  • In this study, research was conducted into the manufacture of thermally expandable microspheres for automotive underbody coatings and applications in industry. In particular, the relationship between heat resistance and the ratio of crosslinking agents and initiators in the manufacture of the thermally expandable microspheres was investigated. We focused on the results with various cross-linking agents; our aim was to make the walls of the microspheres thicker to solve the problem of reductions in size caused by shrinkage when the microspheres are heated to $T_m$ ($T_{max}$). We observed the sectional thickness and surface of the samples with thicker walls. The thick thermally expandable microspheres showed reduced shrinkage and excellent stability in spite of prolonged exposure to heat.

  • This paper proposes thermometer-code latches having five and six transistors for unidirectional and bidirectional thermometer-code shift-registers, respectively. The proposed latches omit the set and reset transistors by changing from two supply voltage nodes to the set and reset signals in the cross-coupled inverter. They set or reset the data by changing the supply voltage to ground in either of two inverters. They reduce the number of transistors to five and six compared with the conventional thermometer-code latches having six and eight transistors, respectively. The proposed thermometer-code latches were simulated using a 65 nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) process. For comparison, the proposed and conventional latches are adapted to the 64 bit thermometer-code shift-registers. The proposed unidirectional and bidirectional shift-registers occupy 140 ㎛2 and 197 ㎛2, respectively. Their consumption powers are 4.6 ㎼ and 5.3 ㎼ at a 100 MHz clock frequency with the supply voltage of 1.2 V. They decrease the areas by 16% and 13% compared with the conventional thermometer-code shift-register.

  • Using random numbers to represent uncertainty and unpredictability is essential in many industries. This is crucial in disciplines like computer science, cryptography, and statistics where the use of randomness helps to guarantee the security and dependability of systems and procedures. In computer science, random number generation is used to generate passwords, keys, and other security tokens as well as to add randomness to algorithms and simulations. According to recent research, the hardware random number generators used in billions of Internet of Things devices do not produce enough entropy. This article describes how raw data gathered by IoT system sensors can be used to generate random numbers for cryptography systems and also examines the results of these random numbers. The results obtained have been validated by successfully passing the FIPS 140-1 and NIST 800-22 test suites.

  • By analyzing the structure of the currently used Lead Tab tape structure, the outermost layer, low-temperature fusion functionalized olefin, was composed of pp base. To determine whether this could be used as the outermost layer of tab tape, the adhesive strength to metal foils such as copper and aluminum was measured and the adhesive strength was compared with commercially available functionalized olefin. When chlorine was grafted onto PP among the PP used in the composition, the average adhesive strength was similar to that of commercially available LT200T and superior to RE140R and LE320V. The maximum adhesive strength exceeded that of LE200T. When it comes to solvents, xylene has been shown to be better than any other. Physical methods such as substitution of other monomers, switching of additives or let-down hardly changed the adhesion of grafted PP, and the selection of PP is an important factor in preparing functional polymers.

  • The floating ring seal which is used in the high pressure turbo pump is frequently used in the oxidizer pump and the fuel pump of the turbo pump of the liquid propulsion rocket, because it is able to minimize clearance to decrease the leakage flow rate. But, the floating ring seal has a tendency to increase instability in decreasing eccentricity ratio. To complement this weakness, it is devised bump floating ring seal which is inserted bump in the outer surface. It has various experiment results. But the theoretical study of the bump floating ring seal didn't investigated yet. In this paper, we analyse about static characteristics of bump floating ring seal, compared previous experimental results. To analyze the characteristic of bump floating ring seal, we coupled perturbation method of floating ring seal and FEM of bump foil.

  • A shell-and-tube oil cooler with plate fins was suggested to improve the defect of the conventional shell-and-tube oil cooler. Experiments were conducted to evaluate the heat transfer performance on the shell side of shell-and-plate finned tube oil cooler with three different tube numbers(9, 13 and 19). Oil flowing on the shell side was cooled by cold water flowing inside the tubes. A shell-and-tube heat exchanger of an oil cooler consisted of one shell pass and two tube passes with the inner tube diameter of 8.82 mm and the tube length of 575 mm. From the experiment of shell-and-tube oil cooler, it was found that the heat transfer coefficient of oil cooler with 9 tubes, as oil flow rate was increased, was approximately 140% and 250% higher than that of 13 and 19 tubes, respectively. The heat transfer coefficient at the water flow rate of $3m^3/h$, also was 120% and 140% higher than that of 2.4 and $1.8m^3/h$, respectively.

  • The present study deals with the determination of optimal values of operating parameters such as the temperature of heating, the mass of the plant material and the volume of water leading to the best yield of electromagnetic induction (EMI) heating extraction of Algerian Thymus fontanesii essential oil. After an appropriate choice of the three critical variables, eight experiments leaded to a mathematical model as a first-degree polynomial presenting the response function (yield) in the relation to the operating parameters. From the retained model, we were able to calculate the average response, the different effects and their interactions. The maximum of essential oil recovery percentage relative to the initial mass of plant material was 1.69%, and was obtained at ($140^{\circ}C$, 250 g and 4.5 L). The chemical composition of the Algerian T. fontanesii essential oil under the obtained optimal conditions ($140^{\circ}C$, 250 g and 4.5 L), determined by GC/MS and GC/FID, reveled of the presence of major components such as: carvacrol ($70.6{\pm}0.1%$), followed by p-cymene ($8.2{\pm}0.2%$).

  • The objectives of this study were to determine whether older Americans would provide valid energy intake information using a 24-hr recall method and to determine which characteristics were predictive of under-report of energy intake. We conducted 24-hour recalls on 83 male and 105 female community-dwelling older adults(66-87y) in the USA to assess energy(EI) and nutrient intakes. Basal metabolic rate(BMR) was calculated from age-and gender-specific equations of Schofield. Under-reporting was defined a priori as EI : BMR<0.9. Subjects volunteered demographic information, underwent depression and cognition exams, and completed a Level II Nutrition Risk Screen. Differences between under- and adequate-reporters were assessed using t-tests for characteristics and macro-nutrient profile. Stepwise regression analyses were used to predict under-reporting status. Under-reporting of EI occurred in 34% of the sample. Neither geriatric depression scale(GDS) score, nor self-reported weight loss were related to under-reporting. On average, under-reporters had higher body mass indices. The most significant variables for the main effect to predict the ratio of energy intake to estimated basal metabolic rate(EI : BMRest) were BMI and age. Using a standard cut-off of 76% of the recommended dietary allowances for Americans, under-reporters were consistently more likely to be classified as having inadequate nutrient, as well as energy, intakes.
