  • The higher mode cutoff frequencies in Crawford TEM cells computed by the Galerkin method(GM) describe in this paper. The authors also report the half mode boundaries to solve not only the cut-off frequencies of symmetric TEM cells and those of asymmetric TEM cells. It is shown that the measured resonant frequencies of the present symmetric TEM cells and a designed asymmetric TEM cell are agreed with the calculated results.

  • Design of W-band TE10 to TEM mode converter for radial power combiner is proposed in this paper. The proposed structure is used with generally available pin to realize TEM mode and is designed to convert TE10 to TEM mode gradually using 2-step impedance transformer and back short. The pin of proposed mode converter is well bonded to the housing so that environment conditions such as vibration or shock are not affected. The proposed mode converter, in a back-to-back configuration, has less than 1.55 dB insertion loss and more than 10 dB return loss from 92.5 GHz to 97.7 GHz. Proposed converter is expected compact radar and various applications requiring for high power and stable environment conditions.

  • Md:YAG laser has been used in many applications such as micromachining, nonlinear optical experiments, holography, and rangefinding. These applications quite often require operation of the laser at the $TEM_{00}$ mode since this mode produces the smallest beam divergence, the highest power density, and, hence, the highest brightness. In this study, a pinhole is put between a rod and a half mirror to make the $TEM_{00}$ mode, and then we measured the intensity distribution of the output beam as reducing the diameter of the pinhole from 6mm to 1.5mm. As a result, the optimum size of the pinhole fixed in a resonator to make the $TEM_{00}$ mode was obtained, and we found out that the output beam of the pulsed Nd:YAG laser with a single elliptical cavity has a Gaussian distribution.

  • A duplexer filter operating at 1.9 GHz band for personal communication system is designed and fabricated using $lambada$/4 TEM mode dielectric resonator. The transmitting band pass filter is designed in the type of the elliptic function band rejection filter by 3 dielectric resonators with 5 additional capacitors and 3 inductors. The receiving band pass filter is designed by 3 dielectric resonators with 5 additional capacitors which give additional series resonance. The parameters which are evaluated by design theory are practically applied to the duplexer filter construction and the simulation.

  • A rectangular coaxial line is mainly utilized as a transition structure from a coaxial line to a rectangular waveguide. A TEM cell is also widely used to measure the EMC characteristics of a DUT. In order to understand the operations of a rectangular coaxial line and a TEM cell, it is essential to analyze the dispersion relations of a rectangular coaxial line and a TEM cell. In this paper, we present simple yet accurate dispersion relations of the TE and TM higher modes based on the TEM mode. Manipulating a mode-matching technique and a Green's function approach allows us to obtain the analytic dispersion equations of a rectangular coaxial line and a TEM cell. In our approach, a rectangular coaxial line is divided into four L-blocks and its electromagnetic fields representations are easily obtained with a superposition. To verify the convergence of our dispersion relations, we perform numerical computations and compare our results with those of FDTD.

  • This paper introduces a simple new procedure approach to determine the permittivity of dielectric slabs. The method uses a parallel plate waveguide which supports a TEM mode. The presence of the dielectric slab placed at the bottom of the waveguide makes the speed of the TEM wave slower. The relationship between the change of the speed and the permittivity of the dielectric slab allows the determination of the permittivity. The relationship is analyzed electromagnetically, and the results of measurements are in good agreement with the analysis.

  • By noticing that most waveguide devices were connected to power source through coaxial line, three dimentional finite element analysis using TEM mode incident was tried. When tEM mode was used, being dissimilar to TE$_{10}$ mode incident, analysis model of TEM mode incident has almost the same geometry with real products. Therefore, the degree of trust about analysis result is improved. Reflection coefficients of coaxial line, W/G adaptor, magnetron obtained by simulation was compared with experimental results.

  • The cylindrical TEM mode solution for electromagnetic coupling to an angled two-wire transmission line is corrected by imposing some physical constraints additionally. The validity of the correction process is assured by showing that the corrected solution approaches the numerical result for the equivalent model of cascaded piecewise uniform sections.

  • The normal mode parameters of microstrip coupled lines are datermined from the self and mutual capacitance and inductance of microstrip lines. In this paper, these capacitance are computed by using the relaxation method based on Quas1-TEM model for shoelded structure. Using these results, the normal mode parameters of two and three microstrip coupled lines are obtained.

  • The transverse electromagnetic (TEM) cells are widely used for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing and field probe calibrations. We propose the verification of TEM mode with statistical method using a four-port TEM cell. The verification results are compared with Normal, Rayleigh, and Gamma distribution. As a result, the 75 % quantile of the Rayleigh distribution is excellent agreement with the true quantiles for a number of calibration points.
