  • In this study, anti-tarnishing and corrosion characteristics of a single 𝛽1' and Bangjja Yugi alloy in the Cl- ion environment before and after potentiostatic electrolysis treatment were compared. Stable and uniform SnO2 oxide film with several nanometer thickness is formed after potentiostatic electrolysis treatment. In the case of Bangjja Yugi prior to potentiostatic electrolysis (PE) treatment for exposure in Cl- environment, tarnishing occurs rapidly within 0.5hr, whereas PE treated Bangjja Yugi indicates stable surface without tarnishing up to 3hr. Especially, it is noticeable that anti-tarnishing and corrosion characteristic of PE treated single 𝛽1', which were significantly improved by 3 times and 15 times, respectively, compared to conventional Bangja Yugi.

  • Even though the tarnishing and corrosion problems characteristic with dental silver-palladium alloy are not yet fully solved, it is recently widely used because of its low cost. However the effects of major alloying elements on the various properties of this system are not fully understood. The object of this research is to clarify the effects of In and Zn additives on the corrosion and tarnishing resistances and precipitation hardening behavior of this sytem, using electrodynamic polarization, immersion, and Vicker's microhardness test and X-ray diffraction and electron probe micro analysis methods. The obtained results were as follows: I. As indium content is increased, both the corrosion resistance in Cl-solution and microhardness are also increased while the tarnishing resistance is decreased. 2. As Zinc content is increased, the corrosion resistance is decreased, but tarnishing resistance is increased 3. At 70Ag-25Pd-2.5Zn-2.5In composition, the precipitation harding behavior was mot significant. The optimum aging temperature was $450^{\circ}C$ and the time was 2 hrs. The resulting specimen of this work carried 180VHN. 4. Under the heat treatment, the changes in the mechanical property are due to the changes in the shape and composition of dendrite matrix, namely, it is because of the precipitation hardening behavior which has been proved by electron probe micro analysis and optical microscopic finding.

  • The effects of sub-ppm levels of $H_2S$ and the adsorbed water on the atmospheric corrosion of silver were studied with In situ weight balance to study the effect of the adsorbed water on the kinetic behavior and to determine the rate-controlling step, with XPS to analyze the tarnish film, and with calculation of phase equilibrium to predict the stable solid phase, the concentrations of dissolved species ($Ag^-$, $H^+$, $S^{2-}$, $HS^-$) and the equilibrium potentials ($E_{Ag^+/Ag}$, $E_{H^+/H_2}$, $E_{O_2/O^{2-}$). The results of weight measurements showed that oxygen was required for the sulfidation of silver in 100 ppb $H_2S$ and humidified environments enhanced the tarnished rate and oxidizing power. In addition, the rate determining step for tarnishing silver was shown to be changed to transport though the tarnish film.

  • Global(mega) event has increased throughout the 1990s, with the biggest surge occurring in the Asia-Pacific region. Along with this upward trend, competition for more desirable tourists is also surging, so destinations cannot be complacent (Getz, 1997). Event is appearing as the powerful method in the fierce competition around the industry. International events like 99 Hanam Environment Expo have been held annually in Korea since 1991 in which the local government system started. The main roles of event are to enhance the image of communities and attract tourists (Kotler and Haider and Rein, 1993), to strengthen destination attractiveness as drawing power (Mill and Morrison, 1985), and so on. Focused on the destination image, the research (Sirakaya and Sheppard and McLellan, 1997) about the effect of perceived safety at a potential vacation destination showed that destination marketers, travel agents, and hospitality industry members should be concerned with improving their images when such images are negative with regard to safety. Event industry in Korea does not seriously recognize the importance of the safety management against accidents known for tarnishing the destination images. Moreover few safety standards or studies for event industry can be found. This paper investigated the safety factors considered by visitors of 99 Hanam Environment Expo and analyzed the correlation between the safety factors and the demographic characteristics of the visitors.

  • The mechanical, anti-tarnishing, and corrosion characteristics of Yuggi (Cu-22wt%Sn) alloy are greatly affected by fraction of constituent phases according to heat treatment method. The Yuggi heat-treated at 750℃ has a β1' phase of 98% or more, which is a high-temperature disordered beta phase, on the other hand, cast Yuggi that Sn is solid-solutioned into Cu consists with α-phase over 60v/o. This difference of constituent phases of Yuggi may cause a difference in dissolution of Cu under antimicrobial test condition. Nonetheless, few studies have been conducted on the effect of fraction of constituent phases and constituent phases in antimicrobial activity. In addition, few studies have also been conducted on the suitable method measuring the antimicrobial activity of Yuggi. Hence, the purpose of this study is to provide an optimum measurement method of antimicrobial activity, and to evaluate quantitatively the effect of constituent phases on antimicrobial activity.
