Design of a Fully Integrated Low Power CMOS RF Tuner Chip for Band-III T-DMB/DAB Mobile TV Applications (Band-III T-DMB/DAB 모바일 TV용 저전력 CMOS RF 튜너 칩 설계)

  • This paper describes a fully integrated CMOS low-IF mobile-TV RF tuner for Band-III T-DMB/DAB applications. All functional blocks such as low noise amplifier, mixers, variable gain amplifiers, channel filter, phase locked loop, voltage controlled oscillator and PLL loop filter are integrated. The gain of LNA can be controlled from -10 dB to +15 dB with 4-step resolutions. This provides a high signal-to-noise ratio and high linearity performance at a certain power level of RF input because LNA has a small gain variance. For further improving the linearity and noise performance we have proposed the RF VGA exploiting Schmoock's technique and the mixer with current bleeding, which injects directly the charges to the transconductance stage. The chip is fabricated in a 0.18 um mixed signal CMOS process. The measured gain range of the receiver is -25~+88 dB, the overall noise figure(NF) is 4.02~5.13 dB over the whole T-DMB band of 174~240 MHz, and the measured IIP3 is +2.3 dBm at low gain mode. The tuner rejects the image signal over maximum 63.4 dB. The power consumption is 54 mW at 1.8 V supply voltage. The chip area is $3.0{\times}2.5mm^2$.

  • Recently, due to rapid developments of wireless communication and digital TV, modern society needs to process of aquisition, storage and transmission of much information. So the importance of signal processing is increasing and various digital filters are used in the two-dimensional signal such as image. And kinds of these digital filters are IIR(infinite impulse response) filter and FIR(finite impulse response) filter. And FIR filter which has the phase linearity, the easiness of creation and stability is applied to many fields. In design of this FIR filter, flatness property is a important factor in pass-band and stop-band. In this paper, we designed a 2-D Circular FIR filter using the Bernstein polynomial, it is presented flatness property in pass-band and stop-band. And we simulated the designed filter with noisy test image and compared the results with existing methods.

  • In this paper, Low Noise Block down converter(LNB) is designed for a Ka-band satellite television receiver only(TVRO) using commercially available MMIC. Designed Low Noise Block down-converter is composed of three stage amplifiers involving input noise matched at first amplification stage, image reject band pass filter, frequency mixer and intermediate frequency amplification. Through LNB Module power budget to obtain gain and attenuation, Optimum LNB devices satisfying Ka-band LNB technical specification are selected. Experimental results of designed Ka-band LNB yields conversion gain of over $58{\pm}1dB$, noise figure of less than 1.5dB and phase noise of -94.6dBc @10KHz.

  • Fully embedded tunable bandpass filter (BPF) with inductive coupling circuits is newly designed and demonstrated for UHF TV tuner ranged from 500MHz to 900MHz receivers. Conventional RF tuning circuit with an electromagnetic coupled tunable filter has several problems such as large size, high volume, and high cost, since the electromagnetic coupled filter is comprised of several passive components and air core inductors to be assembled and controlled manually. To address these obstacles, compact tunable filter with inductive coupling circuit was embedded into low cost organic package substrate. The embedded filter was optimally designed to have high performance by using high Q spiral stacked inductors, high dielectric $BaTiO_3$ composite MIM capacitors, varactor diodes. It exhibited low insertion loss of approximately -2dB, high return loss of below -10dB, and large tuning range of 56.3%. It has an extremely compact size of $3.4{\times}4.4{\times}0.5mm^3$.

  • In this paper, a design of active inductors and their application in a frequency converter are proposed. In MMIC design, passive spiral inductor takes larger area than any other passive and active elements. A conventional spiral inductor generates undesired crosstalk, and its performance cannot have certainty and reproducibility. Meanwhile the active inductor eliminates these drawbacks, and operates for much wider bandwidth. Furthermore, its size is smaller and nearly independent of inductance. the performance of MMIC frequency converter with active inductors is directly compared with that of the frequency converters with spiral inductors. The size is 28.6% smaller with better performance in MMIC frequency converter.

  • 본 논문에서는 열악한 주파수 선택적 페이딩이나 고속 페이딩 채널 환경에서 ATSC(Advanced Television System Committee) DTV 수신기의 등화 성능 향상을 위해 필터 탭을 선택적으로 사용하는 스파스 적응 등화기 구조를 제안한다. 제안된 등화기는 채널 추정을 수행한 후 등화기 초기화를 위한 탭 계수를 찾는다. 구해진 등화기 탭의 초기화 계수에 대해 특정 임계값을 적용하여 유효한 탭을 선택하여 활성화시킨다. 그리고 활성화 된 탭만을 이용하여 채널 등화를 수행한다. 결과적으로 기존 등화기와 동일한 탭 길이를 가지 고 있지만, 실제 사용하는 탭 수가 작아지므로 등화기의 단계상수를 크게 만들어 고속 페이딩 채널의 변화를 빠르게 추적할 수 있게 된다. 제안된 등화기 알고리듬의 성능 개선을 확인하기 위한 실험으로 ATSC DTV 성능분석 시 일반적으로 사용되는 브라질 채널 및 ATSC등화 성능 요구 조건에 대해 기존의 등화기와 비교 분석하였다. 그 결과 기존의 등화기와 같은 안정성을 가지면서 빠른 수렴 속도를 가지고 고속 페이딩 채널 보상 능력의 큰 향상을 보였다.

A Study on Preprocessing of Depth Image for 3D Service Based on Depth-Image-Based Rendering over T-DMB (지상파 DMB에서의 DIBR 기반의 3차원 서비스를 위한 깊이 영상 전처리 방법에 관한 연구)

  • 본 논문에서는 지상파 DMB에서의 DIBR(깊이 영상 기반 렌더링) 기반의 3차원 서비스를 위한 깊이 영상 전처리 방법을 제안한다. 지상파 DMB 환경에서의 3차원 서비스는 HD급 화질의 3차원TV와 달리 작은 화면을 통해 3차원 영상이 출력되고, 3차원 영상의 전송량에 제약이 따르기 때문에 DIBR을 이용한 3차원 서비스 모델이 주목 받고 있다. 그러나 DIBR을 이용하여 3차원 서비스를 하는 경우에 획득된 깊이 영상을 그대로 사용하게 되면 비 폐색 영역으로 인한 홀이 발생하게 되고, 깊이 영상의 연속성으로 인해 객체 내에 홀이 발생되는 문제점을 가지게 된다. 이에 깊이 영상이 가지는 값을 화소의 이동거리와 특성에 따라 같은 값으로 조절하여 객체 내에 발생되는 홀의 수를 감소시키고, 경사도 방향 기반 평활화 필터를 이용하여 깊이 영상의 비연속성을 줄여 홀을 분산시킴으로서 렌더링된 3차원 영상의 입체감을 유지하면서 화질을 향상시켰다.

  • H.264와 같은 고압축 비디오처리 기법의 등장으로 기존의 MPEG2와 같은 비디오 압축에서 H.264로의 비디오 트랜스코딩이 증가되고 있지만, 고압축 비디오 콘텐츠의 온라인과 오프라인에서 불법배포는 현재 문제가 되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 다이렉트쇼 환경 기반에서 고압축과 저작권 보호를 위한 비디오 트랜스 코딩과 워터마킹을 구현한다. 제안한 방법은 다이렉트쇼의 필터를 이용하여 MPG,WMV를 H.264로 비디오 트랜스코딩을 하고 이와 함께 비디오의 공간영역 특성을 이용하여 저작권 보호를 위한 강인한 워터마킹을 구현한다. 실험 결과 MPG,WMV를 H.264로 트랜스코딩에서 H.264의 QP(Quantization parameter)를 15로 하고 화면간 반복을 10프레임으로 하였을 경우 저작권 보호를 위하여 삽입된 워터마크는 평균 99% 검출됨을 확인하였고, 또한 트랜스코딩중 워터마크삽입에 따른 시간지연은 전체 트랜스코딩시간의 5.7%가 됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 제안한 방법은 저작권 삽입 기능가지는 트랜스코딩 소프트웨어를 필요로 하는 Digital TV방송, IPTV, DVD 사업에 사용 될 수 있을 것이다.

Generation of Multi-view Images Using Depth Map Decomposition and Edge Smoothing (깊이맵의 정보 분해와 경계 평탄 필터링을 이용한 다시점 영상 생성 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a new scheme to generate multi-view images utilizing depth map decomposition and adaptive edge smoothing. After carrying out smooth filtering based on an adaptive window size to regions of edges in the depth map, we decompose the smoothed depth map into four types of images: regular mesh, object boundary, feature point, and number-of-layer images. Then, we generate 3-D scenes from the decomposed images using a 3-D mesh triangulation technique. Finally, we extract multi-view images from the reconstructed 3-D scenes by changing the position of a virtual camera in the 3-D space. Experimental results show that our scheme generates multi-view images successfully by minimizing a rubber-sheet problem using edge smoothing, and renders consecutive 3-D scenes in real time through information decomposition of depth maps. In addition, the proposed scheme can be used for 3-D applications that need the depth information, such as depth keying, since we can preserve the depth data unlike the previous unsymmetric filtering method.

Application of Adaptive Loop Filter for NRT-Based Stereoscopic Video Coding (비실시간 기반 스테레오스코픽 비디오 부호화를 위한 적응루프필터 적용기법)

  • A stereoscopic 3D video service is able to provide a 3D video service while keeping backward compatibility with the existing 2D video service. In the terrestrial digital television (DTV) system, a stereoscopic video codec is required to have high coding efficiency in order to provide a 3D video service in the same channel capacity. A hybrid codec consisting of MPEG-2 for base video and H.264/AVC or HEVC for 3D auxiliary video is considered. Furthermore, Non-Real-Time (NRT) delivery of stereoscopic video is also considered as a service scenario for 3DTV services to overcome the limited bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a stereoscopic video coding scheme using adaptive loop filter (ALF) which had been considered in HEVC as a pre-/post-filter for enhancing coding efficiency in NRT-based 3DTV services. In order to apply ALF as a post-filter to the reconstructed additional view coded by H.264/AVC, we devise a method in which ALF is adaptively applied based on a structure determined by using macroblock (MB) coding information such as MB mode type and reference index instead of coding unit (CU) structure on which ALF is applied in the HEVC. Experimental results shows that the proposed stereoscopic video coding scheme applying ALF obtains up to 24.9% gain of bit saving.
