Advanced oxidation of wastewater was studied with a purpose to remove TOC and color by the ozone-assisted Fenton reaction. The optimal conditions were determined by hydrogen peroxide and ozone concentrations. Experimental results indicate that the ozone treatment after Fentons process was found to provide very efficient removal efficiency in the process, avoiding the exclusive ozone treatment. The combined process of ozone in the Fenton oxidation respectively was increased removal efficiences of 10.7% in comparison with exclusive Fenton oxidation. Also, the treatments of ozone after Fenton's oxidation respectively had increased the removal efficiences of 16.%. As a result, the treatment of ozone after Fentons oxidation had the best removal efficiency of approximately 96%. Removal efficiency of color was significantly increased as mush as 26% by the advanced Fenton's oxidation in comparison with exclusive Fenton's oxidation. The removal efficiencies in the biological treatment using Bacillus subtilis after Fenton's oxidation and after Fenton's and ozone's oxidation were increased by 14% and 19% respectively. Although these combined Bacillus subtilis-assisted Fenton's oxidation was determined to be effective method to treat the dyeing wastewater in an economic point of view, the choice of wastewater treatment can be varied depending on water quality.
In the present study, the feasibility of $UV/H_2O_2$ systems was investigated using low and medium-pressure lamps on biologically treated wastewater effluents for secondary effluent reclamation. Two types of UV lamps were used as the light sources (a 39-W low-pressure mercury lamp and a 350-W medium-pressure mercury lamp). The results from these UV systems showed that the removal of organic compounds could be achieved in the contact time of longer than 30min (i.e., low UV doses). Efficiencies of color removal and disinfection were far better than those of organic matters measured as TOC, DOC and $TCOD_{cr}$. In the low-pressure lamp UV system, it has been found that DOC and color removals were 60.9 and 86.2% with 50mg/L of $H_2O_2$ and contact times of 30 minute, respectively. Whereas, with the medium-pressure lamp UV system, TOC, DOC and color removal were 27.1, 5.6 and 95% with 14.3mg/L of $H_2O_2$ and 14 minute of contact times, respectively. Both systems could be applied for the reclamation of secondary effluent treated with biological treatment processes.
This study was carried out for 30 days in aeration type and agitation type reactor to characterize organic matter decomposition and ammonia volatilization during the liquid composting of pig slurry, and organic matter and nitrogen removal rate through mass balance analysis was analyzed. In the aeration type reactor, the pH increased from 7.0 to 9.13, and TS 34.5%, VS 33.4%, $BOD_5$ 71.2%, $COD_{Cr}$ 62.3% and TOC 83.2% were removed. In addition, 44.6% of TN and 65.0% of ${NH_4}^+-N$ were removed. In the agitation type reactor, the pH increased from 7.0 to 8.10, and the removal rates of TS 0.9%, VS 0.5%, $COD_{Cr}$ 27.5%, $BOD_5$ 28.9% and TOC 41.3% were obtained. And TN and ${NH_4}^+-N$ showed removal rate of 25.3% and 29.2%, respectively. The first order kinetics constant related to $BOD_5$ degradation was $-0.039day^{-1}$ for aerobic liquid composting and $-0.013day^{-1}$ for agitated reactor. Nitrogen loss in aerobic liquid composting was about 2.3 times higher than that of agitated reactor, whereas FAN/TAN in aerobic liquid composting was about 7.9 times higher than that of agitation type reactor. Therefore, despite the low FAN/TAN in the agitation type reactor, the nitrogen loss rate was relatively high.
We investigated the reduction of pollutants such as TOC (total organic carbon) and decolorization of Reactive Black 5 (RB5) by photocatalytic oxidation. The optimal values of major parameters for the reaction were obtained including the concentration of RB5, the amount of $TiO_2$ dosage and pH of solution. The values were 100 mg/L, 2 g/L and 4.9, respectively. As the concentration of oxygen increased, removal rate of pollutants increased. After $TiO_2$ was regenerated and used again by micro filtration (MF) ceramic membrane, the removal efficiency of color and removal rate of pollutants did not decrease significantly.

In this study, water purification system without coagulant was consisted of F/A and membrane to produce purified water which only uses physical treatment without coagulant. Because the use of coagulant has a possibility remaining of hazardous aluminum with our health. Especially, the Filtralite was reviewed the possibility to remove turbidity and organic material. It was found that the turbidity removal rate of Filtralite was 83~84%. It show that Filtralite has similar efficiency to sand-filter. But Filtralite has higher 50% removal rate of organic material than sand-filter due to well-developed pore on the surface of it. So, Filtralite could be used to substitute the sand-filter for the F/A process due to higher removal rate. And also coupled with activated carbon in F/A process, TMP was increased by TOC value. To prevent increasing TMP, media that has outstanding organic adsorption ability should be used.

In this study, the treatment efficiency of inorganic membrane according to the flux that blending raw water was investigated at the laboratory level. Based on the results of each blending and flux, we obtained the best efficiency according to each measurement item. The treatment efficiencies were different depending on the raw water and treatment amount of the treated water. Especially, turbidity removal efficiency was high. In the case of $UV_{254}$, the removal efficiency according to the concentration of the raw water and the removal efficiency according to the flux of the treated water showed a maximum of 69 % to minimum of 48 %. In the case of TOC and DOC, the processing efficiency was 22 % and 28 %, respectively, because the organic value of the raw water was low. These results suggest that there is an optimal process to effectively remove contaminants from the inorganic membrane process, and it is necessary to optimize it according to operating conditions.
In this study, it was aimed to evaluate direct oxidation of aqueous solution containing cefalexin antibiotic with new generation Sn/Sb/Ni: 500/8/1 anode. The fact that there is no such a study on treatment of cefalexin with these new anode made this study unique. According to the operating parameters evaluation COD graphs showed clearer results compared to TOC and CLX and thus, it was it was chosen as major parameter. Furthermore, pseudo-first degree kd values were calculated from CLX results to show more accurate and specific results. Experimental results showed that after 60 min of electrochemical oxidation, complete removal of COD and TOC was accomplished with 750 mg L-1 KCl, at pH 7, 50 mA cm-2 current density and 1 cm anode-cathode distance. Also, the stability of the Sn/Sb/Ni anode was evaluated by taking SEM and AFM images and XRD analysis before and after of electrochemical oxidation processes. According to the results, it was not occurred too much change on the anode surface even after 300 h of electrolysis. Thus, it was thought that the anode material was not corroded to a large extent. Furthermore, the removal efficiencies were very high for almost all the time and conditions. According to the results of the study, electrochemical oxidation with new generation Sn/Sb/Ni anodes for the removal of cefalexin antibiotic was found very successful and applicable due to require less reaction time complete mineralization and doesn't require pH adjustment step compared to other studies in literature. In future studies, different antibiotic types should be studied with this anode and maybe with real wastewaters to test applicability of the process in treatment of pharmaceutical wastewaters containing antibiotics, in a better way.
The ozonation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) was performed at 20℃ using a pilot scale countercurrent bubble column reactor. Ozonation systems were combined with UV irradiation and TiO2 addition. As the oxidation reaction proceeded in each treatment system, the pH of the sample decreased and in the O3/UV/TiO2 system, the pH change was the largest from 4.54 to 2.02. Under these experimental conditions, the scavenger impact of carbonate is negligible. The highest COD and TOC removal rate was observed in the O3/UV/TiO2 system due to the UV irradiation and the photocatalytic effect of TiO2. Also, the highest mineralization ratio(ε) value is 0.2 in the O3/UV/TiO2 system, which means theoxidation capacity of the systems. The highest SMX degradation rate constants calculated by COD and TOC values (COD and TOC) were 2.15 × 10-4 sec-1 and 1.00 × 10-4 sec-1 in the O3/UV/TiO2 system, respectively. The activation energy (Ea) of ozone treatment follows the Arrhenius law. It was calculated based on COD and TOC. Each activation energy decreased in order of single O3> O3/TiO2> O3/UV > O3/UV/TiO2 system. The result showed that ΔH≠ is more effective than ΔS≠ in each SMX ozontaionsystem, that is characteristic of the common oxidation reaction.
Fenton reaction with zerovalent iron (ZVI) and $Fe^{2+}$ ions was studied to treat pharmaceutical wastewaters (PhWW) including antibiotics and non-biodegradable organics. Incremental biodegradability was assessed by monitoring biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) changes during Fenton reaction. Original undiluted wastewater samples were used as collected from the pharmaceutical factory. Experiments were carried out to obtain optimal conditions for Fenton reaction under different $H_2O_2$ and ion salts (ZVI and $Fe^{2+}$) concentrations. The optimal ratio and dosage of $H_2O_2$/ZVI were 5 and 25/5 g/L (mass basis), respectively. Also, the optimal ratio and dosage of $H_2O_2/Fe^{2+}$ ions were 5 and 35/7 g/L (mass basis), respectively. Under optimized conditions, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency by ZVI was 23% better than the treatment with $Fe^{2+}$ ion. The reaction time was 45 min for ZVI and shorter than 60 min for $Fe^{2+}$ ion. The COD and total organic carbon (TOC) were decreased, but BOD was increased under the optimal conditions of $H_2O_2$/ZVI = 25/5 g/L, because organic compounds were converted into biodegradable intermediates in the early steps of the reaction. The BOD/TOC ratio was increased, but reverse-wise, the COD/TOC was decreased because of generated intermediates. The biodegradability was increased about 9.8 times (BOD/TOC basis), after treatment with ZVI. The combination of chemical and biological processes seems an interesting combination for treating PhWW.
Bioreactors are devices used by sewage treatment plants to process sewage and which produce active sludge, and sediments separated by solid-liquid are treated in anaerobic digestion tanks. In anaerobic digestion tanks, the volume of active sludge deposits is reduced and biogas is produced. After dehydrating the digestive sludge generated after anaerobic digestion, anaerobic digested wastewater, which features a high concentration of organic matters, is generated. In this study, the decomposition of organic carbon and nitrogen was studied by advanced oxidation process. Ozone-microbubble flotation process was used for oxidation pretreatment. During ozonation, the TOC decreased by 11.6%. After ozone treatment, the TOC decreased and the removal rate reached 80.4% as a result of the Ultra Violet-Advanced Oxidation Process (UV-AOP). The results with regard to organic substances before and after treatment differed depending on the organic carbon index, such as CODMn, CODCr, and TOC. Those indexes did not change significantly in ozone treatment, but decreased significantly after the UV-AOP process as the linkage treatment, and were removed by up to 39.1%, 15.2%, and 80.4%, respectively. It was confirmed that biodegradability was improved according to the ratio of CODMn to TOC. As for the nitrogen component, the ammonia nitrogen component showed a level of 3.2×102 mg/L or more, and the content was maintained at 80% even after treatment. Since most of the contaminants are removed from the treated water and its transparency is high, this water can be utilized as a resource that contains high concentrations of nitrogen.
