  • A taxonomic Study was carried out on the freshwater cladocerans from Korea during the period from August 1985 to May 1987. Materials consist of both the specimens deposited at Department of Zoology, College of Natural Sciences, Seoul National University and those collected at the freshwater regions such as rivers, lakes, ponds, bogs, rice fields, etc. During the period. As a result of examining the speciemens collected at the 123 locations in South Korea, 31 species of 7 families were identified and classified. In this paper, the authors submit the figures of the 31 species, of which the following 13 species were descirbed as hitherto unrecorded species in Korea : Diaphanosoma Leuchtenbergianum Fisher, 1858 : Simocephalus vetulus 9O.F.Mller, 1776) ; S. esxpinosus (koch, 1841); Ceriodaphnia reticulata (Jurine, 1820) ; Scapholeberis mucronata (O.F. Mller, 1785) ; Moina weismanni Ishikawa, 1896 : Ilyocryptus agilis Kurz, 1878 ; Biapertura affinis (Leydig, 1860) : Camptocercus rectirostris Schodler, 1862 ; alona costata Sars, 1862 ; Disparalona rostrata (Koch, 1841); Pseudochydorus globosus (Barird, 1843) ; Leptodora kindtii(Focke, 1844)

  • During the course of a systematic study of the marine bryozonans in Korean waters, a total of 25 species of the ascophoran bryoaoans were collected, and that the belong to 21 genera and 12 families. Of them, the following nine species new to Korean waters are examined and described with the scanning electron microscope(SEM): Celleporaria wakayamensis, C. brunnea, Rhamphostomella argentea, Calyptotheca symmetrica, Stephanosella biaperta, Microporella discors, Adeonella platalea, A. polymorpha and Phidolopora pacifica.

  • Cerithiid specimens collected in South Korean waters (12 localities) during the period from August 1965 to October 1991 were identified and classified. In the present study, seven species in six genera were identified as Korean Cerithiidae. Among them, three species, Blttlum variegatum Kuroda and Habe, 1971, Brttrum cratlculatum Gould, 1860 and Ataxocerlthlum abnormale (Sowerby, 1903), are new to Korean malacofauna and fully redescribed with illustrations.

  • Two species of the genus Langerhansia and nine species of the genus Typosyllis are identified from the South Sea and East Sea in Korea. Of these eleven species, four species are newly recorded from Korean waters. They are Langerhansia cornuta, L. rosea, Typosyllis okadai, and T. hyalina. Genus Langerhansia is reported in Korea for the first time.

  • The Albuginales (Oomycetes) consist of obligate biotrophic pathogens, none of which is culturable on artificial media. This group causes white blister rust disease in diverse angiosperm plants, including many economically important crops such as sunflower, horseradish, rape, radish, spinach, and wasabi. Recent advances in molecular phylogenetic tools and findings of new morphological characters have advanced our knowledge on their diversity, evolution, and systematics. This review introduces the white blister rusts and discusses recent innovations resulting from studies on Albuginales.

  • Some hydromedusae were collected from the western and southern coasts of Korean Peninsula during May to October, 1995. They were identified into Turritopsis nutricula(McCrady, 1856); Cladonema radiatum Dujardin, 1843; Eirene menoni Kramp, 1953 and Gonionemus vertens A. Agassiz, 1862. Of which the hydromedusa of T. nutricula is preliminary known in Korean waters, and the remainders are new to the Korean fauna.

  • Striped filed mice from Jeju-Do (Apodemus agrarius chejuensis) were used for morphometric and chromosomal studies in order to compare them with striped field mice from the korean peninsula (A. Agrarius coreae). It was found that A.agrarius chejuensis and A. agrarius coreae are similar in karyotypes and it was confirmed that the former is a large-size group and the latter is a small-size group.
