With the on-going wireless access technologies, the Internet has become accessible anytime anywhere. In wireless networks, link errors significantly degrade the performance of the transmission control protocol (TCP). To cope with this issue, this paper improves the recently-proposed terrestrial REFWA (T-REFWA) scheme by adding a new error recovery mechanism to its original design. In the T-REFWA scheme, senders are acknowledged with appropriate sending rates at which an efficient and fair utilization of network resources can be achieved. As the feedback values are computed independently of link errors, senders can keep transmitting data at high rates even in case of link error occurrences. Using this feature, the proposed error recovery mechanism can achieve high throughput in environments with high bit error rates. The throughput is further improved by disabling the exponential back-off algorithm of TCP so that long idle times are avoided in case of link errors. We show through simulations that the proposed method improves TCP performance in high bit error rates. Compared with several TCP variants, the proposed error recovery scheme exhibits higher link utilization and guarantees system fairness for different bit error rates.
TCP(Transmission Control Protocol) is currently used connection-oriented protocol as a typical transport layer protocol in the Internet. However, it has deficiency not be able to communicate with other TCP entities when any link included in the path is down because of single-homing on single path. SCTP(Stream Control Transmission Protocol) suggested as the new transport layer protocol supports multi-homing feature, which provides several paths between source and destination. It can communicate with other SCTP entities using alternate path even when any link on the primary path is down. This paper aims to measure and analyze the multi-homing effect of SCTP over TCP in case of link-down using NS-2 simulator. We classify SCTP into $SCTP_{single-homing}$ and $SCTP_{multi-homing}$ because SCTP with single-homing can also be used like TCP. We measured throughput and bandwidth utilization varying link-down duration, bandwidth, and RTT(round trip time), Simulation results show that throughput of $SCTP_{multi-homing}$ is more than that of TCP by 18 % on average. It is also shown that $SCTP_{multi-homing}$ on varying RTT and bandwidth increases the throughput of TCP by 'l7% and 9% on average, respectively in the link-down environment. In above cases, more or less difference between $SCTP_{single-homing}$ and TCP on throughput and bandwidth utilization was found To summarize, multi-homing effect of SCTP over TCP on throughput is about 18 % on average in the link-down environment This experimental result can be used as the benchmark in order to estimate the multi-homing effect of SCTP over TCP when the link-down happens in the real Internet.

Recently, the bandwidth available to an end user has been dramatically increasing with the advancing of network technologies. This high-speed network naturally requires faster and/or stable data transmission techniques. The UDT(UDP based Data Transfer protocol) is a UDP based transport protocol, and shows more efficient throughput than TCP in the long RTT environment, with benefit of rate control for a SYN time. With a NAK event, however, it is difficult to expect an optimum performance due to the increase of fixed sendInterval and the flow control based on the previous RTT. This paper proposes a rate control method on following a NAK, by adjusting the sendInterval according to some degree of RTT period which calculated from a set of experimental results. In addition, it suggests an improved flow control method based on the TCP vegas, in order to predict the network congestion afterward. An experimental results show that the revised flow control method improves UDT's throughput about 20Mbps. With combining the rate control and flow control proposed, the UDT throughput can be improved up to 26Mbps in average.

A high assurance IP encryption (HAIPE) compliant protocol accelerator is proposed for military networks consisting of red (or classified) networks and black (or unclassified) networks. The boundary between red and black sides is assumed to be protected via a HAIPE device. However, the IP layer encryption introduces challenges for bandwidth on demand satellite communication. The problems experienced by transmission control protocol (TCP) over satellites are well understood: While standard modems (on the black side) employ TCP performance enhancing proxy (PEP) which has been shown to work well, the HAIPE encryption of TCP headers renders the onboard modem's PEP ineffective. This is attributed to the fact that under the bandwidth-on-demand environment, PEP must use traditional TCP mechanisms such as slow start to probe for the available bandwidth of the link (which eliminates the usefulness of the PEP). Most implementations recommend disabling the PEP when a HAIPE device is used. In this paper, we propose a novel solution, namely broadband HAIPE-embeddable satellite communications terminal (BHeST), which utilizes dynamic network performance enhancement algorithms for high latency bandwidth-on-demand satellite links protected by HAIPE. By moving the PEP into the red network and exploiting the explicit congestion notification bypass mechanism allowed by the latest HAIPE standard, we have been able to regain PEP's desired network enhancement that was lost due to HAIPE encryption (even though the idea of deploying PEP at the modem side is not new). Our BHeST solution employs direct video broadcast-return channel service (DVB-RCS), an open standard as a means of providing bandwidth-on-demand satellite links. Another issue we address is the estimation of current satellite bandwidth allocated to a remote terminal which is not available in DVBRCS. Simulation results show that the improvement of our solution over FIX PEP is significant and could reach up to 100%. The improvement over the original TCP is even more (up to 500% for certain configurations).
This paper presents some studies on the Internet TCP/IP(Transmission Control Protocol-Internet Protocol) traffic over ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) UBR(Unspecified Bit Rate) and ABR(Available Bit Rate) classes of service. Fuzzy logic prediction has been used to improve the efficiency and fairness of traffic throughput. For TCP/IP over UBR, a novel fuzzy logic based cell dropping scheme is presented. This is referred to as fuzzy logic selective cell drop (FSCD). A key feature of the scheme is its ability to accept or drop a new incoming packet dynamically based on the predicted future buffer condition in the switch. This is achieved by using fuzzy logic prediction for the production of a drop factor. Packet dropping decision is then based on this drop factor and a predefined threshold value. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme significantly improves TCP/IP efficiency and fairness. To study TCP/IP over ABR, we applied the fuzzy logic ABR service buffer management scheme from our previous work to both approximate and exact fair rate computation ER(Explicit cell Rate) switch algorithms. We then compared the performance of the fuzzy logic control with conventional schemes. Simulation results show that on zero TCP packet loss, the fuzzy logic control scheme achieves maximum efficiency and perfect fairness with a smaller buffer size. When mixed with VBR traffic, the fuzzy logic control scheme achieves higher efficiency with lower cell loss.

The performance of transmission control protocol (TCP) is largely dependent upon its loss recovery. Therefore, it is a very important issue whether the packet losses may be recovered without retransmission timeout (RTO) or not. Although TCP SACK can recover multiple packet losses in a window, it cannot avoid RTO if a retransmitted packet is lost again. In order to alleviate this problem, we propose a simple change to TCP SACK, which is called TCP SACK+ in simple. We use a stochastic model to evaluate the performance of TCP SACK+, and compare it with TCP SACK. Numerical results evaluated by simulations show that SACK+ can improve the loss recovery of TCP SACK significantly in presence of random losses.
Multicast protocols are efficient methods of group communication such as video conference, Internet broadcasting and On-Line Game, but they do not support the various transmission protocol services like a reliability guarantee, FTP, or Telnet that TCPs do. The Purpose or this Paper is to find a method to utilize multicast routers can simultaneously transport multicast packets and TCP packets. For multicast network scalability and error recovery the existing SRM(Scalable Reliable Multicast)method has been used. Three packets per TCP transmission control window site are used for transport and an ACK is used for flow control. A CBR(Constant Bit Rate) and a SRM is used for UDP traffic control. Divided on whether a UDP multicast packet and TCP unicast packet is used simultaneously or only a UDP multicast packet transport is used, the multicast receiver with the longest delay is measured on the number of packets and its data receiving rate. It can be seen that the UDP packet and the TCP's IP packet can be simultaneously used in a server router.

In this paper, the structural design of optical Internet is analyzed and by using UNI (User Network Interface) signaling protocol an optical transmission experiment was performed. The hierarchical structure of the basic optical Internet consists of the backbone network, the service network and the access network. The necessary functions for each layer were described as follows: Control structure of the optical transport layer, network operation and management structure, internetworking technology of sub networks, routing and signaling technology. By using UNI signaling protocol from OIF (Optical Internetworking Forum), the optical transmission in the proposed structure of the optical Internet network was experimented. By the traffic generation of LSP (Label Switched Path) data packets along the route-configuration was delivered to UNI. Finally, by showing the value of TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) packets the optical transmission was completely and successfully demonstrated.
As internet streaming data increase, transport protocol such as TCP, TGP-Friendly is important to study control transmission rate and share of Internet bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a TCP-Friendly protocol using Neural Network for media delivery over wired Internet which has various traffic size(PTFRC). PTFRC can effectively send streaming data when occur congestion and predict one-step ahead round trip time and packet loss rate. A multi-layer perceptron structure is used as the prediction model, and the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is used as a traning algorithm. The performance of the PTFRC was evaluated by the share of Bandwidth and packet loss rate with various protocols.

본 논문에서는 802.11을 기반으로 한 무선 링크에서 인터넷 상의 대표적인 전송계층 프로토콜인 TCP(Transmission Control Protocol)와 HDP(User Datagram Protocol)의 성능을 비교한다.
