Loading/Unloading task in the real industry is performed by crane, but most of the loading/unloading task with the weight of 5kg∼30kg is done by human workers and this kind of work causes industrial disaster of workers. Therefore it is necessary to develop low cost loading/unloading manipulator system to prevent this kind of industrial accidents. This paper is concerned with the design and fabrication of 2 axis pneumatic manipulators using on/off solenoid valves and accurate position control without respect to the external load and low damping in the pneumatic rotary actuator. To overcome the change of external load, switching of control parameter using LVQNN (Learning Vector Quantization Neural Network) is newly applied, which estimates the external loads in the pneumatic cylinder. As an underlying controller, a state feedback controller using position, velocity and acceleration is applied to the switching control system. The effectiveness of the proposed control algorithms are demonstrated through experiments of pneumatic cylinder with various loads.

This pilot study explored the effect of mental demand on a Web searcher's thoughts, emotions, efforts, and performance in Web searches in order to address whether or not there is any difference between searchers exposed to mental demand manipulation and searchers not exposed. Research data were collected via think-aloud protocol (TAP) with a dual-task in experiments and interviews with 10 subjects who participated in this study. For the searcher's thoughts, relevance judgment was found to be hindered by mental demand. For the searcher's emotions, the experimental group was more frustrated than the control group. With respect to the searcher's efforts, searchers for the experimental group with mental demand manipulation were more likely to spend more time, make fewer queries, and visit fewer pages but work harder to find more relevant information that they needed. Lastly, with regard to the searcher's performance, it is likely that performance was highly dependent upon the completion of the search tasks for both groups. The NASA-TLX six components and cognitive load scores of searchers did not make a significant difference in the outcome. The findings support the use of a dual-task methodology as a promising approach for the assessment of cognitive load induced by complex Web searches.
The purpose of this study is to confirm the impact of noise on subject accomplishment as well as physical/mental load, and evaluates the effects of noise-masking and earplug. 15 college students participate in the test, and the comparison is performed by executing four projects according to conditional categories of noise environments; control condition, noise condition, earplug condition, and noise-masking condition. Noise in the field site of the H manufacturer was used as the noise source, the general job aptitude test which consist of linguistic ability, math ability, perception ability, reasoning ability was used as the task of this project. To estimate physical/mental load evaluation, we used the heart rate R-R interval, Criteria flicker fusion frequency(CFF) and measured NASA-TLX workload for subjective evaluation. As the research outcome, it is shown that there is a meaningful difference for the project task score, dropping rate of CFF, the heart rate, and NASA-TLX subjective evaluation score according to conditions of noise environment. Therefore, the impact of noise on capability of subject accomplishment as well as physical/mental load was confirmed along with the effects of using earplug and noise-masking.

This paper proposes a minimum-power scheduling scheme of real-time parallel tasks while meeting deadlines of the real-time tasks on DVFS-enabled multicore processors. The proposed scheme first finds a floating number of processing cores to each task so that the computation load of all processing cores would be equalized. Next the scheme translates the found floating number of cores into a natural number of cores while maintaining the computation load of all cores unchanged, and allocates the translated natural number of cores to the execution of each task. The scheme is designed to minimize the power consumption of the frequency-sharing multicore processor operating with the same processing speed at an instant time. Evaluation shows that the scheme saves up to 38% power consumption of the previous method.
Recently, a GIS has been applicable to the most important computer applications such as urban information systems and transportation information systems. These applications require spatial operations for an efficient management of a large volume of data. In particular, a spatial join among basic operations has the property that its response time is increased exponentially according to the number of spatial objects included in the operation. Therefore, it is not proper to the systems demanding the fast response time. To satisfy these requirements, the efficient parallel processing of spatial joins has been required. In this paper, the efficient method for creating and allocating tasks to balance statically the load of each processor in a parallel spatial join is presented. A task graph is developed in which a vertex weight is calculated by the cost model I have proposed. Then, it is partitioned through a graph partitioning algorithm. According to the experiments in CC16 parallel machine, our method made an improvement in the static load balance by decreasing the variance of a task execution time on each processor.
Long-term working memory (LTWM) is a subdivision concept of working memory and indicates the enhancement of performance in a working memory task. LTWM has been shown in humans who have been engaged in a specific task requiring working memory over a long time. However, there is very little understanding of the exact mechanism of LTWM because of limitations of experimental methods in human studies. We have modified the standard T-maze task, which is used to test working memory in mice, to demonstrate LTWM in an animal model. We observed an enhancement of performance by repeated experience with the same working memory load in mice, which can be regarded as an LTWM. This effect seems to depend on the condition wherein a delay was given. This task may be a good experimental protocol to assess LTWM in animal studies.
In this paper, we present a new task scheduling scheme ior the efficient execution of the tasks of compound nodes of hierarchical task graph(HTG) on shared memory system. The proposed scheme for exploitation functional parallelism is autoscheduling that performs the role of scheduling by processor itself without any dedicated global scheduler. To adapt the proposed scheduling scheme for various platforms, Including a uni-processor systems, Java threads were used for implementation, and the performance is analyzed in comparison with a conventional bit vector method. The experimental results showed that the proposed method was found to be more efficient in its execution time and exhibited good load-balancing when using the experimental parameter values. Furthermore, the memory size could be reduced when using the proposed algorithm compared with a conventional scheme.

The purpose of this research was to identify expertise in ait traffic control by using cognitive skill analysis for novices and experts in routine and non-routine situations. The result of study was to understand expertise in air traffic control tasks in terms of what cognitive processes are responsible for the expert's high performance levels. The problem solving task was difficult for novices, but performed relatively automatically by experts in a routine situation. The difficulty could indicate the presence of controlled processing. Rather than rules and strategies, novices focused more on environmental factors, which merely increase cognitive load. In a non-routine situation, novices showed that they did not categorize the information consistently and alternative resources were not available for them. Experts, however, performed automatically a task by arranging and organizing information related to problem solving components in contexts without regard to a routine and non-routine situation. Especially experts developed a stable representation and directed alternative resources for air traffic flow and efficiency. Based on the results, cognitive processes of experts could be useful to understand expert performance and analyze the learning process, which imply the necessity of developing expertise systematically.
This study investigated the effect of a load of 15% body weight on trunk, pelvis and hip joint coordination and angle variability in subjects with and without chronic low back pain (CLBP) during an anterior load carriage task. Thirty volunteers participated in the study (15 without CLBP, 15 with CLBP). All participants were asked to perform an anterior carriage task with a load of 15% body weight. The outcome measures included the means and standard deviations for measurements of three-dimensional coordination and angle variability of the trunk, pelvis and hip joint. As CLBP patient group .06, control group .70, the correlation coefficient between the groups showed a significant difference only in trunk-pelvic in the sagittal plane (p<.05). Angle variability of CLBP patient group increased significantly in the trunk in frontal plane, the pelvis in all sagittal plane, frontal plane, transverse plane, and the hip in sagittal plane, the hip in frontal plane than angle variability of control group (p<.05). This results mean that the CLBP patient group showed a disconnected coordination pattern in the trunk-pelvis in the sagittal plane, an increased pelvic angle variability in all three planes, and hip angle variability in the sagittal, and frontal planes. The CLBP patient group may have developed a compensatory movement of the pelvis and hip joint arising from the changed stability due to the abnormal coordination patterns of the trunk-pelvic in the sagittal plane. Therefore, CLBP symptoms can potentially worsen in the pelvis and adjacent hip joint in CLBP patients who perform weight-related behaviors in their daily lives. Further research is needed to determine the three-dimensional characteristics of the electromyography and neuromuscular aspects of subjects with CLBP.

In this study, a new method of fabricated concrete deck bridge construction is proposed. This paper details the method in which concrete multi-girders and fabricated concrete decks are rested on the upper flange of the girder and the female to female type sheat-key is formed to connect girder and deck. The finite element analysis is performed to verify the accuracy of the structural behaviors of the fabricated concrete deck bridge by comparing with experimental results. The first task performed is the analysis of the equilibrium of the member force occurring between the deck and the girder. After verifying equilibrium of the member force determined by the finite element analysis, this process is applied to the analysis of maximum member force as the position of design load. This task is utilized to determine the safety of each member according to the same scale finite element model. The final process in this study is to compare the deflection of girders used in experiment with that of the same scale finite element model to verify the strength of fabricated cincrete deck bridge. By this comparison, it is shown that the behavior of the fabricated concrete deck bridge is almost same as the finite element analysis. The second task is to analyze the load distribution effect according to the number of diaphragms and the composite effect due to the cinnection of the deck and girder by the finite element analysis. From the results of second task, it is found that the load distribution effect is not related to the number of diaphragms in case of the central loading, but is related to the number of diaphragms for eccentric loading. Analysis of the load distribution indicates that the effective number of diaphragm is three. It is also shown that the maximum deflection is decreased to almost one half due to the composite action of the deck and girder.
