프로젝트 관리(PM)와 시스템엔지니어링 관리(SEM)의 범위 및 관계 (The Scope and Relationship of Project Management and Systems Engineering Management)

  • Put Abstract text here. Recently, the Korea industry need systems engineering technology more than yesterday. The systems engineering management function is needed to use the systems engineering engine process effectively. The systems engineering management function is overlapped a lot with project management function and has vague interface. The project management and systems engineering are two independent disciplines. So there are few references which address the scope and relationships clearly between systems engineering management and project management. This paper suggest the scope and relationships between systems engineering management and project management and revise the PMP and SEMP structure of Blanchard and Fabrycky. Followings are the key concept of this paper presenting. The project management(PM) composed of technical management and non-technical management. The technical management scope is same with systems engineering management. The non-technical management scope is composed of parts of enterprise support processes.

  • The conventional systems engineering has been performed mainly based on documentation artifacts. Although the Document-Based Systems Engineering has played a very important role in developing and deploying systems, it is difficult for systems engineers to build, to clarify, and to reuse the operational, functional and physical views of the System of Interest (SOI) efficiently. An information-age approach to this problem is the Model-Based Systems Engineering which has been emerging as a very productive solution for stakeholders to define, and understand the desired systems easily, to communicate and collaborate efficiently among each other, and also to verify and validate the systems solutions effectively. This paper proposes a set of MBSE process, methods, and models for use during the systems analysis and design phase of the naval combat system development. An example application of the proposed approach was exercised and a set of artifacts was generated for an export combat system project to demonstrate its effectiveness.

  • Frequent occurrences of a fire cause tremendous loss of human lives and their property. Recently, in order to cope with such catastrophic accidents, researches on fire-fighting robots are carried out in developed countries. Under the dangerous situations, it is sometimes impossible for fire-fighting men to access the firing place because of explosive materials, smoke, high temperature and so on. In such an environment, fire-fighting robots can be useful to extinguish the fire. It is usually very dangerous place where fire-fighting robots operate. Hence, these robots should be controlled by remote users who are for away from the firing place exploiting remote communication systems. This paper considers the communication systems between fire-fighting robots and remote users. The communication systems consist of two parts; digital packet communication systems and analog image communication systems. Digital packet communication systems transfer data packets in order to control fire-fighting robots and to check the state of the fire-fighting robots. Remote users watch the video around the fire-fighting robots by exploiting the analog image communication systems. In the future, the more prosperous the commercial communication network systems will be, the more evolved the communication systems for fire-fighting robots are.

데이터모델 관점에서의 시스템설계 및 시스템안전 프로세스의 통합에 관한 연구 (On the Integration of Systems Design and Systems Safety Processes from an Integrated Data Model Viewpoint)

  • The issues raised so far in the development of safety-critical systems have centered on how effectively the safety requirements are met in systems design. The systems are becoming more complex due to the increasing demand on the functionality and performance. As such, the integration of both the systems design and systems safety processes becomes more important and at the same time quite difficult to carry out. In this paper, an approach to solving the problem is presented, which is based on an integrated data model. To do so, the data generated from the inputs and outputs of the systems design and systems safety processes are analyzed first. The results of analysis are used to extract common attributes among the data, thereby making it possible to define classes. The classes then become the cores of the interface data model through which the interaction between the two processes under study can be modeled and interpreted. The approach taken has also been applied in a design case to demonstrate its value. It is expected that the results of the study could play a role of the stepping stone in extending to the architecture development of the integrated process.

  • Modern distributed control systems focus on system openness, network system architecture and PC based controller. This paper discusses the embedded systems with ORB for distributed control systems. Embedded systems have merits such as small size, low cost and user convenience. ORB allows users to program easily by using IDL and provides client/server network for heterogeneous platforms. By using embedded systems and ORB, we implement the system and validate it by using VME system. The developed system has benefits when it is applied to distributed control systems.

  • As the human demand or desire on brand new systems otherwise equipped with new functions grows drastically, so does the complexity of the systems. With this trend, the systems are becoming bigger in scale and at the same time the safety requirements are more stringent in the development. Typical systems examples in such a situation may include high-speed railway systems, aero and space systems, marine systems, etc. Failure of those systems can cause serious damages on both the human being and wealth with social infrastructure. As such, it is quite necessary to ensure that the safety requirements be satisfied in the system development. To achieve this need, there could be a lot of solutions to take. In this paper, regarding safety, a special attention is given to the verification phase process, which is one of the intermediate phases of whole systems development process. More specifically, the ultimate concern is placed on how to carry out the design verification while ensuring the safety requirements. To do so, some improvements in the verification phase were proposed first. Then, the outcomes were combined with the systems safety process by generating an integrated process model to reach the goal. As a case study, application to a railway system was discussed, where strict safety requirements are usually necessary. It would be expected that the potential likelihood of failure with rail systems could be reduced if the results obtained are used effectively with some enhancement from further study.

  • 본 연구는 국내 대학 및 소속을 두고 있는 한국 IS 연구자의 연구실적을 측정하였다. 본 연구자들은 선행연구에 기반해 MIS Quarterly(MISQ), Information Systems Research(ISR), Journal of Management Information Systems(JMlS), Journal of the Association for Information Systems(JAIS), European Journal of Information Systems(EJIS), Information Systems Journal(ISJ), Decision Support Systems(DSS), Communications of the Association for Information Systems(CAIS), Information and Management(I&M), Journal of Strategy Information Systems(JSlS), Journal of Information Technology(JIT) 11 개 선도 저널을 선정하였고, 2007년부터 2009년까지 출판된 한국 IS 연구자의 논문을 싸이언토메트릭 기법을 통해 측정하였다. 본 연구결과는 한국 IS 연구자의 우수한 연구실적에 대한 정보를 제공함으로써 우수 연구자의 파악 및 채용 정보 획득에 도움을 줄 것이고, 더불어 신입생 유치에 있어 학교와 학과의 우수성을 홍보하는데 자료를 제공해 줄 것이다. 본 연구는 한국 IS 연구자의 연구실적 측정에 대한 연구가 드믄 실정에서 연구의 독창성이 존재하며, 한국 IS 연구자의 논문 출판 추세를 이해하는데 도움을 제공할 것이다.

  • With the recent changes in the environment of weapon systems acquisition, the systems development is becoming more susceptible to a variety of risks. To cope with this situation, US DoD has been emphasizing the importance of constantly applying the test and evaluation (T&E) process throughout the whole life cycle of the weapon systems. In particular, the safety requirements are called for attention while dealing with system risks. To this end, the present paper is aimed at studying the T&E process which incorporates the systems safety in weapon systems development. Analyzing and modeling the relevant processes has made it possible to achieve the objective. As a case study, the model results were applied to the development of unmanned aerial vehicles.

초고속 자기부상철도 개발을 위한 시스템엔지니어링 계획서 (Systems Engineering Plan for the Development of Ultra-High-Speed Maglev Train System)

  • The systems engineering (SE) process shall be applied to the project for successful development of ultra-high-speed (UHS) Maglev train system which is one of very large and complex systems. It is important to abolish technology differentials from the advanced developers such as Germany, Japan, etc. and to ensure discriminatory competitiveness of the application of systems engineering process for the development of the system based on appropriate concepts and requirements. General operation concept and stakeholder's requirements of UHS Maglev train system must be elicited with system concept for initiating the project. The management plan should be devised for all sorts of systems engineering activities of risk management, performance management, lifecycle cost management, etc. This paper would support to establish the systems engineering management plan (SEMP) for the program of UHS Maglev train system development with associated documents.

  • This paper presents an efficient evaluation method on the role of new energy storage systems, especially the secondary Battery Energy Storage (BES) systems, in the case where they are interconnected with the power distribution systems. It is important to perform the economic evaluation for the new energy storage systems in a synthetical and quantitative manner, because they are very costly in the early stage of their development and commercialization. In this paper, the multiple functions of BES systems, which are operated at distribution systems, such as load levelling, effective utilization of power distribution systems and uninterruptible power supply at the emergency conditions are classified and analyzed. And then the quantitative evaluation methods of the multiple functions for BES systems are proposed using the mathematical modelling.
