  • Among the themes for CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility), consumer issues include protecting the health and safety of consumers who purchase and use the products. In particular, ensuring product safety is a major theme of consumer issues for corporate social responsibility. Currently, the government implements the Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act for product safety management and selects products that may harmful to consumers as safety control items, and manages the products by designating them as 4 types of safety certification, safety confirmation, supplier conformity verification, and safety standard compliance. In this paper, we propose management plans for the establishment of a more reasonable classification type of safety management target for 48 items of consumer products to be controlled by the act, and confirm the validity of the plan. First, we perform cluster analysis using data for CISS (Consumer Injury Surveillance System) to derive a new classification type of the safety management target. Next, we compare the results of the cluster analysis with the classification type of the act and the existing scenario classification method RAS (Risk Assessment by Scenario) and the causal network method RAMP (Risk Assessment Method based on Probability). Based on these results, we propose two new plans of safety management target classification and verify its validity.

  • The detection of target echoes in a sonar image is usually difficult since reverberation is originated by the returns reflected around the boundary and volumes. Under the scenario of the target presence around the reverberation, the detection performance of existing algorithms is degraded. Since they have a similar statistical features. But proposed detector gives improvement existing algorithms Under this scenario. In this paper, 4 segmentation contrast box algorithm using maximum contrast value is proposed based on statistical segmentation, which gives better detection performance in the sense of reducing false alarms. The simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • By integrating the eye head-position monitioring devices, the present authors developed an eye-controlled human/computer interface based on the line-of-sight and an intentional blink to invoke commands. Also modified was an existing calibration method to reduce the visual angle between the target center and the intersection point of the derived line-of-sight. This modified calibration method allowed 108 or more command blocks to be displayed on the 14 inch monitor with the target acquisition probability(hit rate) of 98% when viewed at the distance of 500 mm apart. An active triggering method using an intentional blink was proposed and was shown to be a feasible and efficient alternative to invoke commands with total triggering time of 0.8 sec or less. The system could be used by the normal people as well as the handicapped individuals as a new human/computer interface.

  • This study aims to present a method to evaluate the relative risk of failure due to liquefaction of domestic small to medium-sized earthfill dams with a height of less than 15 m, which has little information on geotechnical properties. Based on the results of previous researches, a series of methods and procedures for estimating the probability of dam failure due to liquefaction, which calculates the probability of liquefaction occurrence of the dam body, the amount of settlement at the dam crest according to the estimation of the residual strength of the dam after liquefaction, the overtopping depth determined from the amount of settlement at the dam crest, and the probability of failure of the dam due to overtopping was explicitly presented. To this end, representative properties essential for estimating the probability of failure due to the liquefaction of small to medium-sized earthfill dams were presented. Since it is almost impossible to directly determine these representative properties for each of the target dams because it is almost impossible to obtain geotechnical property information, they were estimated and determined from the results of field and laboratory tests conducted on existing small to medium-sized earthfill dams in previous researches. The method and procedure presented in this study were applied to 12 earthfill dams on a trial basis, and the liquefaction failure probability was calculated. The analysis of the calculation results confirmed that the representative properties were reasonable and that the overall evaluation procedure and method were effective.

  • Improving tracking performance by estimating the status of multiple targets using radar is important. In a clutter environment, a joint event occurs between the track and measurement in multiple target tracking using a tracking filter. As the number increases, the joint event increases exponentially. The problem to be considered when multiple target tracking filter design in such environments is that first, the tracking filter minimizes the rate of false track alarmsby eliminating the false track and quickly confirming the target track. The purpose is to increase the FTD performance. The second consideration is to improve the track maintenance performance by allocating each measurement to a track efficiently when an event occurs. Through two considerations, a single target tracking data association technique is extended to a multiple target tracking filter, and representative algorithms are JIPDAF and LM-IPDAF. In this study, a probabilistic evaluation of many hypotheses in the assignment of measurements was not performed, so that the computation amount does not increase nonlinearly according to the number of measurements and tracks, and the track existence probability based on the track density The LM-IPDAF algorithm was introduced. This paper also proposes a method to reduce the computational complexity by improving the clutter density estimation method for calculating the track existence probability of LM-IPDAF. The performance was verified by a comparison with the existing algorithm through simulation. As a result, it was possible to reduce the simulation processing time by approximately 20% while achieving equivalent performance on the position RMSE and Confirmed True Track.

  • Most breakwater armor blocks are designed by using Hudson's or van der Meer's formula. The minimum weight of armor blocks is calculated by equating the resistance to the load in each formula. The larger value is then chosen as the design weight. In this study, we have performed reliability analyses for thus designed breakwater armor blocks of 12 trade harbors and 8 coastal harbors in Korea. The probability of failure calculated by the reliability analysis provides a criterion for evaluating the stability of armor blocks. The calculated probability of failure was almost same for all the breakwaters so that we were able to quantitatively evaluate the safety level of armor blocks of existing breakwaters. We also found that the safety factor used in the deterministic design method and the probability of failure in the reliability design method show a linear relationship. Therefore the probability of failure of existing breakwaters can be quantitatively calculated from the safety factors. The calculated probability of failure could also be used for determining the target probability of failure in the future.

  • This paper deals with an optimal Weapon-Target Assignment (WTA) algorithm for Closed-In Weapon Systems (CIWS), considering variable burst time. In this study, the WTA problem for CIWS is formulated based on Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP). Unlike the previous study assuming that the burst time is fixed regardless of the engagement range, the proposed method utilizes the variable burst time based on the kill probability according to the engagement range. Thus, the proposed method can reflect a more realistic engagement situation and reduce the reaction time of CIWS against targets, compared to the existing method. In this paper, we first reformulate the existing MILP-based WTA problem to accommodate the variable burst Time. The proposed method is then validated through numerical simulations with the help of a commercial optimization tool.

  • JPDAF is a method of updating target's state estimation by using posterior probability that measurements are originated from existing target in multi-target tracking. In this paper, we propose a multi-target tracking algorithm for falling cluster bombs separated from a mother bomb based on JPDAS method which is obtained by applying fixed-interval smoothing technique to JPDAF. The performance of JPDAF and JPDAS multi-target tracking algorithm is compared by observing the average of the difference between targets' state estimations obtained from 100 independent executions of two algorithms and targets' true states. Based on this, results of simulations for a radar tracking problem that show proposed JPDAS has better tracking performance than JPDAF is presented.

  • Using the existing algorithms that estimate the background noise, the detection probability for the week tonals is low and for the even week tonals, there is a limit not detected. Therefore it is required to algorithms which can improve the performance of the tonal extraction. Recently, many researches using artificial neural networks in sonar signal processing are performed. We propose a neural network with double feedback that can remove automatically the background noise and detect the even week tonals buried in background noise, therefore not detected by growing the week tonals lastingly for a certain time. For the real underwater target, experiments for the tonal extraction are performed by using the existing algorithms that estimate the background noise and the proposed neural network. As a result of the experiment, a method using the proposed neural network showed the better performance of the tonal extraction in comparison with the existing algorithms.

  • The new methodologies to derive discharge limits considering operational flexibility according to international safety standards were developed to help reduce the environmental releases of radioactive effluents from nuclear power plants (NPPs). To overcome the limitations of the two existing methods to set up discharge limits assuming a specific statistical distribution of the effluent discharge, two modified equations were newly proposed to directly derive a particular discharge limits corresponding to the target 'compliance probability' based on the actual annual discharge data for a specific NPP and radionuclide groups. By applying these to the actual yearly discharge data of 14 Korean NPPs for 7 radionuclide groups for the past 20 years, the applicability of two new methodologies to actual cases was demonstrated. The 'characteristic value' with approximately a 90% compliance probability for each Korean NPP and radionuclide group was proposed based on the results. The new approaches for setting up the discharge limits and the characteristic values developed in this study are expected to be effectively utilized to foster operator's efforts to progressively reduce the environmental releases of radioactive effluents of NPPs relative to the previous discharge data considering operational flexibilities.
