  • A variety of fish species undergo an ontogenetic change in prey selectivity, and several potentially interacting factors, including nutrient requirement, microhabitat change, and foraging ability, may account for the occurrence of the shift. Here we examine the foraging ecology and ontogenetic diet shift of a micro-carnivorous goby, Pterogobius elapoides (serpentine goby), dominant component of fish assemblage in shallow rocky areas off the coast in Korea and Japan. Although most other gobies are primarily benthic carnivores, P. elapoides is a semipelagic fish; however, little is known about how those species change their foraging tactics with growth. In our diet analyses, the most common diet was pelagic copepods and benthic amphipods, and diet shift was observed from pelagic to benthic with growth. The ontogenetic diet shift seems to be the result of the preference for energetically more profitable prey in larger-size classes as well as the results of different prey availability due to among-habitat variation in diet. However, differential food preference does not appear to affect individual scope for searching food. Several factors such as predation pressures and interspecific resource partitioning might contribute to the changes in diet observed among size classes, which were included in our ongoing tests.

  • The purposes of this study were to find correlation between family abuse experience, family stress, social support, family resiliency and happiness in university students, and to explore the mediating role of social support and family resiliency between family abuse experience, family stress and happiness. The subjects were 295 university students. The data were analyzed by means of frequency analysis, Pearson's correlation and structural equation modeling with SPSS and AMOS. Instruments were Lee's(2010) Happiness Scale for university students, Strauss'(1988) CTSP(Parent-Child Conflict Tactics Scale), McCubbin's(1981) FILE(Family Inventory of Life Events and Changes), Yu's(2004) Family resiliency of Family Health Scale and Park's(1985) Social Support Scale. The major findings were as follows; Family abuse experience was positively correlated with family stress and negatively correlated with social support, family resiliency and happiness. Family stress was negatively correlated with family resiliency. Social support and family resiliency were positively correlated with happiness. Family abuse experience positively influenced family stress and negatively influenced social support and family resiliency. Social support positively influenced family resiliency and happiness. Family stress negatively influenced family resiliency. Family resiliency positively influenced happiness. Thus education program and counseling should be provided to increase happiness and family resiliency, and social support should be provide to increase the quality of life for university students.

  • This study examined the effect of interparental conflict and parent-child conflict on overt aggression in upper elementary school students and investigates if children's father-child conflict or mother-child conflict mediated the effect of interparental conflict on overt aggression. The participants of this study were 532 of fifth to sixth graders from three elementary schools located in Seoul and Gyeong-gi province. Participants were asked to respond to a written questionnaire to measure research variables of the Peer Conflict Scale, the Conflict Tactics Scales, and the Conflict Behavior Questionnaire. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and hierarchical multiple regression. Mediating effects were examined using analysis procedures of Baron and Kenny. The major findings were as follows: first, the level of interparental conflict and parent-child conflict of both mothers and fathers in upper elementary school students increased the level of overt aggression. Second, parent-child conflict of both mothers and fathers in upper elementary school students partially mediated the relation between interparental conflict and overt aggression. Higher levels of interparental conflict resulted in higher levels of parent-child conflict, and the subsequently higher frequency of overt aggression in upper elementary school students.

  • The methods for estimating the change of free energy in dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) are discussed on the basis of fluctuation theorems. Fluctuation theorems are tactics to evaluate free energy changes from non-equilibrium work distributions and have several forms, as proposed by Jarzynski, Crooks, and Bennett. The validity of these methods however, has been shown merely with the molecular dynamics or Langevin dynamics. In this study, the appropriate forms of fluctuation theorems for dissipative particle dynamics, which has similar structure to that of Langevin dynamics, are suggested using Liouville's theorem, and they are proved equivalent to original fluctuation theorems. Work distribution functions, which are probability distribution functions of works exerted on the system within the systematic change, are the basics of fluctuation theorems and their shapes are turned out to be dependent on the phase space trajectory of the change of the system. The reliability of Jarzynski and Crooks methods is highly dependent on the number of simulations to measure works and the shapes of the work distribution functions. Bennett method, however, can evaluate free energy changes even when Jarzynski and Crooks methods fail to do so.

  • As observed in the recent war, suppression of enemy air defense operation is one of the major tactics, simultaneously conducted with high payoff target. Specifically, our air defense operation should be properly constructed, since the operating environment of our forces mostly consists with mountainous terrain, which makes detections of the enemy difficult. The effective arrangements of low altitude air defense radars can be suggested as a way of improving the detection capability of our forces. In this paper, we consider the location problem of low altitude air defense radar, and formulate it as an Integer Programming. Specifically, we surveyed the previous researches on facility location problems and applied two particularly relevant models(MCLP, MEXCLP) to our problem. The terrain factor was represented as demand points in the models. We verified the optimal radar locations for operational situations through simulation model which depicts simple battle field. In the simulation model, the performance of optimal radar locations are measured by the enemy detection rate. With a series of experiments, we may conclude that when locating low altitude air defense radars, it is important to consider the detection probability of radar. We expect that this finding may be helpful to make a more effective air defense plan.

  • Recently, game players want new game requiring more various tactics and strategies in the complex environment beyond simple and repetitive play. Various artificial intelligence techniques have been suggested to make the game characters learn within this environment, and the recent researches include the neural network and the genetic algorithm. The Genetic programming(GP) has been used in this study for learning strategy of the agent in the pursuit-evasion problem which is used widely in the game theories. The suggested GP algorithm is faster than the existing algorithm such as neural network, it can be understood instinctively, and it has high adaptability since the evolving chromosomes can be transformed to the reasoning rules.

  • A hill-sliding technique was devised to extract Gaussian clusters from the multivariate probability density estimates of sample data for the first step of iterative unsupervised classification. The underlying assumption in this approach was that each cluster possessed a unimodal normal distribution. The key idea was that a clustering function proposed could distinguish elements of a cluster under formation from the rest in the feature space. Initial clusters were extracted one by one according to the hill-sliding tactics. A dimensionless cluster compactness parameter was proposed as a universal measure of cluster goodness and used satisfactorily in test runs with Landsat multispectral scanner (MSS) data. The normalized divergence, defined by the cluster divergence divided by the entropy of the entire sample data, was utilized as a general separability measure between clusters. An overall clustering objective function was set forth in terms of cluster covariance matrices, from which the cluster compactness measure could be deduced. Minimal improvement of initial data partitioning was evaluated by this objective function in eliminating scattered sparse data points. The hill-sliding clustering technique developed herein has the potential applicability to decomposition of any multivariate mixture distribution into a number of unimodal distributions when an appropriate diatribution function to the data set is employed.

  • Full-board position evaluation in Go is a measurement of judging the advantages and disadvantages between black and white players during a game playing, and through this, the proper tactics and strategies would be undertaken in the near future. In this paper, we tried to evaluate the full-board positions of the 50 AlphaGo vs AlphaGo games using influence function that halved according to the distance. According to the experimental results, there is a limit to making accurate evaluation when the full-board position is assessed only by influence function. In order to overcome this, it is necessary to solve life-and-death problems to deal with dead stones, and it showed that if this is reinforced, we can precisely evaluate the full-board position in Go.
