Statement of problem : Little is known about the effect of a counter-torque device and the internal hexagon of abutment on the tightening torque transmitted to the implant. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a counter-torque device and the internal hexagon of abutment on the tightening torque transmitted to the implant. Material and Methods : In this study, three types of abutment were used, (1) two-piece conical abutment with hexagon, (2) two-piece conical abutment without hexagon, and (3) one-piece conical abutment without hexagon. The experimental groups were divided into five groups according to the type of abutment and the usage of a counter-torque device. Group I : two-piece conical abutment with internal hexagon was tightened without the use of a counter-torque device. Group II : two-piece conical abutment without internal hexagon was tightened without the use of a counter-torque device. Group III : one-piece conical abutment without internal hexagon was tightened without the use of a counter-torque device. Group IV : two-piece conical abutment with internal hexagon was tightened with the use of a counter-torque device Group V : two-piece conical abutment without internal hexagon was tightened with the use of a counter-torque device. Abutments were tightened 20Ncm torque with the use of manual torque wrench and then torque values were measured by torque-gauge. After the measurement of torque values, all groups were loosened with the use of manual torque wrench and then detorque values were measured by torque-gauge. Results : The results were as follows. 1. There were no differences in torque values among three types of abutment. 2. Regardless of the existence of the internal hexagon of abutment, a counter-torque device decreased the tightening torque transmitted to the implant about 92% 3. In group III showed the highest detorque value, however there were no differences among group I, II, IV and V. Conclusion : Within the limitations of this study, it was concluded that the internal hexagon of abutment has no effect on the tightening torque transmitted to the implant and the detorque value of abutment screw. The use of a counter-torque device is essential to prevent microfracture on the implant-bone interface but has no effect on preload.

This paper presents a study on the driveline output torque estimation using a discrete Kalman filter. The in-situ output shaft torque is first measured by a non-contacting magneto-elastic torque transducer. The linear state-space system equations are first derived and the discrete Kalman filter is designed based on the Kalman filter theory to recover the driveline output torque contaminated by random noises. In addition to using torque measurement, the estimation of the output torque using two angular velocities: the output and wheel, is also conducted. The experimental results show that the discrete Kalman filter can be effective for not only removing the random noise in output torque but also estimating the output torque without torque measurement.

This study tries to test and analyze the static friction torque generated by an electromagnetic clutch. Then the torque is improved by optimizing the shape of armature. For the purpose of design change and optimization of the electromagnetic clutch, the static friction torque prediction is very important. We construct an axi symmetric FEM model for analyzing the static friction torque and used a torque tester for evaluating the real torque. For a test, predicted static friction torque is compared with the experimental one to discuss the rationality of torque analysis process. The analytical result agrees well with experimental data, explaining the validity of the mathematical process and FEM model. After confirming the torque analysis process, the optimization process is investigated. The optimization result shows that the static torque is improved by changing the armature shape.
This paper attempts to summarize torque control strategy for high performance SR drive. There are primarily two strategies for torque control. One method is direct torque control, which uses the simple control scheme and hysteresis controller to reduce the torque ripple. Another method is indirect torque control, which uses the complicated algorithms or simple distribution function to distribute each phase torque and obtain current command. The current controller is used to control phase torque by a given current command. In order to compare these two strategies of torque control, five torque control methods are introduced. The advantages and disadvantages of each method are presented. At last, they are verified by some simulations and experimental results.

For permanent magnet brushless DC motors used for high speed fuel pumps, torque ripple is an important origin of vibration, acoustic noise and speed fluctuation. In this paper, the output torque profile of a PM motor with one phase energized is decomposed into the commutation torque, the reluctance torque and the armature reaction torque according to their source origins. It verifies that the output torque profile is qualitatively equivalent to the BEMF profile for low reluctance motors. This paper discusses the effect of magnet pole shaping and magnet arc length on the output torque and torque ripple. A magnet edge shaping is proposed to design a trapezoidal BEMF motor without torque ripple, with minimal sacrifice of the maximum output torque.
In this paper, a torque sensor is designed and fabricated to measure the knee joint torque of a walking assist robot for stroke patients. The torque sensor sensing part was modeled on the link of the part connected to the knee joint motor. The torque capacity of the knee joint was calculated by simulation and the size of the torque sensor sensing part was designed using the finite element method. The torque sensor was fabricated by attaching a strain gauge to the sensing part. Characteristic experiments were conducted to characterize the torque sensor, and the torque sensor was calibrated to utilize it for the control of the walking assist robot. As a result of the characteristics test, the reproducibility error and the nonlinearity error of the torque sensor were 0.03% and 0.04%, respectively. Therefore, it is considered that the developed torque sensor can be used to measure the torque applied to the knee joint when walking on a walking assist robot.
This paper presents an advanced torque ripple minimization method of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) using torque sharing function (TSF). Generally, TSF is applied into the torque control. However, the conventional TSF cannot follow the expected torque well because of the nonlinear characteristics of the SRM. Moreover, the tail current that is generated at a high speed motor drive makes unexpected torque ripples. The proposed method combined TSF with fuzzy logic control (FLC). The advantage of this method is that the torque can be controlled unity at any conditions. In addition, the controller can track the torque under the condition of the wrong TSF. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by the simulations and experiments.

This paper introduces the new Direct Torque Control(DTC) method based on the estimated torque in Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) and applies the proposed DTC to SRM for the instantaneous torque ripple reduction. The nonlinear characteristics of SRM is considered in the calculation of the estimated torque and the theory is described in this paper. Current control is one of the kernel elements of torque controller and the performance of the current control should be high for this work. But the conventional PI current control has a weak point in SRM application because of motional EMF. Consequently, this paper makes up for the weakness of PI controller through present of new current controller, that is termed the non-interference current control. The ability of proposed torque and current controller is verified through simulation and experiment.
The torque characteristics of a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) are analyzed in this study. The harmonics of the back electromotive force (EMF) and cogging torque are analyzed by the finite element method to study their effects on the torque ripple. Although low cogging torque can be achieved by varying geometric parameters such as the permanent magnet (PM) offset and notch depth on the stator teeth, the torque ripple is increased in some cases. The analysis results show that the ripple of the generated torque is determined by not only the amplitudes but also the phases of harmonics for the back EMF and cogging torque.

A measurement of very high torque for track drive unit in construction equipment is usually in difficulties due to the requirement of a torque meter with high capacity, and the limitation of geometry for an experimental set-up. To improve the troublesome problem, a new device was proposed, where a torque transmitted through the torque arm can be measured by load cells attached at each torque arm. The experimental set-up of the new device was carried out in order to measure the torque values for a mechanical feedback type planetary gear box, in which the power flow circulates itself in a closed-loop. The new device enables to measure torque values of 60,000Nm. Additionally, the measured values were estimated statistically in the aspect of their repeatability and reproducibility, so that an acceptable behaviour as a measuring device can be confirmed.
