This paper is concerned about the hybrid tandem configuration as the design of the automated guided vehicle system(AGVs). The hybrid tandem configuration is that the manufacturing system is divided into several non-overlapping zones, workstations of each zone are linked by network configuration including loop. That is, the manufacturing system is divided into several non-overlapping small size networks, and at most two automated guided vehicles can be available in each network. The transit point is located at proper point between adjacent networks. The parts are transported to workstations in other network through the transit points. One of the objective functions in dividing into the hybrid tandem configuration is to minimize the maximum travel time of the divided networks, and other is to minimize the total travel distance of parts moved to workstations in other networks for the next processing. The model formulation is presented, and a numerical example is shown. Also, the performances of system for the hybrid tandem, tandem and network configuration are compared through the simulation. The results of this research will contribute to the development of material handling systems in the manufacturing system. Also, it will be applied in determining the transportation area of transportation vehicles and the number and size of the transportation fleet in the transportation problem of logistics management.
In this paper, the modeling capabilities of an object-oriented simulator, AgvTalk is demonstrated by designing and simulating a conceptually configuration of AGV systems, known as the tandem configuration. The characteristics and design methodology in AgvTalk are described between the tandem configuration for AGV systems and conventional AGV systems. Also, simulation between the conventional AGV system and its corresponding tandem AGV system are compared with AgvTalk in the job shop environment. From the simulation results, the characteristics of each system observed are discussed.

This paper concerns the location of the transit point between adjacent loops and guide direction of loops in the tandem configuration manufacturing system. The tandem configuration has been used to solve control problems like the vehicle dispatching and traffic control. The transit point between loops needs to deliver the parts from one loop to another. The location of transit point between adjacent loops and direction of loops must be determined to minimize the total travel time of parts in the manufacturing system. The model formulation is developed, a numerical example is shown.

Tandem or multijunction solar cells (MJSCs) can convert sunlight into electricity with higher efficiency (η) than single junction solar cells (SJSCs) by dividing the solar irradiance over sub-cells having distinct bandgaps. The efficiencies of various common SJSC materials are close to the edge of their theoretical efficiency and hence there is a tremendous growing interest in utilizing the tandem/multijunction technique. Recently, III-V materials integration on a silicon substrate has been broadly investigated in the development of III-V on Si tandem solar cells. Numerous growth techniques such as heteroepitaxial growth, wafer bonding, and mechanical stacking are crucial for better understanding of high-quality III-V epitaxial layers on Si. As the choice of growth method and substrate selection can significantly impact the quality and performance of the resulting tandem cell and the terminal configuration exhibit a vital role in the overall proficiency. Parallel and Series-connected configurations have been studied, each with its advantage and disadvantages depending on the application and cell configuration. The optimization of both growth mechanisms and terminal configurations is necessary to further improve efficiency and lessen the cost of III-V on Si tandem solar cells. In this review article, we present an overview of the growth mechanisms and terminal configurations with the areas of research that are crucial for the commercialization of III-V on Si tandem solar cells.
An object-oriented simulation modeling environment, AgvTalk, is presented to provide flexible modeling capabilities for simulation of many alternative AGV systems. The hierarchical features and modularity of AgvTalk create possibilities for the extension and reuse of simulation object components. Also, detailed behavior of each object in the AGV system can be modeled easily and exactly in AgvTalk because there are no limiting modeling constructs. The modeling capabilities of AgvTalk is demonstrated by designing and simulating a conceptually different configuration of AGV systems, known as, the tandem configuration. Between the tandem and conventional AGV systems, the characteristics and design methodology in AgvTalk are described. Also, simulations between two systems are compared with AgvTalk in the job shop environment.
This study was trying to focus on achieving high efficiency of multi junction solar cell with thin film silicon solar cells. The proposed thin film Si-Ge/c-Si tandem junction solar cell concept with a combination of low-cost thin-film silicon solar cell technology and high-efficiency c-Si cells in a monolithically stacked configuration. The tandem junction solar cells using amorphous silicon germanium (a-SiGe:H) as an absorption layer of upper sub-cell were simulated through ASA (Advanced Semiconductor Analysis) simulator for acquiring the optimum structure. Graded Ge composition - effect of Eg profiling and inserted buffer layer between absorption layer and doped layer showed the improved current density (Jsc) and conversion efficiency (η). 13.11% conversion efficiency of the tandem junction solar cell was observed, which is a result of showing the possibility of thin film Si-Ge/c-Si tandem junction solar cell.

When a bubble reaches a free surface, a bursting of the bubble produces a high speed jet. Despite its practical importance, significant effort has been devoted to investigate a bursting jet by a single bubble near a free surface. In the present study, we perform numerical simulations of bubbles in a tandem arrangement at Bo=0.05. The configuration of the tandem bubbles is systematically varied by changing a radius of a following bubble (RF) and the gap distance between two bubbles (L). Compared to a single bubble case, we show that the bursting bubble in the tandem arrangement accelerates, and the jet velocity increases. Moreover, we find that a critical gap distance at which the jet velocity unexpectedly changes exists in the tandem case.

Armed helicopter is an integral part of armed forces, which conducts vital missions, such as anti-armor attack, close air support, escorting air assault operations, and reconnaissance. A typical cockpit arrangement of armed helicopters has been a tandem configuration. This is to reduce the frontal area, which in turn increases the forward speed as well as reduces the chance of being hit by enemy fires. However, many armed helicopters in the world are now being developed as a side-by-side configuration. Such configuration is quite different from the conventional cockpit arrangement in light of the crew communications and situational awareness. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to find the optimized combination of mission tasks among pilots in a side-by-side configuration cockpit by measuring the workload using the NASA Task Load Index method. The experimental results indicate that the workload of crew members differ as disparate tasks are being performed.
The performance of a centrifugal compressor composed of an impeller, tandem diffuser rows and axial guide vanes has been predicted numerically and compared with available experimental results on its design rotational speed. The pitchwise-averaged mixing plane method was employed for the boundaries between rotor and stator to obtain steady state solutions. The overall characteristics showed differently according to the relative positions of tandem diffuser rows while the characteristics of impeller showed almost identical. The numerical results agree with the measured data in respect of their tendency. It turned out that 0% of relative positions is the worst case in terms of static pressure recovery and efficiency. According to the experimental results, some pressure fluctuations and malfunction of the compressor were observed for 75% case. However, this numerical calculation using mixing plane method did not capture any of those phenomena. Thus, unsteady flow calculation should be performed to investigate the stability of the compressor caused by different diffuser configuration.
We first describe an approximation method for fitting a k-state MMBP to the departure process of a D-BMAP/Geo/1/K queue. The fitting model is them used in a simple decomposition algorithm to analyze a tandem configuration of finite capacity queue with cell loss.
