  • It is critical for radiant floor cooling system using Ondol to cause condensation on a floor surface. To solve this problem, a radiant floor cooling system integrated with dehumidification was proposed and evaluated in terms of its applicability and prevention of condensation. Therresults show that the proposed system of radiant floor cooling integrated with dehumidification properly maintained the indoor setpoint temperatures and prevented the condensation on a floor surface. To achieve more stable indoor temperatures and humidity control, a further study for the operation of dehumidification panel will be needed.

  • The current study describes experimental and computational work on the passive control of the steady and unsteady condensation shock waves, which are generated in a transonic nozzle. The bleed slots are installed on the contoured wall of the transonic nozzle in order to control the magnitude of the condensation shock wave and its oscillations. For computations, a droplet growth equation is incorporated into the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation systems. Computations are carried out using a third-order MUSCL type TVD finite-difference scheme with a second-order tractional time step. Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model is employed to close the governing equations. An experiment using an indraft transonic wind tunnel is made to validate the computational results. The current computations represented well the experimental flows. From both the experimental and computational results it is found that the magnitude of the condensation shock wave in the bleed slotted nozzle is significantly reduced, compared with no passive control of solid wall. The oscillations of the condensation shock wave are successfully suppressed by a bleed slot system.

  • Condensation heat transfer characteristics have been investigated experimentally when a water vapor is condensed on the outside of a horizontal copper tube in a condenser. This problem is of particular interest in the design of a LiBr-water absorption system. Hydrophilic surface modification was performed to increase the wettability on the copper tube. The optimum hydrophilic treatment condition using acethylene and nitrogen as reaction gas is also studied in detail. The results obtained indicate that the optimum reaction gas ratio of acethylene to nitrogen for hydrophilic surface modification was found to be 7 : 3 for the best condensation heat transfer. In the wide ranges of coolant inlet temperatures, and coolant mass flow rates, both the condensation heat transfer rate and the condensation heat transfer coefficient of a hydrophilic copper tube are increased substantially, compared with those of a conventional copper tube used in a condenser. It is also found that the condensation heat transfer enhancement by the hydrophilic surface modification still emains even after a hundred cycles of wet/dry processes.

  • Topology optimization problem requires numerous repeated evaluations of objective function and design sensitivity for elements within design domain with various density distributions. The recently proposed two-level condensation scheme(TLCS) is very promising for the construction of reduced system and for an accurate and efficient analysis concerned about eigenvalue and dynamic problems. We used the two-level dynamic condensation scheme for the analysis and sensitivity computation part in the structural topology optimization problem. The results of the topology optimization for the reduced system show the TLCS provides high accuracy and computation efficiency compared to the full scale system within engineering accuracy.

  • In this paper, the experimental results of condensation heat transfer were reported for the plate and shell heat exchangers(P&SHE) using R-l34a. An experimental refrigerant loop has been established to measure the condensation heat transfer coefficient of R-l34a in a vertical P&SHE. Two vertical counter flow channels were formed in the P&SHE by three plates of geometry with a corrugated trapezoid shape of a chevron angle of 45$^{\circ}$. Downflow of the condensing R-l34a in one channel releases heat to the cold up flow of water in the other channel. The effect of the refrigerant mass flux, average heat flux, system pressure and vapor quality of R-l34a on the measured data were explored in detail. The results indicate that at a higher vapor quality the condensation heat transfer coefficients are significantly higher. Condensation heat transfer coefficients were increased when the refrigerant mass flux was increased. A rise in the average heat flux causes an slight increase in the hr. Finally, at a higher system pressure the hr is found to be lower. Correlation is also provided for the measured heat transfer coefficients in terms of the Nusselt number.

  • Condensation has mainly occurred in corridor type apartment door which is exposed to the outside air and is made of steel, which has high thermal conductivity. As a result, the total costs of repair have increased with the number of disputes with residents. In this study, therefore, we investigate materials and construction methods used in apartment door, perform a computer simulation to find out possible improvements, and then suggest the dew point to prevent the occurrence of condensation throughout simulation. The results indicate that the temperature that condensation does not occur is $15.4^{\circ}C$, and the optimum method of achieving this dew point is shown to be a door frame system including a large vertical slot to decrease the area of thermal conduction between the outer and inner portions of the door frame. Mock-up tests show that the surface temperature of the door frame was higher than the dew point, and the system can withstand severe cold conditions of $-20^{\circ}C$. In application test, the surface temperature of door frame with vertical slots is $5.9^{\circ}C$in average, which is higher than the existing door frame. Furthermore, in the temperature distribution of the surrounding door measured with infrared ray camera, the existing door shows the high temperature distribution indicating lack of insulation, but the improved door shows the low temperature distribution indicating higher insulation.

  • The present study investigates noise and condensation characteristics of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is widely used for drainage piping materials, complex double structure by comparing to those of PVC single structure piping materials. In addition, effects of insulation on drainage noise has been measured experimentally. As the results of the experiments, noise reduction effect of PVC complex double structure is superior to that of PVC single structure in terms of elbow and vertical piping materials which are employed for drainage pipes of toilet bowls and bathtub. The insulation barely have effect on the noise reduction in case of the PVC single structure since there is almost no changes in noise occurrence even though the insulation is applied on both elbow and vertical piping materials. Temperature differences between inside and outside of the pipes have been measures for the PVC single and complex double structures as well. In consequence, outside temperature of the PVC complex double structure is higher than that of the PVC single structure. The condensation occurrence time of the PVC complex double structure shows a distinct difference from that of the PVC single structure, thus, the PVC complex double structure has outstanding effect on preventing the condensation.

  • In the normal Refrigeration process, the condensation heat of refrigerant s not been used because of its low-temperature waste heat. To recover the condensation waste heat of R-12 refrigerator, a drying and hot water system was designed and experimented. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. As the temperature a temosphere was increased, the temperature of discharge gas of compressor was increased. And the temperature was $80-84^{\circ}C$ for air condensing type and was $68-71^{\circ}C$ for water condensing type during summer. 2. The condensation waste heat could be obtained up to $50-55^{\circ}C$ of drying heat-source and Hot water in summer. In this case, recovered rate was about $73\%$. And the more temperature of drying Heat-source and Hot water were increased, the more a recovered rate were decreased. 3. When comparing drying characteristics of Agro-products in dryer of waste heat utilization and Hot air, there was no quality difference in products. But drying time of the former was 3 Hours longer than the latter. 4. The condensation waste heat of compressor could be applied into the drying of marine products, the predrying of agro-products and making hot water. And showed high possibility of the waste heat using in low-temperature storage.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare sealing ability between lateral condensation and continuous wave of condensation in depend of root canal curvature. In this study, we divided fifty-six human molar teeth into two group in depend of Schneider method, and then subdivided them into four experimental group (each group is composed of twelve teeth) by canal curvature and obturation method, and eight teeth were served as positive and negative controls. Specimens were prepared by Quantac 2000 series file and obturated by lateral condensation or System B. Specimens were immersed in india ink for 7 days, decalcified by 10% nitric acid, dehydrated by 75, 95 and 100% alcohol in order, cleared by methyl salicylate and then measured of dye penetration with stereomicroscope(${\times}6.5$ magnification) and Image Pro plus. The data were analyzed stastically by one-way ANOVA and Scheffe test. The data were as follows: 1. The mean leakage was $0.725{\pm}1.167$ for group A, $0.813{\pm}0.921$ for group B, $0.809{\pm}0.997$ for group C, $1.111{\pm}1.147$ for group D, but no significant difference among them(p>0.05). 2. Lateral condensation had better sealing ability than continuous wave of condensation, but no significant difference among them(p>0.05). 3. There was no significant difference between root canal curvature degree and microleakage(p>0.05).
