  • Sixty postpartum lactating Friesian cows in 3 treatments at a commercial dairy farm were used to study the effect of using progesterone supplementation with GnRH and PGF2$\alpha$ synchronization with and without timed AI on fertility during summer. Cows in treatment1($Tr_1$) and treatment2 ($Tr_1$) were fitted with progesterone releasing intravaginal device (PRID) device and injected with 10 g GnRH agonist on $51{\pm}3$ d postpartum (pp). Seven days later, PRID was removed and cows received 25 mg PGF2$\alpha$. Two days later, $Tr_1$ cows received another injection of 10 g GnRH and timed AI 16-20 h later. Control cows received only 25 mg PGF2$\alpha$ $58{\pm}3d\;pp$. $Tr_2$ and control cows were AI at detected estrus. Serum progesterone for all cows was determined on days of injection, AI and 21, 23 and 28 d postinsemination. Pregnancy rates from first AI based on serum P4 concentrations on d 21, 23 and 28 postinsemination (50, 40 and 35%) and that based on rectal palpation 40-45 d postinsemination (30, 15 and 15% for $Tr_1$, $Tr_2$ and control cows, respectively) did not differ among the three groups. Whereas, pregnancy rate at 120 d pp for $Tr_1$ (65%) was higher (p<0.05) than that in $Tr_2$ (30%) or control (30%). The overall pregnancy rate was not significantly different (90, 90 and 75% for $Tr_1$, $Tr_2$ and control, respectively). Days open for cows in $Tr_1$ ($100.3{\pm}9$) was less (p<0.03) than that in $Tr_2$ ($130.9{\pm}9$) or control ($135.1{\pm}10$). Results indicate that using PRID device with Ovsynch program had significantly increased pregnancy rate and decreased days open compared to AI at detected estrus after synchronization with GnRH, PRID and PGF2$\alpha$ or synchronization with one injection of PGF2$\alpha$.

  • Dennis (1972) reported that Trichosporon cutaneum FRI-425 from the petioles of Pheum rhamponticum var, had showed the celluloytic activity. Chun (1977) also suggested that Trichoporon pullulons 225 isolated from the saline water of the Yeoung San River had a similar properties. However, the assay conditions for enzyme activity were not yet investigated. Thus, the present work was undertaken to examine some conditions for CMCase activity and at the same time to compare the activities of crude enzyme produce from above two species of Trichosporon pullulans. The results are as follows; 1. The maximum production of total reducing sugar by crude enzyme of Tr. pululans was after 30 minutes, whereas that of Tr. cutanuem FRI-425 was after 90 minutes. This fact showed that the reaction velocity of enzyme from Tr. pullulans 225 was more faster than that of Tr. cutaneum FRI-425. 2. Two species showed a similar trend to increase the production of reducing sugar in proportion to the increment in substrate concentration and to arrive at maximum level at lmg/ml of substrate concentration. However, Tr. pullulans 225 produced more $50{\mu}g$ of reducing sugar compared to Tr. cutaneum. 3. The optimum PH for CMCase activity is 5.0 for Tr. pullulans 225 as well as Tr. cutaneum FRI-425, and PH stability lie within the range of 6 and 8. In the activity and stability of enzyme on PH changes, enzyme of Tr. cutaneum FRI-425 was more unstable than that of TY. pullulans 225. 4. The optimum temperature for CMCase activity was $40^{\circ}C$, and enzyme activity from Tr. pullulans 225 was more sensitive to temperature changes compared with that of TY. cutaneum. The heat stability was within $40^{\circ}C$, but that was rapidly decreased above $40^{\circ}C$. In comparison of the heat stability for enzyme of Tr. cutaneum FRI-425 with that of Tr. pullulans 225 at the same temperature of $80^{\circ}C$, the former was some 10 percent more stable than the latter.

  • $PbTiO_3$/P(VDF/TrFE) 0~3 composites thin films with 0.10 and 0.13 of ceramic volume fraction factor have been fabricated by two-step spin coating technique and analyzed. 0~3 connectivity of $PbTiO_3$/P(VDF/TrFE) composites film was observed successfully by SEM micrography. The SEM picture confirmed 0~3 connectivity. And, in all the properties, 0~3 $PbTiO_3$/P(VDF/TrFE) composites film was superior to P(VDF/TrFE) copolymer. Therefore, with a good low-dielectric constant and a high pyroelectric coefficient, the composite thin films can be used for a new pyroelectric infrared sensor of higher performance.

  • Due to the ultrawide band property of an UWB pulse, it is difficult to digitally implement a TR-UWB system in time domain. In order to overcome this problem, we propose two types of TR-UWB systems which can be implemented in frequency-domain. One of thorn is derived from the Parseval's theorem, which results in its system performance equitable to that of time-domain based system. In addition, we propose another receiver structure which can improve the performance by exploiting the complex nature of the frequency components. Finally, through simulations, we compare the performances of two receiver structures with the time domain counterpart.

  • TR8 is a recently identified member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily. TR8 seems to play important roles in bone metabolism as stimulation of this receptor with its ligand, TL8 or osteoclast differentiation factor (ODF), induced the differentiation and activation of osteoclasts. Despite its important biological functions, the biochemcial events ensuing form TR8 activation have not been revealed in detail. Most of TNF receptor family proteins provoke the activation of the NF-$textsc{k}$B transcription factor. In the present study, we examined the signaling potential of TR8 to induce NF-B activation. When overexpressed in a human embryonic kidney cell line by transient transfection, TR8 caused a strong activation of NF-$textsc{k}$B, which was further increased upon stimulation with TL8. The TR8-induced NF-B activation was abrogated by the co-expression of the TRAF6 mutnat lacking the Ring and zinc finger domains and that of the kinase-inactive mutant NIK. Taken together, our study suggests that the presence of intact TRAF6 and the kiase activity of NIK may be essential for TR8 to induce NF-$textsc{k}$B activation.

  • TR module using in satellite must consider discriminative electrical and mechanical requirements compare to the one using in ground and aircraft system since not only the environment level of vibration and shock during the launch stage but also the level of radiation, vacuum and thermal variation from orbit environment are more severe than atmosphere condition. This paper describes the environmental conditions of launch and the orbit and, suggests design method of TR module applying GaN to satisfy the unique environmental requirements of satellite systems by especially focusing on parts selection, derating design, RF budget design, manufacturing process design, and thermal design of TR module.

  • Poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene; P(VDF-TrFE)) is one of the most promising electroactive polymers with numerous application potentials in many fields of industry. Because of its good electro-mechanical properties P(VDF-TrFE) has been used for a number of sensors and actuators and also can be used for monitoring composite structure behaviors as a sensor. Three different ways (Electrical poling, annealing-cooling, and pressing) to enhance ${\beta}$-phase of P(VDF-TrFE) film were carried out. A microscopic analysis was conducted using X-ray diffraction to investigate the effect of such treatments on piezoelectric properties of P(VDF-TrFE) film. From the results, poling, annealing-cooling, and pressing were all effective to enhance ${\beta}$ crystallinity of P(VDF-TrFE) film and the maximum increase rate was 62.80% from 45.29% of the control group.

  • In this study, we elucidated anti-cancer activity and potential molecular mechanism of 70% ethanol extracts from Taxilli Ramulus (Taxillus chinensis (DC.) Danser) (TR-E70) against human colorectal cancer cells. Anti-cell proliferative effect of TR-E70 was evaluated by MTT assay. The effect of TR-E70 on the expression of cyclin D1 in the protein and mRNA level was evaluated by Western blot and RT-PCR, respectively. TR-E70 suppressed the proliferation of human colorectal cancer cell lines, HCT116 and SW480. Although TR-E70 decreased cyclin D1 expression in protein and mRNA level, decreased level of cyclin D1 protein by TR-E70 more dramatically occurred than that of cyclin D1 mRNA. Cyclin D1 downregulation by TR-E70 was attenuated in presence of MG132. In addition, TR-E70 phosphorylated threonine-286 (T286) of cyclin D1. TR-E70-mediated cyclin D1 degradation was blocked in presence of LiCl as an inhibitor $GSK3{\beta}$ but not PD98059 as an ERK1/2 inhibitor and SB203580 as a p38 inhibitor. Our results suggest that TR-E70 may downregulate cyclin D1 as one of the potential anti-cancer targets through $GSK3{\beta}$-dependent cyclin D1 degradation. From these findings, TR-E70 has potential to be a candidate for the development of chemoprevention or therapeutic agents for human colorectal cancer.

  • Dielectric characteristics of P(VDF/TrFE) film manufactured using spin coating technique have been investigated. To improve the crystallinity and quality of film, the film was three step annealed. Simple etching process and conditions for P(VDF/TrFE) film were established using top electrode as a mask. Poling is performed by several steps. $1.87\;{\mu}m$ thick P(VDF/TrFE) films were obtained with conditions such that the solution of 10 wt% concentration was spun at 3000rpm for 30 seconds. Before poling, dielectric constant and dielectric loss of P(VDF/TrFE) film were 13.5 and 0.042, respectively. After poling, dielectric constant and dielectric loss of P(VDF/TrFE) film were 11.5 and 0.037, respectively.
