  • The purpose of the study was to examine the correlations between team cognition and team process and team performance in e-learning based team learning environment. 55 graduate students consisting of 11 teams participated in the study voluntarily during the spring semester. In the result, it was found that team cognition had no relationship with team process and performance although sub-variables of team cognition and team process as well as team performance had a significant relation with each other. Some further research issues were addressed in terms of team leadership and potential variables affecting each variables.

  • Utilizing cross-functional project teams is an attractive organizing option, particularly in solving complex and innovative problems that require diverse sources of information, knowledge, and expertise brought by individuals from different functional backgrounds. This study is aiming at finding the group dynamics surrounding and inside the teams for the better understand what makes cross-functional project teams effective. Adopting variables from small group research and organizational context research, I extract critical antecedents, mediator, and team-coaching that lead to team performance. Data from 32 cross-functional project teams consisting of 214 individual respondents are analyzed through regression analyses for hypotheses testing. Results of the analyses demonstrate that the team process and team performance are significantly affected by the composition of competence in team and team compensation. Also I find that team-coaching as a leadership behavior has influence on team process and team performance. Some implications, future research directions, and limitations are discussed.

The Effect of Team Members' Psychological Characteristics and Knowledge Network Characteristics among Team Members on Team Performance (팀 구성원의 심리적 다양성과 구성원 간 지식네트워크 특성이 팀 성과에 미치는 효과: 학습 분위기의 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • This study investigated the factors that facilitate knowledge creation of team with the aspect of knowledge management. We considered two characteristics which are team members' psychological characteristics (achievement needs and conflict emotion) and knowledge network characteristics among team members (internal cohesion and external bridging) and verified the relationship between these characteristics and team performance. Furthermore, we examined whether these characteristics have a different effect on team performance according to the mastery climate. This study performed a survey targeting team members in knowledge based firms and 376 final surveys to be used as a sample in this study. The result showed that team members' psychological characteristics and knowledge network characteristics among Team members have an influence on team performance significantly. In addition, the master climate moderated the relationship between team members' psychological characteristics and team performance.

  • The overall objective of this study is to empirically investigate organizational/managerial factors affecting system development team operation. The contributions of this research project are two-fold. First, this study examined various organizational/managerial factors that made team operation successful. Second, we presented the key success factors among the identified success factors of team operation. A field investigation of 68 system development teams located around YoungNam area indicates that motivation, leadership and egalitarian team culture are success factors of team operation. Especially, key success factors are leadership and egalitarian team culture.

  • This study investigated the effect of small-world structure in team processes on team performance. I discussed the theoretical relationship between small-world structure in team processes and team performance and analyzed the relationship using pass data of soccer teams. I constructed the 128 pass networks from the pass data of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and then measured the structural features indicating small-world structure of the networks. Correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed in order to examine the strength and direction of the relationship. According to the results, the clustering has an exponential relationship with team performance and the connectivity has a log-function relationship with team performance. Finally, I found the positive effect of small-world structure in team processes on team performance. Through theoretical discussion and empirical analysis, this study found that small-world structure in team processes increase team performance by facilitating task coordination and collaboration between team members.
