  • In 1995, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Task Group 43 published a report dealing with the dosimetry of interstitial brachytherapy sources, generally known as the TG-43 report. Compared to previously adopted formalisms, a formalism proposed in this report provides a more accurate and systematic brachytherapy dose calculation method, especially for Ir-192 and other low energy gamma sources such as 1-125 and Pd-l03. In this lecture, an overview of the TG-43 formalism will be presented, along with the lecturer's experience in determining the TG-43 parameters by the Monte Carlo method and experimental methods such as TLD and radiochromic film.

  • The study of the optimal damping ratio of a tuned liquid-column damper (or TLCD) attached to a single-degree-of-freedom system is presented. The tuned liquid-column damper is composed of two vertical columns connected by a horizontal section in the bottom and partially filled with water. The ratio of the length of the horizontal section to the effective wetted length of a TLCD considered as another important parameter is also presented for investigation. A simple pendulum-like model test is conducted to simulate a long-period motion in order to prove the effectiveness of TLCD for vibrational control. Comparisons of the experimental and analytic results of the TLCD, TLD (tuned-liquid damper), and TMD (tuned-mass damper) are included for discussion.

  • This study was performed to find out dose distribution, pdd, surface dose and off center ratio. A few articles is analysis of dose data in radiotherapy field, there is no standardized measure of an assessment of exposure dose at diagnostic radiology, yet. And authors demonstrated a new assessment measure by ion chamber, TLD and film dosimetry system. We assurance that our data is useful to quantiative analysis of exposure dose and clinical fields for reduction of radiation dose.

  • Simple and effectively developed learning control logic is used to control vibration of U type Tuned Liquid Damper system. The purpose of this paper is design optimal control system to deal with unknown errors from nonlinearity and variation that cost modeling difficulty in complex structure and is followed with the desired behavior. Finally this hybrid control method applied to U type Tuned Liquid Damper structure gives the benefit from better performance of precision and stability of the structure by reducing vibration effect. This research leads to safety design in various structure to robust unspecified foreign disturbances such as earthquake.

  • 'Enhanced Cooperation', which was the mandate of Tunis Agenda in 2005, was the product of political compromise after failing to reach a consensus on global internet governance mechanism. In 2012, UN General Assembly decided to establish CSTD 'Working Group on Enhanced Cooperation (WGEC)' to find out what could and should be done to implement the Tunis Agenda. After a first meeting, WGEC sent out a questionnaire to collect extensive opinions from internet communities. Replies to the questionnaire showed a broad spectrum of perspectives on the problem of existing internet governance arrangement and how to improve it. This article analysed different perspectives, based on replies, especially regarding the concept and implementation of the Tunis Agenda, public policy issue and possible mechanisms, and the role of stakeholders including government. The recommendation of WGEC will be submitted to UN GA passing through CSTD and ECOSOC, in 2014, which is expected to have great impact on the future of internet governance.

  • The quasi-exposure rate and the quasi-effective energy of the natural radiation in the field at 47 monitoring points around nuclear power plants have been studied with the pair filter thermoluminescence dosimeter system. The results of the six years observation showed that the relationship between the quasi-exposure rate $X_q$, and quasi-effective energy $E_q$ can be represented as a hyperbolic function: $X_q=A+C/(E_q-B)$, where the constants A and B correspond to the quasi-exposure rate of cosmic-rays and the minimum quasi-effective energy of natural radiation, respectively. Furthermore, the constant A is in close agreement with the values obtained by using ionization chambers and scintillation detectors. The constant B is approximately 0.68 MeV, closely corresponding to the mean energy of the photons emitted from natural uranium.

  • Over the past twenty years, the concept of structural control has been investigated for the application to large civil engineering structures. At the early years, passive control systems, such as tuned mass damper(TMD) and tuned liquid mass bamper(TLD), have been utilized to reduce the wind induced vibrations of tall buildings, decks and pylons of long-span bridges. More recently, the active control concept has been applied to reducing the structural vibration and increasing the human comfortness in tall buildings during strong wind. In this study, the effectiveness of the active tuned mass damper(ATMD) has been investigated for reducing vibration of large structures during strong earthquake. Stochastic optimal control theory has been employed. Example analyses are carried out through analytical simulation studies.

  • Radiation dosimetry has been extended to small fields less than $4\times4cm^2$ which may be suitable for irradiation of small intracranial tumors. Special consideration was given to the percentage depth dose and scatter correction factors with 0.14ml ion chamber, film dosimetry and TLD measurement. Calculated dose distributions were compared with measured data.

  • Purpose: The Ideal breast irradiation method should provide an optimal dose distribution In the treated breast volume and a minimum scatter dose to the nearby normal tissue. Physical wedges have been used to Improve the dose distribution In the treated breast, but unfortunately Introduce an Increased scatter dose outside the treatment yield, pavllculariy to the contralateral breast. The typical physical wedge (FW) was compared with 4he virtual wedge (VW) to do)ermine the difference In the dose distribution affecting on the treated breast and the contralateral breast, lung, heart and surrounding perlpheral soft tissue. Methods and Materials: The data collected consisted of a measurement taken with solid water, a Humanoid Alderson Rando phantom and patients. The radiation doses at the ipsllateral breast and skin, contralateral breast and skin, surrounding peripheral soft tissue, and Ipsllateral lung and heart were compared using the physical wedge and virtual wedge and the radiation dose distribution and DVH of the treated breast were compared. The beam-on time of each treatment technique was also compared Furthermore, the doses at treated breast skin, contralateral breast skin and skin 1.5 cm away from 4he field margin were also measured using TLD in 7 patients of tangential breast Irradiation and compared the results with phantom measurements. Results: The virtual wedge showed a decreased peripheral dose than those of a typical physical wedge at 15$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$, and 60$^{\circ}$. According to the TLD measurements with 15$^{\circ}$ and 30$^{\circ}$ virtual wedge, the Irradiation dose decreased by 1.35$\%$ and 2.55$\%$ In the contralateral breast and by 0.87$\%$ and 1.9$\%$ In the skin of the contralateral breast respectively. Furthermore, the Irradiation dose decreased by 2.7$\%$ and 6.0$\%$ in the Ipsllateral lung and by 0.96$\%$ and 2.5$\%$ in the heart. The VW fields had lower peripheral doses than those of the PW fields by 1.8$\%$ and 2.33$\%$. However the skin dose Increased by 2.4$\%$ and 4.58$\%$ In the Ipsliateral breast. VW fields, In general, use less monitor units than PW fields and shoriened beam-on time about half of PW. The DVH analysis showed that each delivery technique results In comparable dose distribution in treated breast. Conclusion: A modest dose reduction to the surrounding normal tissue and uniform target homogeneity were observed using the VW technique compare to the PW beam in tangential breast Irradiation The VW field is dosmetrically superlor to the PW beam and can be an efficient method for minimizing acute, late radiation morbidity and reduce 4he linear accelerator loading bV decreasing the radiation delivery time.
