Synthesis and $BK_{ca}$-channel Opening Activity of Substituted l0-H-Benzo[4-5]furo[3,2-b]indole-carboxylic acids

  • Large-conductance $Ca^{2+}$ activated potassium channels $(BK_{ca})$ are widely distributed and play key roles in various cell functions. In nerve cells, B $K_{ca}$ channels shorten the duration of action potentials and block $Ca^{2+}$ entry thereby repolarizing excitable cells after excitation. $(BK_{ca})$ channel opening has been postulated to confer neuroprotection during stroke and has attracted attention as a means for therapeutic intervention in asthma, hypertension, convulsion, and traumatic brain injury.   • One way for phatic communication to be linguistically realized involves ritual activities, such as greetings and leave-takings. These conventionalized acts in medical contexts can significantly influence both transactional and interpersonal goals. The analysis in this paper confirms that exchanging rituals such as greeting and leave-taking between doctors and patients is not a simple exchange of conventionalized linguistic symbols. In addition, the use of discursive strategies means that to determine whether an expression is phatic or not, it is necessary to analyze it from the multidimensional perspective. The phaticity is established based on the negotiation between the participants during the interaction. We have found that the interrogative form of greeting like "¿Qué tal?" (How are you?) becomes a versatile resource in the medical context. Thus, professionals need to be attentive to the discourse progress, because the phaticity of the interrogative greetings (illocutionary force) is linked, in the vast majority, with the reaction of the patients. Also, the data confirms that when participants coordinate closings, the exchange of turns lengthens and the intervention of various discursive strategies for phatic communion becomes more prominent.

  • This paper presents an arificial neuro-fuzzy technique based prtial discharge (PD) pattern classifier to power system application. This may require a complicated analysis method employ -ing an experts system due to very complex progressing discharge form under exter-nal stress. After referring briefly to the developments of artificical neural network based PD measurements, the paper outlines how the introduction of new emerging technology has resulted in the design of a number of PD diagnostic systems for practical applicaton of residual lifetime prediction. The appropriate PD data base structure and selection of learning data size of PD pattern based on fractal dimentsional and 3-D PD-normalization, extraction of relevant characteristic fea-ture of PD recognition are discussed. Some practical aspects encountered with unknown stress in the neuro-fuzzy techniques based real time PD recognition are also addressed.

  • Thirty Bradyrhizobium japonicum isolates (10 strains per each soil) from 1 uncultivated [Sangnam(Soil 1), Milyang]- and 2 cultivated [Dong(Soil 2)and Chinbuk(Soil 3), Changweon] upland soils in Yeongnam area were evaluated on their symbiotic effectiveness to soybean [Glycin max (L.)] cv. Korean Jangbaekkong and American Clark and examined on their serological diversity. The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1. On symbiotic effectiveness of B. japonicum with plant genotypes, isolates showed a relatively high value of nodule mass in Jangbaekkong cv. and of shoot dry weight and total nitrogen in Clark cv. demonstrating the order of Soil 1> Soil 2> Soil 3 isolates. 2. Among 30 B. japonicum isolates, YCK 141 showed the best effectiveness on mean nitrogen fixation of two cultivars. 3. Thirty indigenous B. japonicum showed 6 types of serological diversities in the immunoblot analysis which were present in various proportions at Soil 2(5) and Soil 3(5) except Soil 1 where all isolates fell into the YCK 117 serogroup. And their distribution order was serotype YCK 117( 12 strains) > USDA 1l0(5strains), USDA 123(5 strains) > YCK 150(4 strains) > YCK 141(3 strains) > YCK 226(1 strain). 4. Especially, 10 isolates from Soil 1, an uncultivated orchard, showed a very homologous pattern in not only effectiveness but serological distribution. It seemed to indicate that the isolates were typically affected by numerous physical and environmental factors of the soil.

  • Background and objectives: Chromosomal abnormalities play an important role in genesis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and have prognostic implications. Five major risk stratifying fusion genes in ALL are BCR-ABL, MLL-AF4, ETV6-RUNX11, E2A-PBX1 and SIL-TAL1. This work aimed to detect common chromosomal translocations and associated fusion oncogenes in adult ALL patients and study their relationship with clinical features and treatment outcome. Methods: We studied fusion oncogenes in 104 adult ALL patients using RT-PCR and interphase-FISH at diagnosis and their association with clinical characteristics and treatment outcome. Results: Five most common fusion genes i.e. BCR-ABL (t 9; 22), TCF3-PBX1 (t 1; 19), ETV6-RUNX1 (t 12; 21), MLL-AF4 (t 4; 11) and SIL-TAL1 (Del 1p32) were found in 82/104 (79%) patients. TCF3-PBX1 fusion gene was associated with lymphadenopathy, SIL-TAL1 positive patients had frequent organomegaly and usually presented with a platelets count of less than $50{\times}10^9/l$. Survival of patients with fusion gene ETV6-RUNX1 was better when compared to patients harboring other genes. MLL-AF4 and BCR-ABL positivity characterized a subset of adult ALL patients with aggressive clinical behaviour and a poor outcome. Conclusions: This is the first study from Pakistan which investigated the frequency of5 fusion oncogenes in adult ALL patients, and their association with clinical features, treatment response and outcome. Frequencies of some of the oncogenes were different from those reported elsewhere and they appear to be associated with distinct clinical characteristics and treatment outcome. This information will help in the prognostic stratification and risk adapted management of adult ALL patients.

Expression of Neuronal Nitric Oxide Synthase (nNOS) in Developing Rat Kidney (분화중인 흰쥐 콩팥의 요세관에서 nNOS의 발현)

  • Nitric oxide (NO) is an important regulator of renal blood flow, glomerular hemodynamics, and tubule transport processes in the kidney. There is also evidence that NO is involved in cell cycle regulation and mitotic division. During development the nNOS expression pattern differs from that observed in adult animals. However, little is known about temporal and spatial patterns of nNOS expression in the developing kidney. The purpose of this study was to establish the time of expression and the distribution of nNOS in the developing rat kidney. Kidneys from 14-, 16-, 17-, 18-, and 20-day-old fetuses, 1-, 4-, 7-, 14-, and 21-day-old pups, and adult animals were preserved and processed for immunohistochemistry. In the adult kidney, nNOS was detected in the parietal epithelium of Bowman s capsule, macula densa, descending thin limb and inner medullary collecting duct. nNOS immunoreactivity appeared first in the distal tubule anlage at 15 days of gestation, and in all epithelial cells of developing thick ascending limbs (TAL) as well as macula densa of 17- and 18-day-old fetuses. From 20 days of gestation to 14 days after birth, nNOS was expressed in the newly formed cortical TAL, which are located in the medullary ray, whereas in mature TAL of juxtamedullary nephrons, nNOS immunolabeling gradually decreased in intensity and became restricted to the macula densa. In inner medullary collecting ducts, nNOS immunoreactivity appeared first at 7 days after birth in the papillary tip and gradually ascended to the border between outer and inner medulla. In the descending thin limb and parietal epithelium of Bowman's capsule, weak nNOS immunoreactivity was observed at 14 days after birth and labeling gradually increased to adult levels at 21 days after birth. These results suggest that differential expression of nNOS in the developing kidney is an important physiological regulator of renal function during kidney maturation.

Mutagenecity evaluation of insecticidal 2-carbomethoxy-4-chlorodiethyl phosphate in short-term bioassays (살충성 물질 2-carbomethoxy-4-chlorodiethyl phosphate의 유전독성 평가)

  • For evaluating the mutagenic potential of 2-carbomethoxy-4-chlorodiethyl phosphate, three different short-term mutagenicity tests were used; Salmonella typhimurium preincubation assay with and without rat liver microsomal activation, chromosome aberration test in cultured chinese hamster lung fibroblast cell and in vivo micronucleus test in male mice bone marrow. In Salmonella typhimurium reverse mutation assay using TA98, TA100, TAl535 and TAl537, 2-carbomethoxy-4-chlorodiethyl phosphate did not show any mutagenic response in the presence and absence of S9 mix. It did not induce any significant structural chromosome aberrations in the absence of metabolic activation. In micronucleus test using ICR mice, the frequency of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes (MNPCE) increased in bone marrow cells treated with positive control, mitomycin-C, but 2-carbomethoxy-4-chlorodiethyl phosphate did not increase micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes. These results indicate that 2-carbomethoxy-4-chlorodiethyl phosphate does not show any positive responses in short-term genotoxicity assays.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the effectiveness of four leadership types to employees that affected by leaders of the University-Industry Collaboration Foundation(UICF). This study has analyzed through structural equation modeling(SEM) using AMOS after surveyed for 178 employees out of 404 employees about IUCF of 35 universities in nationwide. In order to examine the power of influence that leadership types of leader how to improve organizational effectiveness on IUCF, leadership types were classified with transformational leadership(TFL), transactional leadership(TAL), coaching leadership(CL) and servant leadership(SL) as independent variables and job satisfaction(JS), organizational commitment(OC) and self efficacy(SE) as a dependent variables. The results are following; first, job satisfaction and organizational commitment were affected by transformational leadership, transactional leadership and coaching leadership. second, self-efficacy was not statistically significant for power of influence that affected by transactional leadership and servant leadership. third, the employees of UICF in connection with self-efficacy were only weak affected by transformational leadership and coaching leadership. fourth, job satisfaction, organizational commitment and self-efficacy as the three dependant variables were not utterly influenced by servant leadership.

Test Anxiety Investigation of Students in Oriental Medicine College by Using Korea's version-Test Anxiey Inventory, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Symptom Check List-90-Revision (시험불안척도, 상태-특성불안 척도, 간이정신진단검사를 이용한 한의학과 대학생의 시험불안 특성)

  • Objective : The aim of this study is to investigate and measure the Test-anxiety of college students in OO Oriental Medicine by using Korea's version-Test Anxiey Inventory(K-TAI-K), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI), Symptom Check List-90-Revision(SCL-90-R), etc. Methods : We studied 181 students who being at OO College of Oriental Medicine in second semester, 2007 We used some questionaries like K-TAI-K, STAI, SCL-90-R , College Life Satisfacaion, Life Event Questionnaire. Results and Conclusions : 1.141 persons(83,43%) of students feel the largest test anxiety before test. 18 persons(9.94%) of students feel the largest test anxiety after test. 2.The 1st grade students of preparatory course and 4th grade students of regular course have the lowest score in State Anxiety Inventory and obsessive-compulsive of SCL-90-R. The 2nd grade students of regular course have the lowest score in State Anxiety Inventory and obsessive-compulsive of SCL-90-R 3. Students who failed in test one time have the lowest score , and who failed in test more than two times have the highest score in K-TAl-K Students who failed one time in grade promotion more than two times showed high score in second K-TAI-K. 4. The higher grade, the lower score in College Life Satisfaction. The scores of College Life Satisfaction have negative correlations with those of K-TAI-K, STAI SCL-90-R except phobic anxiety, 5. The scores of Life Event Questionnaire have positive correlations with those of K-TAI-K, STAI and SCL-90-R except phobic anxiety. 6. The scores of K-TAl-K have positive correlations with those of STAI, SCL-90-R, College Life Satisfaction and Life Event Questionnaire. A correlation coefficient of obsessive-compulsive scale is highest, anxiety scale is second, interpersonal sensitivity scale is third, depression scale is fourth high among the scales of SCL-90-R.

Chromosomal Analysis of Meiosis and Mitosis in New Zealane White Rabbit (New Zealand White 토끼의 생식세포 및 체세포 분열에 의한 염색체 분석)

  • Chromosomal characteristics of New Zealane White rabbit was studied at meiosis and mitosis. The meiotic chromosomal preparations were mad with the modified air-drying method and karyotype analysis was performed with the G-banding technique, using isolated mitotic metapase chromosomes of the New Zealand White rabbit. Chromosomes, sex vesicles and centromeres could be classified in the zygotene and the pachytene of the meiosis I. The hair-like processes projecting laterally from the axes of bivalent chromosomes at the mid-to-late pachytene were observed and made the appearance of the lampbrush chromosome structure. Chromosomes could be classified onthe basis of the numbers and locations of chiasma in the diakinesis. Twenty-one autosomal bivalents and a single unequal terminally associated X-Y bivalent were observe during the late prophase and the metaphase of the meiosis I. Most of the bivalent types observed in the New Zealand White rabbit spermatrocytes were 1CH, 1TAl, and 2TA bivalents. The mean chiasma frequency(CF) of the male New Zealand White rabbit was 30.2 and it was found that the CF value tended to decrease through diakinesis and the metaphase I. The karyotype of the New Zealand White rabbit was a male chromosome number of 44(2n=44) comprising 8 pairs of metacentric, 9 pairs of submetacentric, 4 pairs o acrocentric autosomes, metacentric X chromosome and acrocentric Y chromosome.
