유한요소 역해석을 이용한 Tailor Welded Blank의 용접선 설계 (Design of Weld Line of a Tailor Welded Blank by Inverse Finite Element Analysis)

  • Design of a weld line in a tailor welded blank is indispensable for good manufacturing of stamped parts as assigned, since the intial weld line is distorted severely with forming. The initial weld line has to be determined such that desired weld line in a formed part can be obtained. The initial weld line was predicted by inverse finite element analysis from the desired weld line in a formed part. The inverse approach is applied to the cylindrical and square cup drawing with tailor welded blanks. The applications demonstrates that the approach is useful for design of weld line of tailor welded blank.

  • In this study, the forming behavior of Tailor welded HS and IF steel s-rail stamping is analyzed by experiments and simulations. According to the results, uniform strain distribution in the formed part is most important to prevent springback and wrinkle formation. For that purpose, it is most effective to distribute uniformly the contact pressure of blank and bland holder.

  • The press formability analysis of welding parts was studied in the current work by the tailor welded blank. As the body panel is used in the press forming of welding parts by a weld method of the tailor welded blank, the following conditions are demanded: 1) The strength of welding parts must be the higher than base metals. 2) After the welding, severe welding deformatins must be avoided. 3) The press formability of welding parts is similar to that of many base metals. 4) The productibility of a welding has to be higher. There are many welding methods satisfying these conditions, but the purpose of this study is to inbestigate the upset weldability and formability of the material (SPCC). SPCC steel sheet showed good weldability and formability under some welding conditions. The experimental results were discussed by the evaluation of the results obtained from tensile tests, hardness tests, micro-structures and Erichsen cup test was a little lower than that of parent material.

  • For the purpose of establishing laser welding condition(laser power, welding speed and beam focus) and of evaluating tailor welded blank for three kinds of thin steel sheets of SPCC, SK5M and SUS304 using in the thin plate structure such as automobile, train and so on. Their $CO_2$ laser weldability were primarily tested under various welding condition. SPCC and SUS304 thin sheets showed good weldability under some welding condition. But, high carbon steel sheet SK5M needs heat treatment after welding to obtain higher tensile strength and ductility of the welded joint. And next, laser welding condition. Butt-welded specimens were not nearly broken at weld bead. However, base material were ruptured in the direction of circumference. The forming depths by tailor weld bead. However, base material were ruptured in the direction of circumference. The forming depths by tailor welded blank were SPCC+SPCC=22~25mm, SUS304+SUS304=25~43mm and SK5M+SK5M=13~17mm.

  • A tailor welded blank (TWB) is a welded blank comprised of two or more sheets with different properties - thickness, strengths or formabilities. TWBs are applied to the body panels to reduce weight and cost of the part. In this research, ultra high strength steel and high ductility steel were joined and laser tailor welded blanks were implemented. Yb:YAG laser welding tests were conducted with various welding conditions, and mechanical and geometrical characteristics of weldments were evaluated.

  • Tailor-welded blanks are used for forming of automobile structural skin components. The main objective of this study is to achieve weight and cost reduction in manufacturing of components. For successful application of tailor-welded blanks, design of initial welded blanks and prediction of the welding line movement are critical. The utilization of the backward tracing scheme of the finite element method shows to be desirable in design of initial welded blanks for net-shape production and in prediction of the welding line movement. First the design of the initial blank in forming of welded thick sheet with isotropy is tried, and it appears successful in obtaining a net-shape stamping product. Based on the first trial approach, the backward tracing scheme is applied to anisotropic tailored blanks. The welding line movement is also discussed.

Tailor Welded Blanks를 이용한 승용차용 Sub-frame의 설계기법 연구 (A Study on the Development of Sub-frame Designe Using Tailor Welded Blanks)

  • The sub-frame of passenger car begins to be used widely for the safety of passengers. Conventional design of the sub-frame comprises 22parts, and it requires quite complicated production processes. In this papers, the sub-frame is designed with TWB(Tailor Welded Blanks) to improve stiffness, to reduce weight and to simplify the manufacturing process. To design the proper structure, structural analysis and crash analysis are executed about the conventional design and TWB applied design. A prototype TWB applied sub-frame is manufactured using mash-seam welded TB(Tailored Blanks). Comparing with the conventional sub-frame, the TWB applied sub-frame has 30% weight reduction and 17% increasement of structural stiffness in average.

  • In this study, the subframe of passenger car is developed by typical analysis and carsh simulations. According this results, energy absorption and barrier froce is very important to control passenger safety and deformation shape. For that purpose, it is most effective to absorb energy more tailor welded blanks(TWB) subframe than non-TWB. The subframe with TWB is simulated, in which reduced stamping parts, weight reduction and cost down.

  • The press formability analysis of welding parts was studied in the current work by the tailor welded blank. The press formability was tested by means of the flash weldability and the formability for two kinds of materials (SPCC & S35C). The results indicate that SPCC & S35C steel sheets showed good weldability and formability after an optimum welding conditions. The independent operation variables were characterized by strength of welding parts, deformation after the welding, press formability of welding parts and productibility of welding. The weldability and the quality of welding parts of the flashed SPCC steel sheet was superior to those of the S35C steel sheet, since a higher carbon content in steel sheet led to a higher hardness. The experimental results were discussed by the evaluation of the results obtained from tensile test, hardness test, micro-structure and V bending test.

  • The weld line location and the weld line movement in stamping with laser-tailor welded blanks(TWB) were investigated through square cup deep drawing tests. The step blank holder was introduced to form TWB of different thicknesses without wrinkling, and the non-uniform blank holding force(BHF) was enforced to control weld line movement. Test results of the blanks with shifted weld lines showed that the large portion of the thinner area could result in a large weld line movement. Careful selection of the weld line location and the BHF control should be adapted in TWB design to avoid failures and to ensure its formability.
