The Characteristics of Energy Consumption with Operational Conditions for the Central Cooling System (냉방시스템의 운전조건에 따른 에너지 소비특성 연구)

  • The operational conditions such as cooling tower water pump flow rate, cooling tower fan flow rate, and chiller capacity in heat source equipment, and supply air temperature and chilled water temperature in air conditioner are considered to study the effects on energy consumption for central cooling system by using TRNSYS program. As a result, the optimal values of supply air temperature and chilled water temperature for minimal total energy consumption are 12℃ and 8℃. And if maximum values of cooling tower water pump and fan flow rate is decreased from 100% to 40%, energy consumptions are increased 170MJ/day and 63.2MJ/day, respectively.

  • A theoretical method was developed to analyze the effect of low-$\varepsilon$ coatings which have influence on thermal performance of vacuum windwo glazing and double pane glazing. The overall heat transfer coefficient(U) value and thermal performance were analyzed by theroretical method on various kins of windows. TRNSYS program was used to analyze total heating and cooling energy consumption on the model building which has various windows. As the result, better thermal insulation can be achieved on the vacuum window glazing than double pane glazing when low-$\varepsilon$ coating was done on the surface of glass. Total heating and cooling energy consumption was almost same on the double pane window glazing but was lessened on the vacuum window glazing when the window size of south direction increased. Therefore, low-$\varepsilon$ coating was very necessary for vacuum window glazing in order to improve thermal insulation performance and efficient energy conservation can be achieved by vacuum window glazing at the real building which has large window.

  • The optimal control system for heat source and HVAC system has been developed for minimizing energy consumption while maintaining the comfort of indoor thermal environment in terms of the environmental variables such as time varying indoor load and outdoor temperatures. The optimal set-points of control parameters are supply air temperature and chilled or hot water temperatures. The optimal control study has been implemented for biosafety laboratory by using TRNSYS simulation program in order to investigate energy performance for heat source and HVAC system.

  • In this study, the effects of prediction and reset control of outdoor air temperature on energy consumption for central heating system are researched by using TRNSYS program package, and the control performances with the suggested methods of prediction and reset control of outdoor air temperature are compared with the existing ones. As a result, the value of coefficient of determination $R^2$ for the predicted outdoor temperatures is improved and the suggested control method shows maximum 21.8% energy saving in comparison with existing control ones.

  • The on-line optimal control algorithm for central heating system has been researched for minimizing energy consumption while maintaining the comfort of indoor thermal environment in terms of the environmental variables such as indoor heating load and outdoor temperature variation. Application of the Outdoor Air Temperature Prediction Control for Intermittent Heating Residences (간헐난방주택에 대한 외기온도 예측제어 적용 연구)

  • Most of radiant floor heating systems are operated in the intermittent heating mode in Korea. The application possibility of predictive suboptimal control for Koran residential house was investigated by computer simulation and experiment. For this study, TRNSYS program was used and an experimental facility consisting of tow rooms ($3\times4.4\times2.8 m$) identical in construction was built. The facility enabled simultaneous comparison of two different control method. And real multi residential hose was investigated. Results showed that outdoor air temperature prediction control was superior to the conventional control for radiant floor heating system operated in the intermittent heating mode. New control system resulted in good thermal environment and les energy consumption.

  • This study describes thermal performance of Plus50 eco-building with new technology such as power window system, green wall, structure material, etc. The Plus50 eco-building is house experimental which is constructed by Korea Institute of Construction Technology. In order to estimate thermal performance of the building, TRNSYS program and Prebid, and its sub-modules are used. The results showed that maximum heating and cooling load in the building are calculated at 1st floor and 4th floor, respectively. And also energy saving of the building is calculated as over 30% compared to conventional apartment house.

  • Technology on the proportional integral (PI) control have grown rapidly owing to the needs for the robust capacity of the controllers from industrial building sectors. However, PI controller requires tuning of gains for optimal control when the outside weather condition changes. The present study presents the possibility of reinforcement learning (RL) control algorithm with PI controller adapted in the HVAC system. The optimal design criteria of RL controller was proposed in the Environment Chamber experiment and a theoretical analysis was also conducted using TRNSYS program.

  • The real time optimal control algorithm of the DDC controller for chilled water and supply air temperature set-point of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems has been researched for minimization of the total power which is consumed by the chiller, chilled water pump and air handing unit fan. The study has been done by using TRNSYS program in order to analyze the central cooling system in terms of the environmental variables such as indoor cooling lead and wet-bulb temperature. This optimal control alogorithm saves more energy and is suitable for real time on-line control in comparison with conventional method.

  • This study aims to develop the analysis tool that assesses the sunlight at any given point of a window or solar collector array shaded by surrounding obstacles. The development of this software, named SunChart, focused to the user-friendliness and the reliability. This SunChart can calculate the solar radiation as well as shading on the certain face. The calculation results by SunChart show by both numerically and graphically and are in a good agreement with ones obtained from "Sunrise Sunset" developed at Korea Astronomy Observatory and from TRNSYS.
