Design and Implementation of an Intelligent Medical Expert System for TMA(Tissue Mineral Analysis) (TMA 분석을 위한 지능적 의학 전문가 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • Assesment of 30 nutritional minerals and 8 toxic elements in hair are very important not only for determining adequacy, deficiencies and unbalance, but also for assessing their relative relationships in the body. A test has been developed that serves this purpose exceedingly well. This test is known as tissue mineral analysis(TMA). TMA is very popular method in hair mineral analysis for health care professionals in over 46 countries' medical center. However, there are some problems. First, they do not have database which is suitable for korean to do analyze. Second, as the TMA results from TEI-USA is composed of english documents and graphic files prohibited to open, its usability is very low. Third, some of them has low level database which is related to TMA, so hairs are sent to TEI-USA for analyzing and medical services. it bring about an severe outflow of dollars. Finally, TMA results are based on the database of american health and mineral standards, it is possibly mislead korean mineral standards. The purposes of this research is to develope the first Intelligent Medical Expert System(IMES) of TMA, in Korea, which makes clear the problems mentioned earlier IMES can analyze the tissue mineral data with multiple stage decision tree classifier. It is also constructed with multiple fuzzy rule base and hence analyze the complex data from Korean database by fuzzy inference methods. Pilot test of this systems are increased of business efficiency and business satisfaction 86% and 92% respectively.

  • There are some problems in TMA. There are no databases in Korea which can be independently and specially analyzed the TMA results. Even there are some medical databases, some of them are low level databases which are related to TMA, so they can not serve medical services to patients as well as doctors. Moreover, TMA results are based on the database of american health and mineral standards, it is possibly mislead oriental, especially korean, mineral standards. The purposes of this paper is to develope the first Intelligent TMA Information System(ITS) which makes clear the problems mentioned earlier ITS can analyze TMA data with multiple stage decision tree classifier.   • TMA(Tissue Mineral Analysis) is very popular method in hair mineral analysis for health care professionals in over 48 countries medical center. Assesment of nutritional minerals and toxic elements in the hair is very important not only for determining adequacy, deficiencies and unbalance, but also for assessing their relative relationships in a body. In Korea, there are some problems in TMA method. Because of not haying a medical information database which is suitable for korean to do analyze, the requested TMA has to send to TEI-USA. However, as the TMA results from TEI-USA is composed of English documents and graphic files prohibited to open, its usability is very low and a lot of dollars has to be payed. Also, it can make some problems in the reliability of the TMA results, since the TMA results are based on the database of western health and mineral standards, To solve these problems, I developed the first Medical Information System of TMA in Korea here. The system can analyze the complex tissue mineral data with multiple stage decision tree classifier. It is also constructed with multiple fuzzy database and hence analyze the TMA data by fuzzy inference methods. The effectiveness test of this systems can be shown the increased business efficiency and satisfaction rate 86% and 92% respectively.

The Classification of Metabolic Type Using Tissue Mineral Analysis (모발분석 결과를 이용한 대사형의 분류)

  • We have sent the 1000 hair samples to USA and received the results from USA because the programs for the interpretation of Tissue Mineral Analysis (TMA) result is not opened yet in Korea. Therefore, the study will analyze the relationship between the hair for Korean and minerals and make a classification system. To achieve the goal, first of all, we coded the results of patients and classified the analyzed results which are the interrelationship between the minerals and dietary situation and the heavy metals and diseases through the statistical methods. Finally we classified 8 metabolic type using decision tree classifier.

  • This study was carried out to compare the hair mineral status of obese, over-weighted and non-obese individuals, to gather basic data for customizing menu development and to create an education manual for the obese persons. Food preferences or various disease states could be suggested by different mineral patterns in TMA(tissue mineral analysis). The results indicated that Zn status was considerably lower in the obese individuals than in the non-obese(p<0.001) whereas hair Na(p<0.0001), K(p<0.01) and Fe(p<0.05) were at significantly higher levels in the obese individuals. The ratio of Ca/K(p<0.001) was significantly lower in the obese than in the non-obese. But the levels of hair toxic minerals such as Sb, As, Hb, Al et al. were not differ according to BMI groups. The obtained data demonstrate the changes of hair mineral content in both overweight and obese individuals thus suggesting metabolic mineral disturbance in those groups.

Rabbit maxillary sinus augmentation model with simultaneous implant placement: differential responses to the graft materials

  • Purpose: This study was performed to establish an experimental rabbit model for single-stage maxillary sinus augmentation with simultaneous implant placement. Methods: Twelve mature New Zealand white rabbits were used for the experiments. The rabbit maxillary sinuses were divided into 3 groups according to sinus augmentation materials: blood clot (BC), autogenous bone (AB), and bovine-derived hydroxyapatite (BHA). Small titanium implants were simultaneously placed in the animals during the sinus augmentation procedure. The rabbits were sacrificed 4 and 8 weeks after surgery and were observed histologically. Histomorphometric analyses using image analysis software were also performed to evaluate the parameters related to bone regeneration and implant-bone integration. Results: The BC group showed an evident collapse of the sinus membrane and limited new bone formation around the original sinus floor at 4 and 8 weeks. In the AB group, the sinus membrane was well retained above the implant apex, and new bone formation was significant at both examination periods. The BHA group also showed retention of the elevated sinus membrane above the screw apex and evident new bone formation at both points in time. The total area of the mineral component (TMA) in the area of interest and the bone-to-implant contact did not show any significant differences among all the groups. In the AB group, the TMA had significantly decreased from 4 to 8 weeks. Conclusions: Within the limits of this study, the rabbit sinus model showed satisfactory results in the comparison of different grafting conditions in single-stage sinus floor elevation with simultaneous implant placement. We found that the rabbit model was useful for maxillary sinus augmentation with simultaneous implant placement.
