  • This paper deals with short-term load forecasting. The load model is represented by the state variable form to exploit the Kalman filter technique. The load model is derived from Taylor series expansion and remainder term is considered as noise term. In order to solve recursive filter form, among various algorithm of solving Kalman filter, this paper uses exponential data weighting technique. This paper also deals with the asymptotic stability of filter. Case studies are carried out for the hourly power demand forecasting of the Korea electrical system.

  • The goal of this paper is to apply the multi-step Taylor method to a space truss, a non-linear discrete dynamic system, and analyze the non-linear dynamic response and unstable behavior of the structures. The accurate solution based on an analytical approach is needed to deal with the inverse problem, or the dynamic instability of a space truss, because the governing equation has geometrical non-linearity. Therefore, the governing motion equations of the space truss were formulated by considering non-linearity, where an accurate analytical solution could be obtained using the Taylor method. To verify the accuracy of the applied method, an SDOF model was adopted, and the analysis using the Taylor method was compared with the result of the 4th order Runge-Kutta method. Moreover, the dynamic instability and buckling characteristics of the adopted model under step excitation was investigated. The result of the comparison between the two methods of analysis was well matched, and the investigation shows that the dynamic response and the attractors in the phase space can also delineate dynamic snapping under step excitation, and damping affects the displacement of the truss. The analysis shows that dynamic buckling occurs at approximately 77% and 83% of the static buckling in the undamped and damped systems, respectively.

  • Since the introduction of KTX (Korea Tranin eXpress) in Korea reilway market, number of passengers using KTX has been greatly increased in the market. Thus, demand forecasting for KTX passengers has been played a importantant role in the train operation and management. In this paper, we study several time series models and compare the models based on considering special days and others. We used the MAPE (Mean Absolute Percentage Errors) to compare the performance between the models and we showed that the Reg-AR-GARCH model outperformanced other models in short-term period such as one month. In the longer periods, the Reg-ARMA model showed best forecasting accuracy compared with other models.

  • The synchronous phasor measurement algorithm is the core content of the phasor measurement unit. This manuscript proposes a dynamic synchronous phasor measurement algorithm based on compressed sensing theory. First, a dynamic signal model based on the Taylor series was established. The dynamic power signal was preprocessed using a least mean square error adaptive filter to eliminate interference from noise and harmonic components. A Chirplet overcomplete dictionary was then designed to realize a sparse representation. A reduction of the signal dimension was next achieved using a Gaussian observation matrix. Finally, the improved orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm was used to realize the sparse decomposition of the signal to be detected, the amplitude and phase of the original power signal were estimated according to the best matching atomic parameters, and the total vector error index was used for an error evaluation. Chroma 61511 was used for the output of various signals, the simulation results of which show that the proposed algorithm cannot only effectively filter out interference signals, it also achieves a better dynamic response performance and stability compared with a traditional DFT algorithm and the improved DFT synchronous phasor measurement algorithm, and the phasor measurement accuracy of the signal is greatly improved. In practical applications, the hardware costs of the system can be further reduced.

  • This paper discusses design sensitivity analysis and its application to a structural dynamics modification. Eigenvalue derivatives are determined with respect to the element parameters, which include intrinsic property parameters such as Young's modulus, density of the material, diameter of a beam element, thickness of a plate element, and shape parameters. Derivatives of stiffness and mass matrices are directly calculated by derivatives of element matrices. The first and the second order derivatives of the eigenvalues are then mathematically derived from a dynamic equation of motion of FEM model. The calculation of the second order eigenvalue derivative requires the sensitivity of its corresponding eigenvector, which are developed by Nelson's direct approach. The modified eigenvalue of the structure is then evaluated by the Taylor series expansion with the first and the second derivatives of eigenvalue. Numerical examples for simple beam and plate are presented. First, eigenvalues of the structural system are numerically calculated. Second, the sensitivities of eigenvalues are then evaluated with respect to the element intrinsic parameters. The most effective parameter is determined by comparing sensitivities. Finally, we predict the modified eigenvalue by Taylor series expansion with the derivatives of eigenvalue for single parameter or multi parameters. The examples illustrate the effectiveness of the eigenvalue sensitivity analysis for the optimization of the structures.

  • A digital controller for nonlinear time-delay system is proposed in this paper. A nonlinear time-delay system is discretized by using Taylor's discretization method. And the discretized system can be converted to a general nonlinear system. For this reason, general nonlinear controller synthesis can be applied to the discretized time-delay system. We adopted MAC controller synthesis for this study. Computer simulations are conducted to verify the performance of the proposed method. The results of simulation show good performance of the proposed controller synthesis and the proposed method is useful to control nonlinear time-delay system easily.

  • This paper studies on the relation between linearization methods and controller gains in the looper ILQ(lnverse Linear Quadratic optimal control) system for hot strip finishing mills. Firstly, two linear models arc respectively derived by a linearization method using Taylor's series expansion and a static state feedback linearization method, respectively, and the linear models are compared with the nonlinear model. Secondly, the looper servo controllers are respectively designed on the basis of two linearization models. Finally, the relation between the performances of two ILQ servo controllers and the linearization methods, and the structures and control gains of two controllers are evaluated by a computer simulation.

Using Mach-Zehnder modulator, optical signal is regenerated into CDMA RF signal. Transfer function model of mach-Zehnder modulator is approximated to the third power of the input signal using Taylor series. • The free-model concept is introduced as an alternative intelligent system technique to design a controller with input and output data only. The idea of free model comes from the Taylor series approximation, where an output can be estimated when such data as position, velocity, and acceleration are known. The parameters in the free model can be estimated using the input-output data and a controller can be designed based on the free model. The free model thus developed is shown to be controllable, observable, and robust. The accuracy of the free-model approximation can be improved by increasing the observation window and the order of the free model. The LQR method is applied to the free model to design power system stabilizers ...
