  • The tactical effectiveness, which is the result of applying decision-making algorithms to respond a specific situation with weapons and sensors, is required to analyze according to the integrated combat situation, because each situation, which is intimately involved with each other, influences the surface ship to complete missions successfully. However, the tactical effectiveness have been analyzed in separation of each tactical situation due to the complexity of the integrated tactical situation. This paper is originated from the needs for analyzing the anti-submarine search region of the surface ship after it evades the torpedo by operation of the torpedo countermeasure tactics. It also describes simulation results of effectiveness analysis for the search patterns in the search region.

  • Discrete noise signals from a small scale tactical unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) propeller were predicted numerically using time domain approach. Two-bladed 29 inch propeller in diameter and 150 kgf in gross weight were used for main parameters of the UAV based on the actual size of the similar scale vehicle. Panel method and Farassat formula A1 were adopted for aerodynamic and aeroacoustic analysis respectively. Time domain signals of both thickness and loading noises were transformed into frequency domain to analyze the discrete noise characteristics. Directivity pattern in a plane perpendicular to the rotating disc plane and attenuation of noise intensity according to double distance were also presented.

  • The tactical operation centers of future anti-aircraft missile systems provide the environment for the research on future air threats, tactical information, integrated battlefield environment creation and management, engagement control and command and control algorithms. To develop the key functional elements of integrated battlefield situation creation and processing and tactical operation automation processing operations, battery/battalion tactical operation control and reconfiguration design software are required. Therefore, the algorithm software of each function and the tactical operation display software and link software for interworking between equipment were developed as reconfigurable through a data-centric design. In this paper, a tactical operation display framework that can be reconfigured on the operation display of the tactical operations according to the battery/battalion is introduced. This tactical operation display framework was used to develop a common data model design for the reconfigurable structure of multi-role tactical operations with battery / battalion and mission views, and a display configuration tool that provides a tactical operation display framework for view development was also developed using the MVC pattern. If the tactical operation display framework is used, it will be possible to reuse the view design through the common base structure, and a view that can be reconfigured easily and quickly will also be developed.

  • A Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) is now widely used for commercial and military purpose. In this paper, it is supposed that seven-meter-class RIB be used as an unmanned target ship for naval training. In order to develop many tactical maneuvering patterns of a target ship, a simple horizontal maneuvering model of a RIB is needed. Therefore, models of speed and yaw rate are constructed as the first-order differential equations based on Lewandowski#s empirical formula for steady turning circle diameter of a conventional planning hull. Some parameters in the models are determined using the results of sea trial tests. Finally, proposed models are validated through the comparison of the simulation result with the sea trial result for a specific scenario. Even though a simple model does not represent the horizontal motion of a RIB precisely, however, it can be used enough to develop tactical trajectory patterns.

  • Typical highway infrastructure systems include roadway pavement, drainage systems, tunneling, and other hardware components such as guardrails, traffic signs, and lighting. Tunnels in a highway system have provided significant advantages to overcoming various natural challenges including crossing underneath bodies of water or through mountainous areas. While only a few tunnel failure cases have been reported, the failure rate is likely to increase as these assets age and because agencies have not emphasized tunneling asset management. A tunnel system undergoes a deterioration life cycle pattern that is similar to other infrastructure systems. There are very few agencies in the United States implementing comprehensive tunnel asset management programs. While current tunnel asset management programs focus on inspection, maintenance, and operation safety, there is an increasing need for the development of a comprehensive life cycle tunnel asset management program. This paper describes a conceptual framework for a comprehensive tunnel asset management program. The framework consists of three basic phases including a strategic plan, a tactical plan, and an operational plan to provide better information to the decision makers. The strategic plan is a basic long term approach of tunnel asset management. The tactical plan determines specific objectives and the operational plan actually applies asset management objectives in practice. The information includes operational condition, structural condition, efficiency of the system, emergency response, and life cycle cost analysis for tunnel capital improvement project planning.

  • This paper describes the design and fabrication of an electronically rotated Tactical Air Navigation(TACAN) antenna using parasitic elements and PIN diode switches. We used parasitic elements arranged in a circular array and PIN diode switches to electronically rotate the antenna instead of employing a mechanically rotated antenna using motor. The antenna's physical characteristics and design features to generate the cardioid pattern and nine-lobe pattern including bearing information are described and simulated. The measured result shows a very good agreement with simulation and meets the specification of MIL-STD-291C.

  • In this paper, I designed the satellite system, using the MF-TDMA (Multi Frequency-Time Division Multiple Access) DAMA (Demand-Assigned Multiple Access) method, that allocates the satellite resources more effectively to prevent a large quantity data discard when Earth Terminals (ETs) request their satellite network resource to Network Controller (NC) by using their history information, such as traffic pattern or traffic class which have been receiving, and the network controller allocates the satellite network resource and send to earth terminals by using his history information that earth terminals have been requested already. The U.S. Military Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) community has selected the L-3 Linkabit MF-TDMA DAMA Network Centric Waveform (NCW) as the networking standard for full-mesh IP over SHF satellite communications. In the MF-TDMA DAMA satellite network, network controller allocates the satellite network resources and enables maximum 255 earth terminals to communicate each other for periodic satellite network resource requests of earth terminals.
