  • Deposition processes limit the life time of pollutants in the atmosphere and control the distance travelled before deposition. Thus the understanding about atmospheric deposition processes is essential for a proper assessment of the environmental impacts due to the anthropogenic pollutants. The dry deposition velocities are related to surface types, atmospheric stabilities, friction velocities, air pollutants and so on. In this study we simulated the dry deposition velocities of O3 in Pusan region. The calculated deposition velocities compared to the observed O3 data obtained during the summer of 1988 over a deciduous forest in Canada. The comparison showed that the model somewhat overpredicted deposition velocities for the average diurnal variations with maxima in daytime and minima in nighttime mostly due to the turbulence intensity.

  • Wake downstream of an object in the stratified flow has been of long-standing interest in fluid dynamics because of its similarity to geophysical flow over topographical terrains and more recently, concerns about the wake left behind a body moving through the ocean thermocline. Decades of studies of geophysical flow have unveiled that the flow downstream of obstacles in stratified flow consists of attached wake and strong internal waves, or separated, fluctuating wake and persistent late wakes, all of which depend on the flow conditions. Among unique and interesting characteristics of the stratified flow past obstacles is the generation of coherent vortex structure in the late wake far downstream of the object. Without the density stratification, the flow field downstream becomes undisturbed after relatively fast diminishing of the near wake. However, no matter how small the stratification is, the flow field downstream self-develops coherent vortex structures even after diminishing of the near wake. This paper present a computational approach to simulate the generation mechanism of the coherent vortex and analysis of the vortical structure.

  • An attempt is made to predict the wear behavior of ion-nitrided metal, when wear arises from asperity interactions. The analysis demonstrates that wear mechanisms are not inconsistent with observed behavior, indicates and approaches to a better appreciation of the effects of such factors as nitrided layer formation and surface topographical features. It was found on ion-nitriding that penetration rate and case development are faster and wear properties of the final product are more improved than conventional gas and salt-bath methods of nitriding.

  • We have studied the prearranged plan and the economy of a candidate site for the development of small hydro power. And also we have confirmed its economy by suggesting the technology of the unmanned operation and the selection of the water turbine generator which has a great efficiency, working rate and suitability to the topographical characteristics of various development sites, for example, irrigation reservoirs, water works pipes, sewage systems and cooling water of a steam power station. We proposed some opinions such as the better improvement of small hydropower industry the people' view, cooperation among industry/university/ research institutes, remote control/maintenance and goverment's legislature and supporting system etc.

  • Over the last two decades, air quality models have been developed and used in the United States. Many of these models ate distributed as parts of UNAMAP. These models have been used as useful tools for urban air quality management in Korea. However, when we use these models, many problems could be occured because of their different topographical and meteorological conditions. In the present study it is described that the characteristics about developement of the local scale diffusion models for application to Korea. Also for evaluation purpose of the models, input data requirements such as air pollutant concentrations, emission inventory, meteorological data, and field experiment data, were discussed.

  • Landslides in the close residential area occur loss of life and properties. Usually soil mechanical methods and multi-statistical methods used to analysis the landslide. The factors of landslide analysis by multi-statistical methods are composite operations of geology, topography, vegetation, and climate etc. In this study, existing landslide areas are cheesed to extract the characteristics of their geographical data for adaption of Multi-statical methods. Authors give a weight to their values and analyze the some area using technique of overlap on GSIS.

  • The Imha watershed is vulnerable to severe erosion due to the topographical characteristics such as mountainous steep slopes. The RUSLE model was combined with GIS techniques to analyze the mean annual erosion losses and the soil losses caused by typhoon "Maemi". The model is used to evaluate the spatial distribution of soil loss rates under different land uses. The mean annual soil loss rate and soil losses caused by typhoon "Maemi"were predicted as $3,450\;tons/km^2/year$ and $2,920\;ton/km^2/"Maemi"$, respectively. The sediment delivery ratio was determined to be about 25% from the mean annual soil loss rate and the surveyed sediment deposits in the Imha reservoir in 1997.

  • In-situ collection experiments were performed to analyze inflowing sedilnents behavior as a basic study of topographical change in Nakdong River Estuary. Sediment rate and bed load flux ranged from 0.0004 to $0.472\;g/cm^2/day\;and\;0.0005\~1.7579\;g/cm^2/day$, respectively. The settling velocity of suspended particulate matter was estimated in tire range of $0.339\~1.010\;cm/sec$, The grain size analysis shows that surface sediments in backside of sandbar and bed load in front of dike have a similar grain size distribution. It is considered that the source of surface sediments in backside of sandbar were flowed in from Nakdong River. In order to verify the characteristics of inflowing sediments behavior, detailed surveys around Nakdong River Estuary need to be carried out, continuously.

  • Recently, the water pollution of coastal sea area including harbor, bay and inland sea has been very serious and it causes various environmental impacts. In this study, water flow system of Danghang Bay, which has the narrow and long topographical characteristics with the narrow bay mouth and its flow is influenced principally by the tidal current, is investigated experimentally and numerically. In order to understand the tidal system of Danghang Bay, harmonic analysis is performed based on measured tidal range and flow velocity In addition, numerical model for tidal exchange is developed considering conditions of Danghang Ray. Calculated results show good agreement with measurements. Lastly. based on the proposed numerical model, exchange ratio of seawater volume in Danghang Bay is predicted.
