A Study on the Global Diffusion through a Case for the Expansion of the T-DMB into Vietnam (지상파 DMB 베트남 진출 사례를 통한 T-DMB 글로벌 확산 연구)

  • The T-DMB which was developed by the convergence of digital broadcasting technology and communication technology provides us with very good quality of music like CD, and provides TV services in a super express train like the KTX whose velocity is over 300 Km per hour. The T-DMB is diffusing toward the world as a technology which is be able to provide the various convergent services of broadcasting and communication through mobile phone, PDA, dedicated terminal, and so on. A business model needed for the diffusion of the T-DMB toward the world was established and utilized to expand the T-DMB into Vietnam in the paper. In addition, this paper describes a case for the establishment of the T-DMB system in order to provide the paid services in Vietnam. It is expected that the expansion of the T-DMB into Vietnam will make a great contribution to the diffusion of the T-DMB toward the world.

  • Recently, the regular service of a terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting(T-DMB) made faster distribution of T-DMB receiver. The problem of an illegal distribution is increasing owing to a large distribution of T-DMB receiver. In this paper, we propose a watermarking and encryption method on T-DMB bit-stream for a copy and Play control to prevent an illegal distribution of T-DMB contents. We implement our proposed method on a portable multimedia player (PMP) which has T-DMB receiver. The proposed method insert the encrypted information for control of copy and play after finding padding area of program map table (PMT) and program association table (PAT) from analysis of transport stream (TS) of T-DMB. In implementation result, we can control use of contents according to information of copy and play control. The proposed method can be used to content Protection software for blocking of an illegal distribution of T-DMB contents on a mobile T-DMB receivers.

T-DMB multimedia service system development using IPv6 (IPv6를 이용한 T-DMB 멀티미디어 서비스 시스템 개발)

  • 본 논문에서는 IPv6를 이용한 새로운 T-DMB 멀티미디어 서비스 시스템을 설계 및 구현하였다. 본 논문에서 제안한 방식은 IPv6의 듀얼스택 기술인 DSTM 방식을 T-DMB 패킷 전송 서비스에 접목시켰다. IPv6의 주소 체계 방식을 이용하여 기존의 T-DMB와의 호환성을 유지하면서 T-DMB 단말 내에 DSTM 패킷 전송을 위한 어플리케이션 데이터 테이블을 배치하여 T-DMB in IPv6 터널링을 통한 서비스를 실행할 수 있게 하였다. 또한, T-DMB Client 와 DSTM TEP를 단말에 배치하여 패킷 전송을 가능하게 하였다. T-DMB in IPv6 터널링 기술을 도입하여 T-DMB 방송 시스템의 성능 평가를 실시한 결과, 기존의 T-DMB 방송 서비스보다 약 2배 정도의 전송 용량 증가 및 채널 용량 증가가 효과를 바로 볼 수 있었고, 패킷 크기 따른 전송 효과는 기존의 방송 서비스보다 약 3%정도 증가된 결과 값을 얻을 수 있었다.

Study on Error Correction Method for Advanced Terrestrial DMB (고품질 지상파 DMB를 위한 오류정정방식 연구)

  • Advanced T-DMB(Terrestial DMB )system which is a new portable mobile broadcasting system has been developed to increase data rate up to double of conventional T-DMB in same bandwidth while maintaining backward compatibility, using hierarchical modulation method. The Advanced T-DMB system realize high qualification of conventional T-DMB system by adding BPSK signal or QPSK signal as enhanced layer to existing DQPSK signal. The enhanced layer signal should be small enough to maintain backward compatibility and to minimize the coverage loss of existing T-DMB service area. But this causes the enhanced layer signal of Advanced T-DMB susceptible to fading effect in transmission channel. In this paper we applied the duo-binary turbo code which has powerful error correction capability to the enhanced layer signal for compensating channel distortion. And the computer simulation results about the performance of the duo-binary turbo code in Advanced T-DMB system are presented along with analysis comments.

  • The Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) system supplies high quality audio comparable with VCD in 7 inch display and high quality audio comparable CD at the mobile reception environment T-DMB will launch commercial service at the middle of 2005. However the bandwidth for audio data and the number of channels are restricted to 128 kbps and 2 respectively in the current T-DMB standard because of the limitation of available bandwidth for multimedia data. This Paper Proposes a novel media processor structure for providing multi-channel audio contents oyer T-DMB system allowing backward compatibility with the legacy T-DMB receiver. Furthermore. we also Propose an adaptive receiver structure to supply optimal audio contents on various speaker configuration in T-DMB receiver. To provide multi-channel audio contents allowing backward comaptilbity with the legacy T-DMB receiver, the additional data for multi-channel audio are defined as a dependent stream of main audio stream. The OD strucure for control an additional multi-channel audio elementary stream is proposed without changing the BIFS of the legacy T-DMB system.

  • 기존의 T-DMB 표준 문서에서는 T-DMB 기반의 비디오 서비스를 무료 서비스로 규정하여 스크램블링을 수행할 수 없도록 제한 사항을 두고 있다. 그러나, 최근의 T-DMB 수익 구조 개선의 노력과 차세대 T-DMB(AT-DMB) 기술의 등장으로 T-DMB 기반의 유료 비디오 서비스에 대한 관심이 점차 증대되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 유료 서비스 관련 기존 T-DMB 표준 문서들을 분석하여, T-DMB 채널을 통한 유료 비디오 서비스를 제공하기 위한 효율적인 시그날링 및 스크램블 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 기존의 비디오 서비스와 역호환성을 유지하여 이미 보급된 T-DMB 수신 단말에 문제점을 야기하지 않는 것을 특징으로 한다.

Mobile Receiver Model for T-DMB Location Automatic Emergency Alert Service (T-DMB 국지적 자동재난경보방송 서비스를 위한 모바일 수신 모델)

  • This paper presents the method of emergency warning system operation based on T-DMB and the design of T-DMB AEAS receiver model. The proposed receiver model compares the geographical location of emergency with the location of DMB transmitting station from T-DMB broadcasting signal and classifies the receiver location into alert region, neighboring region and non-alert region and transmits the emergency alert message according to each region. The geographical location of emergency can be obtained from FIG 5/2 EWS data field for AEAS message and the location of DMB transmitting station can be estimated from either the latitude and the longitude in main identifier and sub identifier in FIG 0/22 data filed for TII(Transmitter Identification Information) or TII distribution database. In our experiment, we implemented the proposed receiver model with display section, storage section, DMB module for receiving broadcasting signal and control section and performed test emergency alert broadcasting using T-DMB signal generator.

In addition, this paper describes not only some predicting methods for the technological valuation of the T-DMB Total Solution, but also a case study on the marketing related to establishing the T-DMB system in order to provide the paid services in Vietnam. Finally, A couple of business models needed to globally expand the T-DMB have been provided.

  • The advanced T-DMB is the digital broadcasting technique upgrading the T-DMB which has low effective data rate compared with other things. Since it applies the hierarchical modulation, it has maximally twice as much the effective data rate of a T-DMB, so it can provides the video service of high quality and many stations more than a T-DMB. Therefore, the study for DAB service on the AT-DMB environment will be advantageous better than the previous studies for it on the T-DMB environment. So, this paper proposes the method of the channel allocation for DAB service on the Advance T-DMB system environment and presents the results of the interference analysis in order to verify that.

  • This paper introduces an Advanced Terrestrial DMB (AT-DMB) system which provides higher efficiency of transmission and better quality of service than conventional T-DMB system. In AT-DMB, a hierarchical modulation method is applied to transmit more data while maintaining backward compatibility to conventional T-DMB receivers. This method can provide not only high quality video service but also lots of broadcasting channels. In this paper, the performance of the hierarchical modulation in AT-DMB system is analyzed with computer simulation in several environments compared with the performance of T-DMB system.
