  • The Small-Unit Riverine Craft (SURC) is a small high-speed vessel used by navies and marine corps in relatively shallow waterway environments, such as riverine areas or littoral coasts. In the past, SURCs have primarily been rigid-hulled inflatable boats constructed using composite materials such as glass fiber reinforced plastics. More recently, single-hull SURCs have been manufactured using aluminum for weight reduction. In this study, a Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) material was applied instead to examine its feasibility in the basic design of an SURC with a hull length of 10 m. The CFRP structural design was obtained using the properties of a marine CFRP laminate, determined in a previous study. Next, the designed CFRP SURC was modeled to confirm its functionality, then compared with existing aluminum SURCs, indicating that the CFRP SURC was 41.49 % lighter, reduced fuel consumption by 30 %, and could sail 50 NM further for every hour of engine operation. A method for reducing the high cost of carbon fiber was also proposed based on the adjustment of the carbon fiber content to provide the optimum strength where required. The data developed in this study can be used as a basis for further design of CFRP craft.

  • For the preparation of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), the copolymerization of ethylene and 1-butene was carried out with various catalysts of titanium alkoxidealkylaluminum compound in slurry phase. The effects of catalyst components, aging time, concentration of catalyst components, polymerization time and temperature on the catalytic activity and copolymer composition were examined. The properties of copolymer obtained were also considered with the correlation to the 1-butene contents. It has been found that the titanium tetra-n-butoxide-diethylaluminum chloride catalyst system was the most suitable for the production of LLDPE with higher catalytic activity, more 1-butene content and less soluble parts. The density, glass transition temperature, melting point and heat of fusion of copolymer were decreased with increasing 1-butene contents.

  • Recently, There has been increasing concern about WLAN-based indoor positioning system. Most of the existing WLAN-based positioning systems use a fingerprinting method as a main approach. In the fingerprinting approach, the accuracy of the location of a mobile objects is proportional to the number of reference points. However, depending on the increasing number of reference points in the training phase, it requires more time and effort to create fingerprint database. To solve these problems, we propose the new indoor positioning algorithm that calculate the distance between a mobile objects and an AP using the information of surrounding environment WLAN based APs and applied the particle filter to the proposed algorithm in order to improve the accuracy of the estimated location in this paper. To implement this algorithm, at first environmental information database such as wall, iron door, glass door, partition etc. existing in the periphery of the AP should be established. The positioning use attenuation model and path loss model. Our experimental results with proposed algorithm are verified that the positioning accuracy was low but solved the problems with fingerprinting, compared with other positioning algorithms.

  • Long Period Gratings (LPG) is currently receiving considerable attention because of their consistent measuring results fur pressure, temperature, strain and flow. LPG is easier to prepare and has a high sensitivity compared with Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG). In addition, this kind of optical fiber sensors could be used for implementations in various structures. In this paper, LPG was used to monitor in situ the resin flow and the curing process in VARTM (Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer. Molding). In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method, FBG is inserted into the glass mat to monitor the resin flow using optical spectrum analyzer (OSA). The curing reactions in VARTM are also observed using the same method. From the results, the attenuation wavelength shift and the loss change of attenuation band can be obtained from the status of the RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) sample owing to the internal variations of the .effective index, temperature, and pressure. It is shown that the proposed LPG is more effective in monitoring the curing reaction than FBG.

  • Organic- inorganic hybrid waterborne polyurethane (PUD) is synthesized by using hybrid polyol consist of carbonate (PCD), ester (PCL), and siloxane (PDSBP) in order to enhance anti-scratch property of PUD film. The diameter of graft type PUD emulsion is bigger than that of linear type PUD due to the graft structure of hydrophobic siloxane chain. The glass transition temperature of linear type PUD increase and the decomposition temperature of linear type PUD decrease with the content of PCD polyol. While, the decomposition temperature of graft type PUD almost same with increasing PDSBP content. The anti-scratch property and pencil hardness of graft type PUD improves as adding PDSBP polyol in the hybrid polyol system. When 9 wt% of PDSBP polyol is mixed, PUD films shows excellent anti-scratch property (~3.3 N), and pencil hardness (> 9 H).

  • Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the color stability of bulk-fill and nanohybrid resin-based composites polished with 3 different, multistep, aluminum-oxide impregnated finishing and polishing disks. Materials and Methods: Disk-shaped specimens (8 mm in diameter and 4 mm in thickness) were light-cured between two glass slabs using one nanohybid bulk-fill (Tetric EvoCeram, Ivoclar Vivadent), one micro-hybrid bulk-fill (Quixfil, Dentsply), and two nanohybrid incremental-fill (Filtek Ultimate, 3M ESPE; Herculite XRV Ultra, Kerr) resin-based composites, and aged by thermocycling (between $5-55^{\circ}C$, 3,000 cycles). Then, they were divided into subgroups according to the polishing procedure as SwissFlex ($Colt\grave{e}ne/Whaledent$), Optidisc (Kerr), and Praxis TDV (TDV Dental) (n = 12 per subgroup). One surface of each specimen was left unpolished. All specimens were immersed in coffee solution at $37^{\circ}C$. The color differences (${\Delta}E$) were measured after 1 and 7 days of storage using a colorimeter based on CIE Lab system. The data were analyzed by univariate ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U test, and Friedmann tests (${\alpha}=0.05$). Results: Univariate ANOVA detected significant interactions between polishing procedure and composite resin and polishing procedure and storage time (p < 0.05). Significant color changes were detected after 1 day storage in coffee solution (p < 0.05), except Quixfil/Optidisc which was color-stable after 7 days (p > 0.05). Polishing reduced the discoloration resistance of Tetric EvoCeram/SwissFlex, Tetric EvoCeram/Praxis TDV, Quixfil-SwissFlex, and all Herculite XRV Ultra groups after 7 days storage (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Discoloration resistance of bulk-fill resin-based composites can be significantly affected by the polishing procedures.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the push-out bond strength and dentinal tubule penetration of root canal sealers used with coated core materials and conventional gutta-percha. Materials and Methods: A total of 72 single-rooted human mandibular incisors were instrumented with NiTi rotary files with irrigation of 2.5% NaOCl. The smear layer was removed with 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). Specimens were assigned into four groups according to the obturation system: Group 1, EndoRez (Ultradent Product Inc.); Group 2, Activ GP (Brasseler); Group 3, SmartSeal (DFRP Ltd. Villa Farm); Group 4, AH 26 (Dentsply de Trey)/gutta-percha (GP). For push-out bond strength measurement, two horizontal slices were obtained from each specimen (n = 20). To compare dentinal tubule penetration, remaining 32 roots assigned to 4 groups as above were obturated with 0.1% Rhodamine B labeled sealers. One horizontal slice was obtained from the middle third of each specimen (n = 8) and scanned under confocal laser scanning electron microscope. Tubule penetration area, depth, and percentage were measured. Kruskall-Wallis test was used for statistical analysis. Results: EndoRez showed significantly lower push-out bond strength than the others (p < 0.05). No significant difference was found amongst the groups in terms of percentage of sealer penetration. SmartSeal showed the least penetration than the others (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The bond strength and sealer penetration of resin-and glass ionomer-based sealers used with coated core was not superior to resin-based sealer used with conventional GP. Dentinal tubule penetration has limited effect on bond strength. The use of conventional GP with sealer seems to be sufficient in terms of push-out bond strength.

  • [ $CulnS_2$ ] thin films were synthesized by sulfurization of Cu/In Stacked elemental layer deposited onto glass Substrates by vacuum furnace annealing at temperature $200^{\circ}C$. And structural and electrical properties were measured in order to certify optimum conditions for growth of the ternary compound semiconductor $CuInS_2$ thin films with non-stoichiometry composition. $CuInS_2$ thin film was well made at the annealed $200^{\circ}C$ of SLG/Cu/In/S stacked elemental layer which was prepared by thermal evaporator, and chemical composition of the thin film was analyzed nearly as the proportion of 1 : 1 : 2. Physical properties of the thin film were investigated at various fabrication conditions substrate temperature, annealing and temperature, annealing time by XRD, FE-SEM and Hall measurement system. The compositional deviations from the ideal chemical formula for $200^{\circ}C$ material can be conveniently described by non-molecularity$({\Delta}x=[Cu/In]-1)$ and non-stoichiometry $({\Delta}y=[{2S/(Cu+3In)}-1])$. The variation of ${\Delta}x$ would lead to the formation of equal number of donor and accepters and the films would behave like a compensated material. The ${\Delta}y$ parameter is related to the electronic defects and would determine the type of the majority charge carriers. Films with ${\Delta}y>0$ would behave as p-type material while ${\Delta}y<0$ would show n-type conductivity. At the sane time, carrier concentration, hall mobility and resistivity of the thin films was $9.10568{\times}10^{17}cm^{-3},\;312.502cm^2/V{\cdot}s\;and\;2.36{\times}10^{-2}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, respectively.

  • The properties of ideal root canal sealers include the ability of sealing the total root canal system and no toxic effects to periradicular tissues. Cytotoxicity test using cell culture is a common screening method for evaluation of the biocompatibility of root canal sealers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the cytotoxic effect of newly developed resin-based sealer (Adseal 1, 2, and 3) comparing with those commercial resin-based sealers (AH26 and AH Plus), ZOE-based sealers (Tubliseal EWT, Pulp Canal Sealer EWT) and calcium hydroxide based sealer (Sealapex), An indirect contact test of cytotoxicity by agar diffusion was performed according to the international standard ISO 10993-5. L929 fibroblast cells were incubated at $37^{\circ}C$ in humidified 5% $CO_2-containing$ air atmosphere. The freshly mixed test materials were inserted into glass rings of internal diameter 5 mm and height 5 mm placed on the agar. After the 24 hrs incubation period, the decolorization zones around the test materials were assessed using an inverted microscope with a calibrated screen. A Decolorization Index was determined for each specimen. Adseal 1. 2, and 3 did not exert any cytotoxic effects, whereas AH26, AH Plus, Tubliseal EWT, Pulp Canal Sealer EWT, and Sealapex produced mild cytotoxicity.

  • Epoxy resins are widely used as high performance thermosets in many industrial applications, such as coatings, adhesives and composites. Recently, a lot of research has been carried out in order to improve their mechanical properties and thermal stability in various fields. Carbon nanotubes possess high physical and mechanical properties that are considered to be ideal reinforcing materials in composites. CNT-reinforced epoxy system hold the promise of delivering superior composite materials with their high strength, light weight and multi functional features. Therefore, this study used multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) and gamma rays to improve the mechanical and thermal properties of epoxy. The diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) as epoxy resins were cured by gamma ray irradiation with well-dispersed MWNTs as a reinforcing agent and triarylsulfonium hexafluoroantimonate (TASHFA) as an initiator. The flexural modulus was measured by UTM (universal testing machine). At this point, the flexural modulus factor exhibits an upper limit at 0.1 wt% MWNT. The thermal properties had improved by increasing the content of MWNT in the result of TGA (thermogravimetric analysis). However, they were decreased with increasing the radiation dose. The change of glass transition temperature by the radiation dose was characterized by DMA (dynamic mechanical analysis).
