This paper presents a method of calculation of the stresses, the strains and the deflections due to welding in L shape and in T shape. Using step by step method of plasticity and establishing the equilibrium conditions in section, we calculated thermal stresses and strains during welding and in the final step of calculation we got the residual stresses, strains and the deflections due to welding. Also we measured the stresses and the strains with hole-drilling method and compared the results with the method of calculation presented in this paper. Because of its symmetry of section, the deflection due to welding in T shape is generally much less than that in L shape. The residual stresses are tensile in welded joints and HAZ, and compressive in base metal as butt welding of plates, but the compressive stresses in base metal decrease repidly as the points are away from welded joint except horizontal plates of T shape. The theoretical method of calculaiton presented in this paper coincides faily well with the experiment.
Steel members have advantages of resisting torsion and axial compression. In design, residual stresses at the welded joint of T-shape steel pipes are one of the most important points to be considered. In this paper, characteristics of residual stresses of welded joints are clarified by carrying out 3D non-steady heat conduction analysis and 3D thermal elastic-plastic FE-analysis. According to the results, the production mechanism of residual stresses at the welded joint of T-shape steel pipe is clarified. In this paper, circumferential stresses depended on thermal histories but axial and radial stresses were more dependent on geometrical shape than thermal histories. Residual stresses in the axial direction on the lower part of pipe member were tensile, controlled by geometrical shape. However, in case of middle part, residual stresses in all the directions were controlled by thermal histories.
C. H. OH, S. N. CHOI, T. G. NAM, The Kinematic Analysis of the Tennis Flat Serve Motion, Korean Jiurnal of Sports Biomechanics, Vol. 16, No. 2, pp. 97-108, 2006. By the comparison and the analysis of the different factors during the tennis flat serve motion such as the required time per section, the movement displacement of the racket, the velocity of the upper limbs joints, the physical center of gravity, and the angle and the angular velocity of the upper limbs joints between an ace player and a mediocre player, these following results were drawn. First, the experiment result of the total time required per section in a tennis flat serve motion showed that an ace player was faster than a mediocre player by 0.4 seconds. This result suggested that it was required to increase the speed of the racket head by a swift swing to perform an effective flat serve motion. Second, the experiment result of the movement displacement of the racket in the tennis flat serve motion showed that an ace player greatly moved toward the left side on an x-axis. But both an ace and a mediocre player were shown to be at the similar points on a y-axis at the moment of the impact of the racket. An ace player was also shown to be located at a higher position on a z-axis by 0.23m. Third, the velocity of the center of gravity of an ace player was faster in every phase than that of a mediocre player in a tennis flat serve motion. Fourth, the velocity of the upper limb joints of an ace player was faster in every phase than that of a mediocre player in a tennis flat serve motion. Fifth, the experiment result of the speed of the racket head in tennis flat serve motion showed that a mediocre player was faster than an ace player in the first phase, but the latter was faster than the former in the second, third, and the fourth phases. Sixth, at the moment of impact of a tennis flat serve, an ace player had greater flexion of the angle of the wrist joints by an 11.8 degree than a mediocre player. An ace player also had greater extension of the angle of the elbow joint and the shoulder joint respectively by a 5.2 degree and a 1.4 degree with a mediocre player. Seventh, an ace player had greater angular velocity of the upper limb joints and the hip joints than a mediocre player at the moment of the impact of tennis flat serve. Eighth, an ace player was shown to have a greater change of the forward and the backward inclination (or the anterior and posterior inclination) of the upper body
Vertical cutoff walls such as steel pipe sheet piles (SPSPs) have been commonly applied for the construction of the offshore waste landfill site. Because the SPSPs are sequentially installed by connecting their joints to those of adjacent piles, their mechanical stability should be ensured against the inherent external forces on the sea. The objective of this study is to evaluate the structural performances of the newly developed types of SPSP joint compared with those of other joint types. The problems of the traditional SPSP joints are investigated, and an advanced joint shape of SPSP, which is named double H with L-T (DHLT) joint, are designed for improving the constructability and maintenance. Full-scale models of the DHLT joint are manufactured, and then its joint areas are filled with grout material. After 28 days of curing time, compressive and tensile strength tests were performed on the joint models and the test results were compared with those of the traditional joints. Experimental results show that the structural capacities of the DHLT joint models are lower than those of traditional joints due to the influence of grout and steel members. In the cases of the compressive strength test, especially, bending occurs on steel H-beam with no distinct cracks in grout due to the asymmetrical structure of joint which has no reaction force. This study shows that the performance of the SPSP joint can be improved by considering the influence factors on the structural capacities estimated by the experimental tests.

For a variety of elastic-plastic stress fields of plane strain specimens, many research works verified the validity of J-T approach. To generalize the validity of J-T method, however, further investigations are needed for more practical 3D structures than the idealized geometries as plane strain specimens. In this work, selecting two main types of structures such as plate and straight pipe, we perform 3D finite element(FE) modeling, and accompanying elastic, elastic-plastic FE analyses. We then study the validity of J-T application to 3D structures, and present some useful informations for the design or assessment of pipe welds by comparing the stress fields from the detailed 3D FE analyses to those predicted with J-T two parameters.
This study analyzed the range of motion of upper body in different configurations of firefighters' protective clothing and equipment. The purpose of this study was to understand the influence of firefighters' protective clothing and equipment over upper body motion in order to improve design of firefighters' protective clothing and equipment. 12 firefighters' upper body range of motion was analyzed while performing standing and walking trials in five different garment configurations including turnout ensemble, fire boots and the self-contained breathing apparatus. Analysis of upper body range of motion included spinal joints of L5S1, L4L3, T1C7, and C1Head. During standing trials, garment configurations caused a significant difference in range of motions at joints of L5S1, L4L3, T1C7, and C1Head. Analysis on the mean of range of motions at L5S1 and L4L3, showed that firefighters' waist bent forward significantly to a greater extent while they wore a self-contained breathing apparatus. A significantly increased range of motion was found for T1C7 and C1Head while carrying a self-contained breathing apparatus, which indicated an increase in the extension of the trunk and neck backward to stand upright and look squarely. A significant difference in range of motion was also found for L5S1 and L4L3 during walking trials.

The major goal of this study is to develop the industrialized structural system that can build high-rise buildings using the box-shaped steel frames such as a unit module system. In order to achieve such a goal, we need the advanced details for joints that consist in a single unit. Furthermore we also need to commercialize the unit modular building system through the basic experiments, research of theoretical analysis and the achievement of seismic performance. This study derived to develop the derails in the beam-to-column joint and to carry out structural performance test. Test results, a joint with thickness of 6.0T can be possible to maintain the plastic rotational angle for strength and seismic performance. Therefore, joint with thickness of 6.0T is able to apply when considering reinforcement in the local of stress concentration.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the gait characteristics and interaction between lower extremity joints according to shoe's heel heights in young women. Participants were selected as subject consisted of young and healthy women (age: $23.71{\pm}1.49yrs$, height: $165.92{\pm}2.00cm$, body weight: $54.37{\pm}3.46kg$) and walked with 3 types of shoe's high-heel (0, 5, 9 cm). The variables analyzed consisted of the displacement of Y axis in center of mass ([COM]; (position, velocity), front rear(FR) and left right(LR) angle of trunk, lower extremity joint angle (hip, knee, ankle) and asymmetric index (AI%). The displacement of Y axis in COM position showed the greater movement according to increase of shoe's heel heights, but velocity of COM showed the decrease according to increase of shoe's heel heights during gait. The hip and knee angle didn't show significant difference statistically according to increase of shoe's heel height, but left hip and knee showed more extended posture than those of right hip and knee angle. Also ankle angle didn't show significant difference statistically, but 9 cm heel showed more plantarflexion than those of 5 cm and 0 cm. The asymmetric index (AI%) showed more asymmetric 9 cm heel than those of 0 cm and 5 cm. The FR and LR angle in trunk tilting didn't show significant difference statistically according to the increase of shoe's heel height during gait in young women.

Based on recent studies, the side resistance of rock socketed drilled shafts was affected by unconfined compressive strength of rock, socket roughness, rock types and joints, and initial normal stress. Especially, the socket roughness was affected by rock types and joints, drilling methods, and diameters of pile. In this study, a new roughness measurement system (BKS-LRPS, Backyoung-KyungSung Laser Roughness Profiling System) usable in water was developed. Based on the laboratory model tests, an EMD (Effective Measurement Distances) according to various turbidity was proposed as $EMD=1149.2{\times}T_{b}^{-0.64}$.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the characteristics of joint kinematics and synchronicity of rowing motion between elite and non-elite rowers. Methods: Two elite and two non-elite rowers performed rowing strokes (3 trials, 20 strokes in each trial) at three different stroke rates (20, 30, 40 stroke/min) on two stationary rowing ergometers. The rowing motions of the rowers were captured using a 3-dimensional motion analysis system (8-infrared camera VICON system, Oxford, UK). The range of motion (RoM) of the knee, hip, and elbow joints on the sagittal plane, the lead time ($T_{Lead}$) and the drive time $T_{Drive}$) for each joint, and the elapsed time for the knee joint to maintain a fully extended position ($T_{Knee}$) during the stroke were analyzed and compared between elite and non-elite rowers. Synchronicity of the rowing motion within and between groups was examined using coefficients of variation (CV) of the $T_{Drive}$ for each joint. Results: Regardless of the stroke rate, the RoM of all joints were greater for the elite than for non-elite rowers, except for the RoMs of the knee joint at 30 stroke/min and the elbow joint at 40 stroke/min (p < .05). Although the $T_{Lead}$ at all stroke rates were the same between the groups, the $T_{Drive}$ for each joint was shorter for the elite than for the non-elite rowers. During the drive phase, elite rowers kept the fully extended knee joint angle longer than the non-elite rowers (p < .05). The CV values of the TDrive within each group were smaller for the elite compared with non-elite rowers, except for the CV values of the hip at all stroke/min and elbow at 40 stroke/min. Conclusion: The elite, compared with non-elite, rowers seem to be able to perform more powerful and efficient rowing strokes with large RoM and a short $T_{Drive}$ with the same $T_{Lead}$.
