  • TCP assumes that packet loss is always happened by congestionlike wired networks because is can not distinguish between congestion loss and transmission error loss,. This assumption results in unnecessary TCP performance degradation in wireless networks by reducing sender's congestion window size and retransmitting the lost packets. Also, repeated retransmissions loed to waste the limited battery power of mobile devices. In this paper, we propose the new congestion control scheme that add the algorithms monitoring networks states and the algorithms preventing congestion to improve TCP throughput performance and energy efficiency in wireless ad-hoc networks. Using NS2, we showd our scheme improved throughput performance and energy efficiency.

  • As today's networks evolve towards an If-based integrated network, the role of transmission control protocol(TCP) has been increasing as well. As a well-known issue, the performance of TCP is affected by its loss recovery mechanism that is comprised of two algorithms; fast retransmit and fast recovery. Although retransmission timeout(RTO) caused by multiple packet losses can be avoided by using selective acknowledgement(SACK) option, RTO cannot be avoided if a retransmitted packet is lost. Therefore, we propose a simple modification to make it possible for a TCP sender using SACK option to detect a lost retransmission. In order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, simulations have been performed for two scenarios where packet losses are random and correlated. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can improve TCP performance significantly.

  • A new TCP protocol can succeed for large bandwidth delay product when it meets network bandwidth utilization efficiency and fair sharing. We introduce a novel congestion control algorithm which employs queueing delay information in order to calculate the amount of congestion window increment in increase phase, and reduces congestion window to optimal estimated bound as packet loss occurs. Combination of such methods guarantees that the proposal utilizes fully network bandwidth, recovers quickly from packet loss in wireless link, and preserves fairness for competing flows mixed short RTT and long RTT. Our simulations show that features of the proposed TCP meet the desired requirements.

  • Recently, network component become to follow wireless and mobile network from wired network proposed that many TCP algorithm optimized in variety environment. When TCP was created, however as it was design based on wired link, wireless link made more transmission error than wired link. Transmission errors are more frequent and may be incorrectly regarded as indications of network congestion. In this paper, it conduct how effect congestion control algorithm in Mobile ad-hoc network and compare traffic of TCP-Tahoe, TCP-Reno, TCP-New-Reno and TCP-Vegas in Mobile ad-hoc environment.

  • With the development of wireless data communication technology, all IP-based network will become compositions of wired and wireless networks. TCP is a connection-oriented, reliable transport protocol and has been used as de facto standard in most wired networks. Because TCP's congestion control algorithm could not distinguish congestion from BER, link failure and frequent route changes, TCP shows a poor performance over mobile ad-hoc networks. In this paper, the theoretical feature of TCP was studied and the performance of TCP over mobile ad-hoc networks was analyzed with ns2.

  • In this paper, we introduce a multipath congestion control algorithm for audio/video streaming, called MPSQRT. MPSQRT is derived from single-path Square-Root TCP (SQRT TCP) designed for multimedia streaming, where a lower variation of sending rate is important. Based on the fluid model of SQRT for single-path, we extend it towards spreading concurrently packets across multiple paths ensuring load-balancing and fairness to SQRT at shared bottleneck. Through simulations, we evaluate the proposed protocol under various network conditions.

  • In this paper, in order to improve the performance of TCP short traffic application services in wireless Internet environments, the Split-ACKs (SPACK) scheme is proposed. In wireless networks, unlike wired networks, packet losses will occur more often due to high bit error rates. Therefore, each packet loss over wireless lints results in congestion control procedure of TCP being invoked at the source. This causes severe end-to-end Performance degradation of TCP. In this paper, to alleviate the TCP Performance, the SPACK method, split acknowledgement Packets in the base station, is proposed. Using computer simulation, the performance of TCP using SPACK is analysed and shows better performance than traditional TCP Protocol.

  • The ABR(available bit rate) service has been developed to support data application over ATM(asynchronous Transfer mode) networks, and TCP is the most widely used transport layer protocol in existing data networks. Thus, the performance improvement of TCP over ABR is an issue of cardinal importance. In this paper, we propose algorithm of the adjustment of congestion window size utilizing RM(resource Management) cell information. The motivation is to use more reliable information in ER(explicit rate) field within RM cell to determine TCP window size. Simulations are performance using the suggested algorithm is improved, as compared to TCP-reno.

  • With the widespread of the wireless Internet and wireless LAN, different wireless technologies such as 3G cellular networks and WLAN will cooperate to support more users and applications with higher data rate over wider areas. When a mobile node moves around in the hybrid networks, it needs to perform seamless vertical handoffs between different wireless networks to provide high performance data transmission. When an application with TCP connection in a mobile node performs a vertical handoff, TCP performance is degraded due to packet losses even though it maintains the previous TCP state information during handoff, because 3G and WLAN have different available bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a new congestion control algorithm for vertical handoff to improve the TCP performance by measuring the rough end-to-end available bandwidth and calculating the slow-start threshold. By ns-2 simulation, we show that the proposed algorithm enhances the TCP performance during vertical handoffs compared to the previous algorithms.

  • Active queue management (AQM) refers to a family of packet dropping mechanisms for router queues that has been proposed to support end-to-end congestion control mechanisms in the Internet. The proposed AQM algorithm by the IETF is Random Early Detection (RED). The RED algorithm allows network operators simultaneously to achieve high throughput and low average delay. However. the resulting average queue length is quite sensitive to the level of congestion. In this paper, we propose the Refined Adaptive RED(RARED), as a solution for reducing the sensitivity to parameters that affect RED performance. Based on simulations, we observe that the RARED scheme improves overall performance of the network. In particular, the RARED scheme reduces packet drop rate and improves goodput.
