Fabrication of Alloy Target for Formation of Ti-Al-Si-N Composite Thin Film and Their Mechanical Properties (Ti-Al-Si-N 박막 제작을 위한 합금 타겟 제조 및 박막의 기계적 특성)

  • Prevailing dissemination of machine tools and cutting technology have caused drastic developments of high speed dry machining with work materials of high hardness, and demands on the high-hardness-materials with high efficiency have become increasingly important in terms of productivity, cost reduction, as well as environment-friendly issue. Addition of Si to TiAlN has been known to form nano-composite coating with higher hardness of over 30 GPa and oxidation temperature over $1,000^{\circ}C$. However, it is not easy to add Si to TiAlN by using conventional PVD technologies. Therefore, Ti-Al-Si-N have been prepared by hybrid process of PVD with multiple target sources or PVD combined with PECVD of Si source gas. In this study, a single composite target of Ti-Al-Si was prepared by powder metallurgy of MA (mechanical alloying) and SPS (spark plasma sintering). Properties of he resulting alloying targets were examined. They revealed a microstructure with micro-sized grain of about $1{\sim}5{\mu}m$, and all the elements were distributed homogeneously in the alloying target. Hardness of the Ti-Al-Si-N target was about 1,127 Hv. Thin films of Ti-Al-Si-N were prepared by unbalanced magnetron sputtering method by using the home-made Ti-Al-Si alloying target. Composition of the resulting thin film of Ti-Al-Si-N was almost the same with that of the target. The thin film of Ti-Al-Si-N showed a hardness of 35 GPa and friction coefficient of 0.66.

Optimization of target, moderator, and collimator in the accelerator-based boron neutron capture therapy system: A Monte Carlo study

  • The aim of this study was to optimize the target, moderator, and collimator (TMC) in a neutron beam generator for the accelerator-based BNCT (A-BNCT) system. The optimization employed the Monte Carlo Neutron and Photon (MCNP) simulation. The optimal geometry for the target was decided as the one with the highest neutron flux among nominates, which were called as angled, rib, and tube in this study. The moderator was optimized in terms of consisting material to produce appropriate neutron energy distribution for the treatment. The optimization of the collimator, which wrapped around the target, was carried out by deciding the material to effectively prevent the leakage radiations. As results, characteristic of the neutron beam from the optimized TMC was compared to the recommendation by the International Atomic Energy Agent (IAEA). The tube type target showed the highest neutron flux among nominates. The optimal material for the moderator and collimator were combination of Fluental (Al203+AlF3) with 60Ni filter and lead, respectively. The optimized TMC satisfied the IAEA recommendations such as the minimum production rate of epithermal neutrons from thermal neutrons: that was 2.5 times higher. The results can be used as source terms for shielding designs of treatment rooms.

  • ITO에 사용되는 주된 재료인 인듐의 bixbyite 구조는 TCOs의 전기적 특성에서 매우 중요한 것으로 알려져 있다. 때문에 인듐의 Bixbyite구조를 유지하면서 인듐의 사용량을 줄이기 위해 최적의 Solubility limit에 관해 연구하였다. 이를 위해 In2O3-ZnO-SnO2의 삼성분계 기본 조성에 두가지 물질을 추가로 첨가하여 첨가량에 따른 Solubility limit을 연구하였다. Solubility limit의 측정을 위해 X-ray Diffractometer(XRD)를 사용하였으며, 첨가 원소의 양이 증가할수록 TCOs target의 Latice parameter값은 작아졌다, SEM을 통한 미세구조의 관찰로 원소첨가에 따른 샘플의 소결에너지 변화를 분석할 수 있었다. 제작된 시편의 정성분석 및 Chemical binding Energy를 측정하기 위해 X-ray Photo Spectroscopy (XPS)를 이용하였으며, 전기적인 특성 측정을위해 4-Point prove mesurement 방법을 사용하였다.

Characteristic of Al-In-Sn-ZnO Thin Film Prepared by FTS System with Hetero Targets

  • In order to improve efficiency and make a new material thin film, we prepared the Al-In-Sn-ZnO thin film on a glass substrate at room temperature using a Facing Target Sputtering (FTS) system. The FTS system was designed to array two targets that face each other. Two different kinds of targets were installed on the FTS system. We used an ITO ($In_2O_3$ 90wt%, $SnO_2$ 10wt%) target and an AZO (ZnO 98wt%, $Al_2O_3$ 2wt%) target. The AIZTO films were deposited using different applied powers to the targets. The as-deposited AIZTO thin films were investigated using a UV/VIS spectrometer, an X-ray diffratometer (XRD), and Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX).

Inverted-U curve for material consumption of China industrial system: a new implication from environmental regulation

  • We review the research literature on relationship between environmental regulation and industrial development in three aspects of environmental regulation and investment, environmental regulation and efficiency, environmental regulation and trade. Indeed, the linkage between environmental regulation and material consumption of industrial system is absent. Environmental regulation is measured as the expenditure share for industrial pollutants abatement, and effluent charge intensity. Using panel-level data from 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China, we build correlation models between material consumption and environmental regulation, results show that: (1) there are significant quadratic function relationship between material consumption and environmental regulation. And there is the fact that inflection point exists. (2) On basis of inflection points, we make two remarkable reflections. Firstly, the inflection points are the most important scale to judge reasonability and performance of regulations. Secondly, a Pareto improvement may occur when the regulations achieve a certain target. (3) Both intensities of industrial pollutants abatement expenditure and effluent charge have not yet achieved the expected target in most regions of mainland China at present. And most of regions of material consumption decreasing are distributed in western China. Main reasons lie in the impacts of industrial features as well as the regulations.

Electrical Properties of ITO Thin Film Deposited by Reactive DC Magnetron Sputtering using Various Sn Concentration Target (반응성 DC 마그네트론 스퍼터링법으로 증착한 ITO 박막의 전기적 특성 평가)

  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films (30 nm) were deposited on PET substrate by reactive DC magnetron sputtering using In/Sn(2, 5 wt.%) metal alloy target without intentionally substrate heating during the deposition under different DC powers of 70 ~ 110 W. The electrical properties were estimated by Hall-effect measurements system. The resistivity of ITO thin film deposited using In/Sn (5 wt.%) metal alloy target at low DC power increased with increasing annealing time. However, they increased with increasing annealing time at high DC power. In the case of ITO (Sn 2 wt%), we can't find clear change in resistivity with increasing annealing time. However, carrier density and mobility showed difference behavior due to change of oxygen vacancy.

Exploring the Optimal Stealth Material Emissivity for Infrared Camouflage across Diverse Temperature Surface Backgrounds (다양한 온도의 지표 배경에서 적외선 위장을 위한 최적의 스텔스 물질 방사율 탐구)

  • Modern infrared-guided weapons detect and destroy targets by seeking and tracking the infrared radiation emitted by the target. By covering the target with a material that has low infrared emissivity, the infrared signal can be reduced to evade tracking. However, this method is effective only when the target is hotter than the background. Since the temperature of the background varies significantly between day and night, target signals with low emissivity at night can be captured by the optical systems of guided weapons due to signal contrast, as they are smaller than the background signals. In this study, the optimal emissivity for implementing infrared stealth for ground targets is calculated based on the temperature and emissivity of the background, as well as the temperature of the target. The size of the signal received by the optical systems of guided weapons, the contrast value of the image, and the lock-on range were calculated for target signals that vary depending on the emissivity of the target. The effectiveness of the optimal emissivity was demonstrated by thermal imaging computer simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics software.

Preparation of damage-less SnO$_{2}$ thin films by RF magnetron sputtering with oxide target (산화물 target의 RF마그네트론 스파터링에 의한 비손상 SnO$_{2}$박막의 제조)

  • RF마그네트론 스파터링에 의한 $sSnO_2$ 박막을 증착한 결과 작동조건에 따라 표면에서 막손상이 발생하였는데, 이는 target에서 생성된 높은 에너지의 고속입자가 기판에서 직접 충돌로 일어나며, 마그네트론의 자계분포와도 관계된다. 또한 기판의 위치에 따라 박막의 전기적, 구조적 특성이 급격히 변하는데 본 논문은 중심자석의 세기와 RF power, 가스압력, 그리고 기판온도 등의 스파터링 작동조건을 변화시키면서 박막의 비손상을 검토하였고, 물성특성을 평가하였다. 실험결과로 부터 기판의 외축부에서 제작된 박막은 전반적으로 막손상이 없었고, 특히 target의 중심자석을 Cobalt로 설치하고 15 mTorr의 가스압력과 50 W의 RF power로 한 경우 가장 우수한 특성을 가진 박막을 얻을 수 있었다. 추가로 막손상을 방지하고자, 환원형의 masking glass를 target위에 설치하였는데, 고에너지 입자의 직접 충돌을 확실히 차단할 수 있었으며, 비저항율도 target의 부식부위 (erosion)에 대응하는 부분에서 100배 정도로 개선하였다.

  • Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) code FLUENT[11 was used to simulate the thermal hydraulic processes occuring in conceptual design of the accelerator-driven subcritical reactor(ADSR) liquid lead target. The purpose of the analysis is to investigate the thermal hydraulic characteristics of liquid lead as ADSR target material with various target geometries and injection locations of proton beam. In the calculation analysis, the local temperature of the liquid lead target rises to the boiling temperature very rapidly When the proton beam is injected from the bottom of the target system, the duration time to reach the boiling temperature is longer and the temperature distribution is flatter than other cases.

Small Target Detecting and Tracking Using Mean Shifter Guided Kalman Filter

  • Because of the importance of small target detection in infrared images, many studies have been carried out in this area. Using a Kalman filter and mean shift algorithm, this study proposes an algorithm to track multiple small moving targets even in cases of target disappearance and appearance in serial infrared images in an environment with many noises. Difference images, which highlight the background images estimated with a background estimation filter from the original images, have a relatively very bright value, which becomes a candidate target area. Multiple target tracking consists of a Kalman filter section (target position prediction) and candidate target classification section (target selection). The system removes error detection from the detection results of candidate targets in still images and associates targets in serial images. The final target detection locations were revised with the mean shift algorithm to have comparatively low tracking location errors and allow for continuous tracking with standard model updating. In the experiment with actual marine infrared serial images, the proposed system was compared with the Kalman filter method and mean shift algorithm. As a result, the proposed system recorded the lowest tracking location errors and ensured stable tracking with no tracking location diffusion.
