Temperature characteristics of condenser and evaporator of Air-conditioner applying variable capacity compressor under cooling condition (가변용량 압축기를 적용한 에어컨의 냉방운전 시 응축 및 증발온도 특성)

  • In order to investigate the cooling capacity of an air-conditioner applying a variable capacity compressor and the temperature characteristics on a condenser and an evaporator, the experiment on the operation characteristics of the air-conditioner was performed along a compressor operation ratio and an indoor/outdoor temperatures, under a cooling operation mode. The system characteristics were measured by the psychrometric calorimeter. The cooling capacity increased with decreasing the outdoor temperature and increasing the indoor temperature. Also, it increased with increasing the compressor operation ratio. The temperature of the condenser was more sensitive for the variation of the outdoor temperature and the temperature of the evaporator was more sensitive for the variation of the indoor temperature. The operation characteristics of the cycle used in this present were also analyzed by a pressure-enthalpy chart.

Investigation on the Reduction Effect on Cooling Power Consumption and Operating Cost of Mist-spray Outdoor Units in Air Conditioner

  • The use of the air conditioner is increasing due to the rise of the outdoor temperature during summer, and the problems of the fire and the cooling performance deterioration are caused due to lack of maintenance of the outdoor unit. In particular, overall performance of cooling system and efficiency in outdoor units have been degraded due to an intake of high-temperature outdoor air thereby increasing cooling energy and operating cost. Thus, this study aimed to increase efficiency of outdoor units by evaporating and cooling intake air through mist spray at the intake port surface in the outdoor unit. The measurements results showed that total power consumption of misting outdoor unit compared to that of conventional outdoor units was reduced by 21% approximately, and total power consumption of the entire system including pump was reduced by 16.7%. In addition, the operating cost including water use was reduced by 13.5% approximately. In summary, if a mist-spray nozzle kit is installed in air-cooled outdoor units, the reduction in the usage of cooling energy and operating cost will be achieved without replacement of existing cooling systems or a large scale of repairs.

Study on the Personal Air-Conditioning System Considering Human Thermal Adaptation (인간의 열적 적응성을 고려한 퍼스널 공조시스템의 개발)

  • In this paper, a personal air-conditioning system considering the human thermal adaptability is analyzed. Although the conventional personal air-conditioner was proofed to be satisfactory in providing for the thermal comfort, it is being questioned on the term of its energy efficiency. Therefore, it is important and urgent to develop new types of personal air-conditioning system with sustainable control strategy that can ensure energy saving and thermal comfort simultaneously. In this study, we first examined the problems of the conventional personal air-conditioning system with field interview and laboratory experiment in terms of usage, management and thermal comfort, and proposed the energy-saving personal air-conditioning system considering the human thermal adaptation. Then a laboratory experiment was performed to analyze the characteristics of the human thermal comfort under severe indoor thermal conditions, which were controlled using a new personal air-conditioning unit designed according to the proposal. The results help to illustrate the alleviation effect of the new personal air-conditioning system, and indicate that the thermal alleviation time is useful to maintain the thermal comfort with efficient usage of energy.

  • It is getting more important that energy efficiency and manufacturing cost of the electric motor in appliance. The SRM has been alternative choice. But acoustic noise and harshness in this motor was widely known. So this paper had been studied on the noise reduction of a SRM in air conditioner. This works include some parameters regarding to blown noise sources like a reluctance torque ripple, air gap eccentricity, Especially, it was focused on dynamic characteristics of the system based on mechanical viewpoint. It came to successful results. Besides, this gave us a validity of phase excitation in experimental measurements.

  • The electro-magnetic noise generated from fan-driving motor is one of important items in view of abnormal noise which affect the quality of air conditioner noise. The electro-magnetic noise of the outdoor unit is identified by the serial experiments for related parts, whose effects are verified to give proper measures for reduced noise level. The weight of fan appears to be the most important factor, and the stiffness of the frame, such as motor bracket is shown to be important also.

  • The reduction of chopping noise generated from inverter compressor and the piping design reducing vibration are the most important items in the quality of air conditioner. The chopping noise is identified by the study of the relationship between carrier frequency and natural frequency of the compressor shell. The high carrier frequency is the key factor in reduction of carrier noise. To keep the natural frequencies of the system as far as away from the operating frequencies appears to be the most important factor in the design of piping system.

  • A Single-phase Active Rectifier (SAR) [4-6] with high power factor capability is adopted to satisfy the international harmonic current standards such as IEC 1000-3-2. To minimize the input current distortion and to apply the control IC, such as FA5331, UC3854, ML4821 and so forth, the new adequate sensing circuits of the input voltage and current are proposed. There are tow methods applicable the SAR to inverter air-conditioner from the viewpoint of both efficiency and cost. The selecting methods of the passive components are presented for the two approaches. Using the determined components, the loss analyses are carried out. The prototype SAR circuits of these two approaches with 3kW power consumption are built and the operation and performance of the circuits with power factor correction capability are verified through the experimental results.

  • A lot of conventional automotive components driven by mechanical power source are being replaced with electrical ones to comply with the demands of market and customer, therefore the amount of electric energy used in a vehicle will be increased continuously. The increment of electric power demand causes interest on new higher power system such as 42V Power Net, and furthermore necessity for development of energy storage device is highlighted recently. This paper present the design of the BLDC motor for electric air-conditioner in 42V system and compare with the characteristics of several type BLDC motor.
