  • A functionally graded material was produced by laminating green tapes. The lamination resulted in the formation of functionally graded structure and sintering of the materials resulted of FGM. This results demonstrated a possibility of using green tapes in the processing of functionally graded materials.

  • In this study, the photolithography process was chosen to reduce the aspect ratio of the cross-section of a high-temperature superconducting (HTS) tape by dividing the superconducting layer of the tape. Reducing the aspect ratio decreases the magnetization losses in the second-generation HTS tapes generated by AC magnetic fields. The HTS tape used in the experiment has a thin silver (Ag) layer of about 2 ㎛ on top of the REBCO superconducting layer and no additional stabilizer layer. A dry film resist (DFR) was laminated on top of the HTS tape by a lamination method for the segmentation. Exposure to a 395 nm UV lamp on a patterned mask cures the DFR. Dipping with a 1% Na2CO3 solution was followed to develop the uncured film side and to obtain the required pattern. The silver and superconducting layers of the REBCO films were cleaned with an acid solution after the etching. Finally, the segmented HTS tape was completed by stripping the DFR film with acetone.

  • For mechanical and electrical stability and environment protection. Cu and stainless steel stabilizers are laminated to a Ag layer to produce a composite neutral-axis(N-A) architecture in which the YBCO layer is centered between the oxide buffered metallic substrate and stabilizer strip lamination. This architecture allows the wire to meet operational requirements including stresses at cryogenic temperature. winding tensions as well as mechanical bending requirements including thermal and electrical stability under fault current conditions. We have experimentally studied mechanical properties of the laminated stainless steel and Cu stabilizers on YBCO coated conductors. We have laminated YBCO coated conductors by continuous dipping soldering process. We have investigated lamination interface between solder and stabilizer of the YBCO coated conductor. We evaluated bonding properties. tensile / shear bonding strength. and peeling strength laminated YBCO coated conductors.

  • Using the photoimageable thick film conductors, $25\mu\textrm{m}$ line widths and $25\mu\textrm{m}$ spaces can be obtained. Test patterns are made by green tape lamination, paste printing, exposing to UV light, developing in an aqueous process and cofiring. Postfiring method using alumina substrate can be also applied to fine line formation. Series gap resonator formed by photopatterning process showed the improved signal transmission characteristics compared to that obtained by conventional screen printing.

  • Here we present the comparative experimental study of the stability of the superconducting state in 4 mm YBCO tapes with copper lamination against local heat disturbances at 77 K. The samples are either directly cooled by immersing a bare YBCO tape into a liquid nitrogen pool or operate in nearly-adiabatic conditions when the tape is covered by a 0.6 mm layer of Kapton insulation. Main quench characteristics, i.e. minimum quench energies (MQEs) and normal zone propagation (NZP) velocities for both samples are measured and compared. Minimum NZP currents are determined by a low ohmic resistor technique eligible for obtaining V - I curves with a negative differential resistance. The region of transport currents satisfying the stationary stability criterion is found for the different cooling conditions. Finally, we use the critical temperature margin as a universal scaling parameter to compare the MQEs obtained in this work for YBCO tapes at 77 K with those taken from literature for low-temperature superconductors in vacuum at 4.2 K, as well as for MgB2 wires cooled with a cryocooler down to 20 K.

  • Cylindrical laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is produced by winding the veneer tape on a circular cylinder. The veneer tape was produced by cutting the veneer into a rectangular shape and sewing it in a vertical direction to the fiber. The tensile strength test was carried out by producing the veneer tape specimen with different species of veneer, types and combinations of sewing yarn. The Radiata pine veneer tape produced with three sewing lines using the reinforced sewing thread had the best tensile strength. Also, the separation and snapping problems of the veneer tape were improved, resulting in the improvement in the workability of cylindrical LVL. The bending strength of various cylindrical LVL produced with different types of veneer tape and a different number of lamination layers and the application of reinforcement with glass fiber cloth was compared with that of Larix log. Bending MOR of cylindrical LVL reinforced with glass fiber cloth at the volume ratio of 11% was improved by 65% in comparison to the non-reinforced cylindrical LVL. In the case of the cylindrical LVL produced with 2 sewing lines of veneer tape, a fracture occurred at the butt joint between the veneer tapes. However, in the case of the cylindrical LVL produced with 3 sewing lines of veneer tape a fracture occurred in the fiber direction.

  • The mechanical properties of REBCO coated conductor (CC) tapes under uniaxial tension are mainly determined by the thick layer Components like the substrate and the stabilizer. Depending on the applications of the CC tapes, it is also needed to externally reinforce thin metallic foils to one side or both sides of the CC tapes. This study investigated the effect of additional stabilizer layers or lamination on the electrical resistivity and electromechanical properties in RCE-DR processed GdBCO CC tapes with different structures. The strain/stress tolerance of Ic in differently processed 12 mm-wide REBCO CC tapes under uniaxial tension at 77 K and self-field could be determined by the loading-unloading scheme. As a result, Sn-Cu stabilized CC tape showed a significant decrease in mechanical properties due to its soft but thick stabilizing layer. However, similar electromechanical properties have been observed on both Sn-Cu and Sn-stabilized CC tapes, the Ic degradation behavior was independent of whether the CC tape has an external reinforcement or different stabilizing layers.
