The freeze drying rate was investigated under various conditions such as pressure and moisture contents in order to establish the optimum condition for expansion of the culled flue cured tobacco lamina. The optimal pressure in the chamber to maintain the heat and mass transfer was about 0.8torr, When the moisture contents of sample was 50-60%, expanding rate was the optimum condition and the rate was 67-76%. As the thickness of the sample layers was increased, drying-rate was decreased conversely and this result seemed to be due to decline of heat and mass transfer coefficients. Differences with the position of its stalk were also observed in drying rate, and low stalk position leaves of 5 and 3 was the fastest. Key words : freeze drying, Popping, expansion tobacco.

Specific leaf weight (SLW), defined as the mass of tissue per unit leaf area has been found to be an important physiological parameter as it indicates the relative thickness of leaves. Greater SLW provides more photosynthetic potential per unit area of leaf and hence it is frequently been considered as correlated with photosynthesis in several plant species. Collections of 165 mulberry (Morus sp.) germplasm accessions, both Indian and exotic in origin were evaluated for their variability with respect to SLW. The mean specific leaf weight ranged from 35.3 to $72.3 g/m^{-2}$. The distribution of SLW was found to be normal. High heritability (97.08%) and a small difference between genotypic and phenotypic variance demonstrates the genetic control over SLW. Significant heterotic effect with respect to SLW was observed in crosses when parents with high and low SLW were chosen.
The experiment was conducted to determine the effects of enhanced UV-B on growth and differential responses among cultivars in soybean. The soybean cultivars subjected to enhanced UV-B irradiation at daily dose of 11.32 kJ $m^{-2}(UV-B_{BE})$ revealed that the growth was significantly depressed. Plant height, leaf number, leaf area and dry weight were inhibited by UV-B irradiation showing differential responses among cultivars used. Danyeubkong seems to be less sensitive to the enhanced W-B irradiation, while Keunolkong more sensitive. Reduction of chlorophyll content was also found significantly greater to Keunolkong. Specific leaf weight an index of leaf thickness, and flavonoid content known as UV-absorbing compounds were significantly Increased in Danyeubkong by UV-B, but those In the other cultivars were not significantly affected. The results indicated that there are cultivar diferences in tile growth and phisiological responses to the enhanced UV-B irradiation and specific leaf weight and UV-absorbing compounds in the leaves were highly related to the sensitivity of soybean by UV-B irradiation.

The accuracy of the resistive-sheet technique in calculating the RCS(Radar Cross Section) of a deciduous leaf is examined in this paper for various thicknesses and dielectric constants, and a range of thicknesses for the resistive sheet technique is proposed. At first, a leaf was assumed to be a lossy dielectric disk, and the dielectric disk was again assumed to be a resistive sheet with an appropriate resistivity for a given thickness, a dielectric constant, and a frequency. Then, the RCS of the leaf was computed using the physical optics(PO) method, and was compared with the calculation results of a numerical analysis: i.e., a commercial tool based on the FEM (Finite Element Method) technique. It was shown that the error increases as the thickness increases. The error was 0.1 dB, for example, when the thickness is 1.2 mm and 3.7 dB when the thickness is 3 mm with a dielectric constant of(21.4, 9.7) at 9.6 GHz. It was also found that the error decreases as the dielectric constant increases. This study will be very useful for calculating the scattering characteristics of numerous leaves in a vegetation canopy for estimating its radar backscatter using scattering model.

The purpose of this study was to identify strawberry wilt pathogens and evaluate the efficacy of Chlorella fusca CHK0059 for improving plant growth and suppressing Fusarium wilt. We identified 10 isolates of wilt pathogens of non-pesticide Seolhyang strawberry plant, including Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. fragariae, using morphological and molecular analysis. On the 15th day after 0.4% CHK0059 treatment, the plant height of the untreated control strawberry plants was significantly greater than that of the CHK0059-treated strawberry plants. After 85 days, both treatments showed a similar tendency regarding the height of the strawberry plants. However, the thickness of strawberry leaves treated with the CHK0059 was found to be 1 mm thicker than that of the untreated control. The flowering percentage of the CHK0059 plants was also 40.2% higher on average than that of the untreated control. The chlorophyll content of strawberry leaves treated with the CHK0059 was also, on average, 6.63% higher than that of the untreated control. After 90 days of the CHK0059 treatment, the incidence of Fusarium wilt in the CHK0059-treated plants had reduced by 9.8% on average compared to the untreated control. The population density of F. oxysporum f. sp. fragariae was also reduced by approximately 86.8% in the CHK0059-treated plants by comparison to the untreated control at 70 days after treatment. The results indicate that the microalga C. fusca CHK0059 is an efficient biological agent for improving strawberry plant growth and suppressing Fusarium wilt disease in organic strawberries.

Gomchwi using stuffed leaves is many cultivated for 'Gondalbi(Ligularia stenocephala)' among Gomchwi species. 'Gondalbi' species like to be cultivation on farm because of low the incense and the bitter taste, and high yield. But 'Gondalbi' caused to curtail yield that susceptibility of powdery mildew disease and shriveling and death of plant on summer season. To solve this problems, we crossed a Gomchwi and 'Handeari-gomchwi' to have resistance of powdery mildew disease and high yield. A new Gomchwi cultivar 'Jinmani' was bred by crossing between Gomchwi (Ligularia fischeri (Ledeb.) Turcz.) and Handaeri-gomchwi (Ligularia fischeri var. spiciformis Nakai). The selection and investigation of growth and yield characteristics were conducted from 2007 to 2020 in field and greenhouse of Highland Agriculture Research Institute, NICS, Rural Development Administration. The color of petiole ear was purple. trichome of petiole and leaf back non-existed, and luster of leaf back existed. Density of leaf vein was 4 degree among 1-5 degree in a newly developed cultivar 'Jinmani'. Plant height, leaf length, leaf width and petiole length were 55.7, 21.8, 22.2, and 33.9 cm, respectively in the 2nd year of growth characteristics. Plant size was similar with that of 'Gommany'. Bolting and flowering time were Aug. 5 and Sept. 5, respectively, and Bolting and flowering time of 'Gommany' showed similar to Aug. 8 and Sept. 1, respectively. 'Jinmani' showed higher number of leaves (202 ea.) per plant compared to 'Gommany' (159 ea.). Furthermore, yield was 67.9% higher in 'Jinmani' (2,569 g/plant) than in 'Gommany' (1,530 g/plant). 'Jinmani' showed lower leaf thickness (0.66mm) than 'Gommany' (0.69 mm), and consequently showed more hardness in leaf characteristics (25.1 kg/2) compared to 'Gommany' (24.3kg/cm2). 'Jinmani' showed similar strong resistance compared to 'Gommany' in the susceptibility of powdery mildew disease.

Common Buckwheat is a crop with high nutritional value due to its high protein, magnesium, iron, and vitamin content, as well as excellent rutin and quercetin content. This study was conducted to investigate the main agricultural characteristics of common buckwheat genetic sources and use them as basic data for establishing cultivation technology and fostering new varieties. The seeds were planted in the research field of Chungbuk National University on 24th April, 2022 maintained at 15 × 20 cm planting spaces. To evaluate the genetic diversity and morphological traits of buckwheat, different kinds of qualitative and quantitative traits were investigated of the 50 varieties. The germination percentage of common buckwheat showed more than 85% that also showed the uniform germination. During the flowering period, all varieties bloomed within six days from June 18 to 23. The leaves color of common buckwheat were all dark green, and most of the stem colors were mixed with light green, light red, red, and crimson. The leaves of common buckwheat were mainly heart-shaped, and most of the flowers were white. The leaf length was 65.78 to 40.53 mm, and the width was 74.42 mm to 39.74 mm. The stem thickness was between 3.5 and 3.76 mm and the length was between 97.3 cm and 40.24 cm.
Cytological investigation was done on a tetraploid tree of Robinia pseudoacacia L. selected in the planted forest in Chilbo Mountain. From the results of observation of chromosomes on mitotic metaphase in leaves, it was confirmed that the mutant is tetraploid plant (2n=40). The external form of leaves of the spontaneous tetraploid was gigantic and dark green one in comparison with diploid. There was no difference in the size of guard cell and the number of stomata per unit area between the mutant and the diploid plant, however, length and thickness of wood fiber were increased as compared with that of diploid. The spontaneous gigas tetraploid showed growth performance as much as the colchicine induced gigas tetraploid.
The effects of abscisic acid(ABA) spraying for 12 weeks on the stomatal types and frequencies of O. malacophyllus leaves were summarized as follows. ABA inhibited the growth of O. malacophyllus. The prominent effect of ABA on the epidermal structure was the promotion of senescence such as thickness of cell walls, smooth sinuosity of cell walls, and large size of epidermal cells. The stomatal frequency was decreased to 23% by 10$\mu\textrm{g}$ ml-1 ABA and to 48% by 100$\mu\textrm{g}$ml-1, and also the stomatal size was more or less smaller than that of control. The developing secondary stomatal mother cell was not found in both 10 and 100$\mu\textrm{g}$ml-1ABA, but the arrested secondary stomatal mother cell was rarely found in 10$\mu\textrm{g}$ ml-1 ABA. The formation of normal stomatal types such as helico-eumesogenous and aniso-eumesogenous was found in both 10 and 100 $\mu\textrm{g}$ ml-1 ABA asin well as control. Also nine abnormal stomatal types were found, and the frequencies were promoted to 6% by 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$ ml-1 ABA and to 17% by 100 $\mu\textrm{g}$ ml-1 ABA. Among these abnomal stomata, four types such as aborted stomata, single-aborted guard cells, arrested stomata, and modified stomatal complexes were found in control as well as in 10 and 100 $\mu\textrm{g}$ ml-1 ABA, but five types such as wrenched stomata, unequal stomata, wavy guard cells, guard cells overlapped by guard cells, and dissolved cell wall stomata were found in both 10 and 100 $\mu\textrm{g}$ ml-1ABA. The modified stomata complexes were abnormal stomatal types which were newly found and also were varied in types.
The genus Prunus (family: Rosaceae) consists of over 400 plant species and exhibits vast biodiversity worldwide. Given the wide distribution of this genus, its taxonomic classification is important. Anatomical characteristics are conserved and stable and can therefore be used as an important tool for the taxonomic characterization of plants. Therefore, this study aimed to assess and document the anatomical characteristics of the leaf, stem, and seed of P. africana using micrographs and photographs for possible use in the identification, quality control, and phylogenetic analysis of the species. The anatomical sections of a young stem revealed a cortex consisting of isodiametric parenchyma cells, druse crystals, primary vascular bundles, and pith. The mature stem bark majorly consisted of the rhytidome, with the periderm densely arranged in multiple layers; a cluster of stone cells; and sclerenchyma. The leaf sections were hypostomatic, with stomata sizes ranging from 18.90-(22.34)-26.90 × 15.41-(18.40)-21.22 ㎛. The leaf sections showed the presence of characteristic druse crystals, vascular bundles, and mesophyll layers. The pericarp contained the epicarp, mesocarp, and endocarp, with their thickness being approximately 350-400, 300-350, and 30-50 ㎛, respectively. In addition, it contained a seed testa with a thickness of approximately 50-60 ㎛. The morphological and anatomical characteristics observed in P. africana leaves, stems, and seeds in this study could serve as useful data for the taxonomic identification of this species.
