As today's networks evolve towards an If-based integrated network, the role of transmission control protocol(TCP) has been increasing as well. As a well-known issue, the performance of TCP is affected by its loss recovery mechanism that is comprised of two algorithms; fast retransmit and fast recovery. Although retransmission timeout(RTO) caused by multiple packet losses can be avoided by using selective acknowledgement(SACK) option, RTO cannot be avoided if a retransmitted packet is lost. Therefore, we propose a simple modification to make it possible for a TCP sender using SACK option to detect a lost retransmission. In order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, simulations have been performed for two scenarios where packet losses are random and correlated. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can improve TCP performance significantly.

Satellite communication is a wide area network (WAN) which provides communication service worldwide. However, the performance of TCP can be seriously degraded in the satellite networks due to limited bandwidth, long round-trip time (RTT) and high bit error rate (BER) over satellite links. In order to improve the performance of TCP, this paper proposes cross-layer Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) in digital video broadcasting-return channel via satellite (DVB-RCS) networks. The proposed protocol sets TCP Congestion Window (CWND) size by using satellite resource allocation information exchanged between TCP and the link-layer. we implement PEP testbed based on Linux to evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol performs better than standard TCP both in single and multiple sessions in variant BER, because the proposed protocol sets TCP CWND size by using satellite resource allocation.

Recently, due to the high development of the internet, needs for multimedia streams such as digital audio and video is increasing much more. In case of transmitting multimedia streams using the User Datagram Protocol (UDP), it may cause starvation of TCP traffic on the same transmission path, thus resulting in congestion collapse and enormous delay because UDP does not perform TCP-like congestion control. Because of this problem, diverse researches are being conducted on new transmission schemes and protocols intended to efficiently reduce the transmission delay of real-time multimedia streams and perform congestion control. The TCP-friendly congestion control schemes can be classified into the window-based congestion control, which uses the general congestion window management function, and the rate-based congestion control, which dynamically adjusts transmission rate by using TCP modeling equations and the like. In this paper, we suggest the square-root congestion avoidance algorithm with the hybrid TCP-friendly congestion control scheme which the window-based and rate-based congestion controls are dealt with in a combined way. We apply the proposed algorithm to the existing TEAR. We simulate the performance of the proposed TEAR by using NS, and the result shows that it gives better improvement in the stability needed for providing congestion control than the existing TEAR.

Recently, the growth of applications and services over high-speed Internet increase, ATM networks as wide area back-bone has been a major solution. The conventional TCP suite is still the standard protocol used to support upper application on current Internet and uses a window based protocol for flow control in the transport layer. When TCP data uses the UBR service in ATM layer, the control method is also buffer management. If a cell is discarded in ATM layer. one whole packet of TCP will be lost. Which is responsible for most TCP performance degradation and do not offer sufficiently QoS. To solve this problem, Several dropping strategies, such as Tail Drop, EPD, PPO, SPD, FBA, have been proposed to improve the TCP performance over ATM. In this paper, to improve the TCP fairness of end to end, we propose a packet dropping scheme algorithm using two fixed threshold. Under similar condition, we compared our proposed scheme with other dropping strategies. Although the number of VC is increased, simulation results showed that the proposed scheme can allocate more fairly each VC than other schemes.

In this paper, We report on the performance issues faced by TCP based applications on satellite link having long propagation delay and high probability of bit erros and propose ENA(Error Notification Ack) algorithm for TCP Performance Enhancement. TCP Protocol cannot distinguish errored segments(in noisy medium) from losses of genuine network congestion and react as if there is network congestion. Therefore, Slow Start and Congestion avoidance mechanism are initiated. It happen this case in satellite link. Therefore it reduce the transmission rate and drop the performance. So, in this paper We propose ENA algorithm which is distinguished errored segments from losses of network congestion. And We propose the method of algorithm's implementation. And We evaluate the Performance of Tahoe, Reno, Sack TCP with ENA. As results, TCP Performance is better.

A packet loss caused TCP segment drop and retransmission. This makes the energy useless, which is consumed to deliver the whole packets of the dropped segment over many hops. In this paper, end-to-end TCP retramission will be analyzed for the effect to energy consumed for delivering data. Especially, this paper will compare and analyze the legacy TCP method and Store-and-Forward method, and the method of computing the energy efficiency to transmission loss. This paper expects that the proposed method can contribute to new energy saving decision or algorithm on diverse data transmission situation.

Wireless communication environment is changing rapidly as we use new wireless communication technology such as WiBro to access high speed Internet. As a result, reliable data transmission using TCP is also expected to increase. Since TCP assumes that it is used in wired network, TCP suffers significant performance degradation over wireless network where packet losses are related to non-congestion loss. Especially RTO imposes a great performance degradation of TCP. In this paper, we analyze the loss recovery probabilities based on previous researches, and use simulation results of our algorithm to show that it prevents performance degradation by quickly detecting and recovery losses without RTO during fast recovery.

The differentiated services(DiffServ) architecture provides packet level service differentiation through the simple and predefined Per-Hop Behaviors(PHBs). The Assured Forwarding(AF) PHB proposed as the assured services uses the RED-in/out(RIO) approach to ensusre the expected capacity specified by the service profile. However, the AF PHB fails to give good QoS and fairness to the TCP flows. This is because OUT(out- of-profile) packet droppings at the RIO buffer are unfair and sporadic during only network congestion while the TCP's congestion control algorithm works with a different round trip time(RTT). In this paper, we propose an Adaptive Regulating Drop(ARD) marker, as a novel dropping strategy at the ingressive edge router, to improve TCP fairness in assured services without a decrease in the link utilization. To drop packets pertinently, the ARD marker adaptively changes a Temporary Permitted Rate(TPR) for aggregate TCP flows. To reduce the excessive use of greedy TCP flows by notifying droppings of their IN packets constantly to them without a decrease in the link utilization, according to the TPR, the ARD marker performs random early fair remarking and dropping of their excessive IN packets at the aggregate flow level. Thus, the throughput of a TCP flow no more depends on only the sporadic and unfair OUT packet droppings at the RIO buffer in the core router. Then, the ARD marker regulates the packet transmission rate of each TCP flow to the contract rate by increasing TCP fairness, without a decrease in the link utilization.

Abstract Scaffold used as a carrier of the cell has been actively conducted using plenty of technology in tissue engineering. ${\beta}$-tricalcium phosphate (${\beta}$-TCP) material has shown good biocompatibility and osteoconductive ability when it was implanted as a bone graft substitute in osseous defect in human and animal studies for bone regeneration. In this study, we fabricated the blended polycaprolactone (PCL) and ${\beta}$-TCP scaffold by the polymer deposition system (PDS). The PCL/${\beta}$-TCP scaffold was fabricated at a temperature of $110^{\circ}C$, pressure of 650 kPa, and scan velocity of 100 mm/sec. The Overall geometry and size of the scaffold were fixed circle type with a diameter of 10 mm and a height of 4 mm. PCL/${\beta}$-TCP scaffold was observed by scanning electron microscopy. Cell attachment and proliferation of the scaffold containing 30 wt% ${\beta}$-TCP was superior to those containing 10 wt% and 20 wt% ${\beta}$-TCP.

Due to the prevalence of powerful mobile terminals and the rapid advancements in wireless communication technologies, the wireless video streaming service has become increasingly more popular. Recent studies show that video streaming services via Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) are becoming more practical. TCP has more advantages than User Diagram Protocol (UDP), including firewall traversal, bandwidth fairness, and reliability. However, each video service shares an equal portion of the limited bandwidth because of the fair sharing characteristics inherent in TCP and this bandwidth fair sharing cannot always guarantee the video quality for each user. To solve this challenging problem, an Adaptive Multiple TCP (AM-TCP) scheme is proposed in this paper to guarantee the video quality for mobile devices in wireless networks. AM-TCP adaptively controls the number of TCP connections according to the video Rate Distortion (RD) characteristics of each stream and network status. The proposed scheme can minimize the total distortion of all participating video streams and maximize the service quality by guaranteeing the quality of each video streaming session. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can significantly improve the quality of video streaming in wireless networks.
