본 증례의 환자는 자가 경부 마사지로 인한 척수부신경병증으로 경추부 근력 불균형 및 그에 따른 피로를 호소하였다. 자가 마사지로 인한 일시적 신경 압박은 7일에 걸쳐 자연 회복되었으며, 턱관절균형요법을 통해 자세와 척추 구조의 균형점을 회복시켜 환자의 피로와 자세 불균형을 개선할 수 있었다.

본 증례에서는 구안와사환자에게 음양균형장치를 포함한 표준형 구강내 균형장치, 침구치료, 골반교정 등 복합치료를 통해 유효한 임상경과를 보인 결론은 다음과 같다. 1. 안면신경은 주행이 길고 측두골내에서 좁은 골관을 지나기 때문에, 좌상(bruised) 등 여러 가지 이유에 의하여 골도속의 신경 부종과 혈액순환 장애로 지연성 마비를 일으킨다. 2. 음양균형장치와 표준형구강내 균형장치 등 턱관절의 균형조절을 통한 기능적뇌척주요법의 치료가 안면신경마비의 치료에 효과적인 방법인 것을 관찰하였다. 기존의 구안와사의 경우 대부분 뚜렷한 치료방법을 선택하기가 어려웠으나, 이 증례를 통해 볼 때 수술 등의 대증요법을 하지 않고 기능적뇌척주요법 치료의 접근을 시도해 볼 수 있는 가능성이 있다고 사료된다.

Objectives: The purpose of this review is to investigate the relationship between the extra meridians and the temporomandibular joint. Methods: Literature review on the eight extra meridians and theoretical considerations were performed with a focus on the relationship with the temporomandibular joint. Results: Extra meridians are crucial in the maintenance of the balance of the whole body, especially the structural balance of the anterior-posterior, left-right, superior-inferior, and interior-exterior regions. The foundation of extra meridians occurs in the lower abdominal area and the innate qi. Conclusions: Extra meridians are important players in the maintenance of the balance and harmony within the body, and may function cooperatively with the temporomandibula joint in its role to maintain the yinyang balance within the body.

Functional neurology is a function-oriented clinical neurology with a focus on the viability, functionality, and balance of the neurologic system, which may be considered as a form of yin-yang balance medicine like Korean medicine. While it incorporates knowledge systems such as developmental neurology, neuropsychology, comparative neuroanatomy, and others, it views the neurologic system and the body as an individually different, self-regulating mechanism with the help of the active balancing mechanism within the nervous system and between the individual and the environment, which view is at the core of its effort to improve and serve the human dignity based on the best possible functioning nervous system. This article reviews core concepts of the functional neurology, discusses yin-yang balance medicine perspectives and clinical applications of it.

본 증례에서는 틱 장애 증상과 오심 구토를 동반한 환자에게 턱관절균형요법을 병행한 한방 치료를 적용하여 증상의 호전을 관찰하였다. 따라서, 이와 같은 경우에 턱관절균형요법을 적용하여 중추신경계와 자율신경계를 안정화시켜 틱장애 증상을 개선시킬 뿐만 아니라 전체적인 척추 정렬을 바로잡음으로써 소화기계와 관련된 흉추의 안정화를 통하여 관련된 증상의 호전에도 효과가 있을 것으로 사료된다.

In order to understand Changeologically on the meaning of FCST's TMJ (temporo-mandibular joint) treatment procedure, Yi, Shike, Bi, Gen trigrams concerning the jaw and change by treatment were analyzed from the viewpoint of semiotic context of hexagon and holistic interpretation on disease. Yi is meant by jaw but actually indicates mouth made by maxilla and mandible, and it's characters are related with nourishing by aliment and words. But when we eat and speak in the daily life, jaw does not nourish properly it's own body by bad habit or postures. For the treatment of this ill state, there needs punishment and correction symbolized with Shike. Shike has fourth nine meaning obstacles between the two strong lines in the upper and lower end, and so it has the function of mastication and get rid of the fourth nine metaphorically indicating subluxation of axis using CBA and auxiliary measures of four movement or laughing methods. Bi expresses the achievement and effects of consecutive mastication process implicating normalized manifestation of jaw and its linked spinal function. Gen symbolizes removing selfish motive or partiality in advance and reaches the best state of the saint righteously self-nourishable human being.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to review main symptoms of outpatient in Lee young Jun clinics who developed the functional cerebrospinal therapy and to investigate the therapeutic effects on one time application of functional cerebrospinal therapy (FCST). Methods: Patients who visited at least twice at an oriental medical clinic and treated with FCST were included. They were asked to write 216 numeric rating scale (NRS)-based questionnaire about degree of various symptoms at each visit. Prevalence and degree decrease of all reported symptoms were analyzed. Results: Total of 744 outpatients were included. There were fourteen symptoms of which more than half of all patients commonly complained. All symptoms were significantly reduced after one administration of FCST. About four to seven percent of patients reported at least five-point reduction on NRS in each symptom after FCST. Conclusions: FCST might have potential immediate effect on not only TMJ related symptoms, but also diverse kinds of pain, psychological symptoms, and fatigue-related symptoms.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean medicine on trigeminal neuralgia in a patient with systemic sclerosis. Methods: We treated a 49-year-old male patient who has systemic sclerosis and trigeminal neuralgia by Korean medicine. He was treated from October 29th, 2022 to November 12th, 2022. The treatment applied was herbal medicine, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture. The evaluation was conducted by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Results: After 14 days of treatment, the symptoms were alleviated. Facial pain and dullness of taste improved. VAS of discomfort was decreased from 10 to 2. Conclusions: These results showed that Korean medicine may have an effect on reducing symptoms of systemic sclerosis and trigeminal neuralgia.

In order to establish a relationship between sleep related breathing disorder (SBD) and temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), a literature review was performed. A researching was performed based on PubMed, including english languages. Any clinical study identified relationship between SBD and TMD were selected in this review. 13 studies were analyzed in this review. According to SBD diagnosis, articles were grouped as follows: polysomnographic diagnosis (n=7), clinical diagnosis (n=2) and survey/self-report (n=4). 12 articles established a positive relation between SBD and TMD and 1 did not. SBD would be associated with protrusion/retrusion degree, myofascial pain, muscular and joint pathology, and other orofacial findings. It was analyzed that the retrusion of the mandible had the significant influence on the severity of the SBD.

Objectives: Although intraoral balancing appliance therapy has been used effective to several diseases, verification studies through cerebral diseases are poorly reported so far. Thus we investigated the effect of tooth-cut induced dental malocclusion against mouse model of ischemic stroke. Methods: Tooth-cut and 90 min middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) were loaded to C57BL/6 male mice, and total infarct area, neurological deficit scores (NDS), histological change of hippocampal region were observed. Production levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in cerebral tissue were also measured. Results: The longer the tooth-cut period, the greater the area of cerebral infarction caused by MCAO, and NDS began to increase as the tooth was cut, and the results were more negative when MCAO was loaded. Histological change of hippocampal cells was significant when tooth-cut was maintained for 7 days. Those damages were thought to depend on the generation of ROS and iNOS in brain tissue. Conclusions: Since tooth-cut increased total area of cerebral infarction due to MCAO in mice, it is able to be confirmed that anomaly of the temporomandibular occlusion can affect neurological diseases.
