants for the future succsseful implementation.
