TV White Space Low-noise and High-Linear RF Front-end Receiver (텔레비전 유휴 주파수 대역을 지원하는 저잡음 및 고선형 특성의 RF 수신기 설계)

  • This paper has proposed a low-noise and high-linear RF receiver supporting TV white space from 470 MHz to 698 MHz), which is implemented in $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. It consists of a low-noise amplifier, a RF band-pass filter, a RF amplifier, a passive down-conversion mixer, and a channel-selection low-pass filter. A low-noise amplifier and RF amplifier provide a high voltage gain to improve the sensitivity level. To suppress strong and nearby interferers, two RF filtering schemes have been performed by using a RF BPF and a down-conversion mixer. The proposed LPF has been based on the common-gate topology and adopted a bi-quad cell to achieve -24dB/oct characteristics. In addition, the RF receiver can support the overall TV band by controlling a LO frequency. The simulated results show a voltage gain of 56 dB, a noise figure of less than 2 dB, and an out-of-channel IIP3 of -2.3 dBm. It consumes 37 mA from a 1.5 V supply voltage.

  • ATSC DTV system uses FPLL block for acquiring the frequency synchronization. Because the FPLL uses only the pilot signal, the frequency convergence range becomes narrower and it takes a more time to acquire the frequency synchronization as the pilot is distorted. And the spectrum shape around the pilot makes an asymmetric convergence range between the positive frequency offset and the negative frequency offset. This paper proposes the algorithm that requires the Installation of the fitters at the both edges of a VSB spectrum and uses the signal power that passes these filters. The proposed algorithm complements the problems of the asymmetric convergence range and overcomes the performance degradation due to the distortion of a pilot level.

  • The evolution of spectrum sharing technology enables the creation of many business scenarios and business models such as TV white space service. Business models considering spectrum sharing should guarantee economic feasibility for service providers and increasing benefit for service users. In addition, new business models should contribute to economic activation in the wireless telecommunication service industry. It is therefore necessary to design quantitative evaluation methods for selection of the best business models. The methods should reflect the various points of view of valuation. Our research addresses evaluation method for business models considering spectrum sharing. We define evaluation indicators to reflect the distinct characteristics of spectrum sharing. Also, we adopt analytic hierarchy process(AHP) to derive the weights of each indicator to evaluate business models considering spectrum sharing.

Multi-band CIC Filter based Low Complexity Spectrum Sensing Method (다중밴드 CIC 필터에 기반한 저복잡도 스펙트럼 센싱 기법)

  • Available electric wave resources have been limited than frequency demands that increase with the development of radio communication. According to FCC's (Federal Communication Commission) report, 70% of allocated spectrum was unused. This means that the lack phenomenon of electronic wave resources is ineffectively managed compare with the finiteness of frequency resources. According to the recognition of unused frequency within allocated band, this progress has been investigating to identify the unused TV channel and provide radio communication services. This paper proposed the sensing algorithm that efficiently recognizes the frequency resources which does not use and shares with the licensed user through using the multi-band CIC (Cascaded Integrator Comb) filter based on polyphase filter bank. The simulation results verifies that the proposed scheme can obtain the similar performance of variance and relatively low complexity to the existing scheme.

  • 최근 TV 디지털 방송에 대한 많은 관심이 집중되면서 국내의 디지털 텔레비전 방송(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting: DMB)과 유럽의 디지털 텔레비전 방송((Digital Video Broadcasting: DVB)에 대한 기술 개발이 지속적으로 이루어지고 있다. 국내의 DMB는 지상파 DMB와 위성 DMB가 있고, 유럽의 DVB는 일반 방송국으로부터 가정용 또는 사무실용의 고정된 장치에서 수신을 하는 DVB-T와, 휴대 전화기나 휴대용 영상기기 등의 저전력, 이동성, 휴대성을 고려한 DVB-H가 있다. 또한 휴대폰이나 PDA와 같은 휴대 통신단말기의 기능복합화 요구에 따라, 국내에서는 휴대폰에 TV 방송기능과 인터넷을 이용할 수 있는 네트워크 서비스가 내장된 단말기가 속속 출시되어 치열한 경쟁구도에 접어들고 있다. 이러한 시장요구에 부응하기 위해 다양한 분야에서 기능 복합화를 실현하고자 하는 " Ubiquitous Convergence화"가 급속도로 진행되고 있다. 그러나 단일 시스템에서 2가지 이상의 기능(GSM/GPRS & DVB-H)이 Convergence화 되어있을 경우, 시스템 상호간 간섭영향으로 각 장치의 기능 저하가 발생하고 있다. 특히, 동일 주파수대역 사용에 의해 방생하는 간섭영향에 대한 적절한 대응이 요구되는 시점이다. 본 고에서는 무선 통신 분야 기술개발의 한 부분으로 부품의 초소형화 및 동일 주파수대역 사용에 의해 발생하는 간섭영향을 제거하는 내용에 대해서 기술한다.

A Study of RF Watermark Backward Compatibility under Various Channel Environments (다양한 채널환경 하에서의 RF 워터마크 역호환성 연구)

  • In a single frequency network (SFN) for Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) terrestrial digital television (DTV) system, the interferences induced by the multiple transmitters and/or repeaters using the same frequency are inevitable. Since the presence of interferences results in performance degradation of the SFN, it is crucial to manipulate the interferences by adjusting the transmit power and timing of each transmitter and repeater. In the ATSC terrestrial DTV system, in order to facilitate the interference manipulation process, a transmitter identification (TxID) signal which is uniquely embedded in the signal to be transmitted from each transmitter and repeater is recommended. Even though the injection level of the TxID signal is much lower than the DTV signal, the TxID signal injection infects the DTV signal. Hence, the effect of the TxID signal on the DTV signal must be investigated before deployment. In this paper, the effect of the TxID signal on the performance of legacy DTV receivers under additive white Gaussian noise and multipath channel environments is investigated not only with computer simulation but also with laboratory and field tests. The test results show that the average threshold of visibility degradation of the legacy DTV receivers due to the TxID signal injection is less than 0.2 dB at the TxID injection level of -30 dB.

  • 본 논문은 지상파 DMB에서 각 서비스 사업자들을 위해 이미 할당된 주파수 블록(block)들간 가드밴드내에 신규 블록을 추가로 할당함으로써 주파수 이용 효율을 높이기 위한 방법을 제안한다. 본 논문은 특히 6 MHz TV 대역내에 이미 할당되어 서비스 중인 현재의 지상파 DMB 서비스와 역방향 호환성을 유지하면서 주파수 가드밴드 영역을 최대한 활용하기 위해, 종래의 송신 시스템에 새로운 서브캐리어를 삽입하고 단일 6MHz 주파수 대역의 전송신호를 생성하기 위한 방법을 제시하고 있다. 본 논문에서의 제안한 방법을 활용하면, 서비스 사업자 입장에서는 가변적인 주파수 대역폭 이용을 통해 좀 더 다양한 서비스 모델을 구상할 수 있고, 사용자 측면에서는 단말 상황에 따라서 기본적인 서비스부터 고품질의 모바일 멀티미디어 서비스를 제공받을 수 있을 것이다.

Noise Reduction of PDP TV Using Multi-dimensional Spectral Analysis Method (다차원 스펙트럼 해석법을 이용한 PDP TV의 저소음화)

  • The method is introduced for estimating the noise source contribution on the noise of PDP TV in a multiple-input system where the input sources may be coherent with each other. By the coherence function method, it is found that the biggest part of the noise source in the PDP TV noise is generated by the PCB boards which consume high power and produce high heat. This analysis is modeled as three-input/single-output system because the noise is generated by three main boards, X-board, Y-board, SMPS that are located close to each other. The coherence function method is proved to be useful tool for identifying of noise source. In this study, Transfer Path Analysis using MDSA is implemented to determine the quantitative noise contribution of each board for PDP TV with the rear case closed and with the rear case open. And the possibility of noise reduction is confirmed through the experimental method that isolates the most contributing board by adding sound-absorbing materials to it.

Analysis of Maximal Transmitter Power according to Distance between Hetero Systems Co-using a Co-channel (이기종시스템에서 동일채널공유시 단말간 이격거리에 따른 최대 송신전력 분석)

  • In this paper, we consider to obtain the criteria for maximal power of interfering transmitter according to distance between WiBro and WLAN in TVWS. We analyze this criteria as a parameter for co-use when hetero systems share the same frequency channels. In order to make an analysis of relationship between distance and power of two systems, we take into consideration on two cases. First, WiBro is an interfering transmitter and WLAN is a victim receiver. Second, WLAN is an interfering transmitter and WiBro is a victim receiver. Analyzed coexistence results under various co-use scenarios may be widely applied into the technique developed to get the coexisting condition for wireless devices using many communication protocols in same frequency.

  • Recently, many frequency sharing technology including CR (Cognitive Radio) technology have been studied actively because of frequency scarcity. For implementing CR systems, spectrum sensing technology plays key role. In IEEE 802.22 WRAN, the first standard aimed at Internet service in a TV channel with CR technology. This paper explained the various spectrum sensing schemes detecting narrowband ATSC signal in the IEEE 802.22 such as Energy detector, Spectral Correlation Sensing scheme, Covariance based Sensing algorithm and analyzed in terms of the probability of misdetection when the probability of false alarm is 10%. Based on simulation results, this paper proposed a duplex sensing scheme based on Energy detector and analyzed the capability of the proposed sensing scheme comparing with each sensing scheme.
