  • In order to measure the acoustic amplification factor of an Al/HTPB propellant, T-burner tests using pulsed DB/AB method were conducted. In the experiment, powdered aluminum content was varied to a certain extent. Simultaneous ignition on the internal surface of a propellant was achieved by the use of a fast ignition disk. From the experimental data, the damping factor for a non-zero aluminum content could not be calculated due to the fast attenuation of perturbed pressure. Therefore, the addition of aluminum particle was more than sufficient to stabilize pressure-coupled instability.

  • The demand for a boiler with low NOx burner is increasing with the recent strict NOx regulation. Staged burner is a common low NOx burner to suppress the formation of thermal NOx by yielding local fuel rich and lean condition. The staged burner gives fire with bigger frontal area and length compared with a conventional burner, which changes heat transfer characteristics in the combustion chamber. The heat transfer and exhaust gas characteristics have been studied in the present study for a 0.5 t/h class furnace type boiler adopting the staged burner. A numerical simulation has been conducted to clarify the detailed physics inside the combustion chamber.

  • T-Burner tests of an Al/HTPB propellant in conjunction with a Pulsed DB/AB Method were conducted to find an acoustic amplification factor. Aluminum-free and aluminum-heavy propellants were examined. Instant surface ignition was successfully made by the use of a supplementary propellant of fractionally higher reaction rate. With the presence of higher aluminum concentration in the propellants, the pressure perturbations were promptly damped down and the pressure fluctuations were no longer dispersive. Addition of aluminum particles into the propellant was advantageous for stabilizing pressure-coupled unstable waves.

  • Combustion response function of a solid propellant is measured and calculated to study and model the feedback process between acoustic waves and combustion field. Standard Pulsed DB/AB method and related one-dimensional approximate analysis of T-burner are used to obtain the response function at a driving natural frequency. The problems related with simultaneous ignition of propellant samples are also mentioned and treated.

  • This study was conducted to investigate on the combustion characteristic with the effects of mat thickness and fuel kinds in a metal-fiber burner. The mode transition point is confirmed by the K value, which was defined as the rate of flow velocity and laminar burning velocity. The ($T^4_{sur}-T^4_{\infty}$) is highest at methane flame with 3 T thickness. Through the measurement of the unburned mixture temperature, the possibility of submerged flame in surface combustion burner was confirmed. The rapid emission of CO occurs nearby limit blow out (LBO) because of the increase of flow velocity. In case of NOx, the trend is similar with surface temperature. However, it also considered that the NOx emission is affected by residence time with flame position.

  • The phenomena called "combustion instabilities" in a solid-propellant rocket motor may be viewed as sustaining or amplifying pressure waves. Energy is supplied by combustion processes near the surface of the burning propellant. T-burner method is used to determine the response function of the propellant to the pressure wave. But initial tests were failed because of the Helmholtz resonation inside the T-burner. Acoustic analysis of the original T-burner is carried out and suppression techniques for the Helmholtz oscillation are introduced.ntroduced.

  • Recently the interest for the environment is increasing. So the criterion for the evaluation of the burner has changed. For efficient driving problem, if the thermal efficiency is higher and the oxygen in exhaust gas is lower, then burner is evaluated better. For environmental problem. burner must satisfy NOx limit, soot limit and CO limit. Generally the experienced operator judge of the combustion status of the burner by the color of flame. we don't still have any satisfactory solution against it. the relation of the combustion status and the color of the flame hasn't still been established. This paper is the study about the relation of the combustion status and the color of the flame. This paper describes development of real time flame diagnosis technique that evaluate and diagnose combustion state such as consistency of components in exhaust gas, stability of flame in quantitative sense. In this paper, it was proposed on the flame diagnosis technique of burner using image processing algorithm, the parameter extracted from the image of the flame was used as the input variables of the flame diagnostic system. at first, linear regression algorithm and multiple regression algorithm was used to obtain linear multi-nominal expression. Using the constructed inference algorithm, the amount of NOx and CO of the combustion gas was successfully inferred. the combustion control system will be realized sooner or later.

  • A 0.5 t/h class non-furnace boiler has been developed with the aim of achieving a high efficiency and compactness. A metal fiber burner has been adopted so that a stable flame can be obtained. The tube banks are installed downstream of the burner. Bare tubes are used upstream, while finned tubes are installed downstream. The heat-transfer characteristics of the non-furnace boiler have been studies on the basis of the results of the numerical simulation as well as those of the experiment. Important design parameters such as the bulk temperature along the streamwise direction and the temperature of the fin tips have been evaluated using the CFD results and compared with the experimental data and the empirical correlations typically used for the design of the boiler.
