This study is to present the design methods in the Schrider House executed by the Dutch architect G. Th, Rieveld. The plastic principles which underlies the architecture design are examined through the analysis of the 'new structural joint system (Cartesian Coordinate System) ' and ' Color-Plasticity ' which characterized a series of his furniture design from 1918 to 1924. It indicates that Reitveld attempted to realize the simplicity, clarity and flexibility of spatial expression in his first independent architecture by the application of technical skills which have been developed in his early days.

This study focused on the transition from modularity of a mechanical construction system to the seriality in a digital production system in architecture and arguing how digital design process affects the design of surface in the contemporary architecture and development of digital technology actively intermediate surface of architecture and expressive characteristics of media on surface. The analysis of two exhibition facilities of Herzog & de Meuron expose process of fabrication in the surface design and makes possible to implementation of the concept of code to seriality which shows images employed to reveal immediate representation of the perceptual communication with humans and architecture through the role and significance of digital design techniques.

In this paper, anew parallel processing system based on a cluster architecture which provides scalability of a parallel processing system while maintains shared memory multiprocessor characteristics is proposed. In recent days low cost, high performnce microprocessors have led to construction of large scale parallel processing systems. Such parallel processing systems provides large scalability but are mainly used for scientific applications which have large data parallelism. A shared memory multiprocessor system like TICOM is currently used as aserver for the commercial application, however, the shared memory multiprocessor system is known to have very limited scalability. The proposed architecture can support scalability and performance of the parallel processing system while it provides adaptability for the commerical application, hence it can overcome the limitation of the shared memory multiprocessor. The architecture and characteristics of the proposed system shall be described. A proprietary hierarchical crsossbar network is designed for this system, of which the protocol, routing and switching technique and the signal transfer technique are optimized for the proposed architecture. The design trade-offs for the network are described in this paper and with simulation usihng the SES/workbench, it is explored that the network fits to the proposed architecture.

Since customer's demand is various and product life cycle is getting shorter, many manufacturing company is trying to reduce product development time and cost. For that reason they make an effort to design product on collaborative environment. The various activities in a product development are highly distributed. This distributed nature of the activities implies that teams will be working indifferent place and technical environments. Thus at a given time, teams might work on he same product from different perspectives. This will require efficient communication amongst the various individuals and the various softwaretools that are used by them. Therefore, there is a need for a computerized frame work that can support distributed design such that participants from different backgrounds collaborate towards one common goal. This paper presents the architecture of a collaborative design system. It then reports on the study of computerized frame work focused on collaboration for product development.

This paper is intended to suggest some reference materials for future specialization of university education about healthcare facility design in Korea, by reviewing the degree systems and curriculum of 5 universities where architecture departments have specialized program for healthcare facility design in USA. Research method includes the navigation of related homepages, the e-mail contacts with the professors in charge, and the analysis of collected materials. Some conclusions can be summarized as following : Degrees of the specialized programs under concentration or track system are awarded as the same title as master program in the department of Architecture. Specialized education programs can be largely classified by concentration/track systems( Clemson University, University of Kansas and Arizona State University) which are operated independently in general and certificate system(Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University) which adds some healthcare related courses to general master program in the department of Architecture. As distinctive curriculum from 5 Universities, Clemson University which offers almost courses related to healthcare facility design, University of Kansas which provides internships(6 credits each) for summer term & fall semester of 2nd year, and Texas Tech University where certificate program is co-operated by architecture and nursing department can be mentioned. In order to pursuit the specialization of university education about healthcare facility design in the department of Architecture, it would be desirable to proceed it after setting the direction such as concentration, track or certificate system according to the various circumstances & conditions of the department concerned.

Starting in modern times by Le Corbusier, architectures made by concretes are still developing in these times. For several decades, the shape of box architecture has been the most familiar type of buildings. Of course "The concrete is the type of box building" isn't always right, but what we have most seen was the buildings which has been stylized and made by concretes. Through modern times to these days based on international style and functionalism, the type of box building was the most effective and good profit type of architecture which has not disregarded the capitalism. Free-form building are becoming a common place, and many of these are designed and constructed using sophisticated techniques. The main technique being used is Generative Technology of Form for free-form construction. People's interest is growing in this, and it is becoming widely used both abroad and domestically. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the use of Generative Technology of Form which is a digitally adapted design methodology in architecture. The digital design process used for contemporary buildings share many typical features that exist within a standard digital template, but also an increasing amount of mass customization that has to be produced at an additional cost. This paper will summarize these features in terms of free-form architecture, and in terms of the digital design process. In fact, 3D models have to be conceded as main design products considering features of Free Form Design Architecture. However it is practical to design twice over, because all forms of architectural drawings are 2D. From now on, design of Free Form Design Building is not to separate between design process and practical process, but to compound them as unified design system applied the process to communicate information interactively. For this, it should be required to impose unified digital design process and perform researches about effective way to apply in the field of Free-form Design Architecture.

Recently, a concept of damped outrigger system has been proposed for tall buildings. Structural characteristics and design method of this system were not sufficiently investigated to date. In this study, control performance of damped outrigger system for building structures subjected to seismic excitations has been investigated. And optimal design method of damped outrigger system has been proposed using multi-objective genetic algorithm. To this end, a simplified numerical model of damped outrigger system has been developed. State-space equation formulation proposed in previous research was used to make a numerical model. Multi-objective genetic algorithms has been employed for optimal design of the stiffness and damping parameters of the outrigger damper. Based on numerical analyses, it has been shown that the damped outrigger system control dynamic responses of the tall buildings subjected to earthquake excitations in comparison with a traditional outrigger system.
In this paper we present a new-generation sensor network processor which is not optimized in circuit level, but in system architecture level. The new design build on a conventional processor architecture, improving the design by focusing on application oriented specification, ISA, and micro-architectural optimization that reduce overall design size and advance energy-per-instruction. The design employs harvard architecture, 8-bit data paths, and an compact 19 bit wide RISC ISA. The design also features a unique interrupt handler which offloads periodical monitoring jobs from the main part of CPU. Our most efficient design is capable of running at 300 KHz (0.3 MIPS) while consuming only about few pJ/instruction.

The expanded spiral model in this paper consists of five processes of architecture design, architectural construction, architectural maintenance, operation, and architectural management. The former four processes are executed alternatively, while the latter architectural management process is executed continuously interacting with the other processes during the whole life cycle of the system. The expanded spiral model provides a conceptual framework to sort discussions of architectural degeneration into those of product-oriented processes and those of management processes, making it possible to incorporate the models and body of knowledge about project and program management especially those of Project Management Institute, into discussions of architectural degeneration. A good architecture decomposes the software-intensive system into components mutually interacting in a well-formed structure. The architecture design process and the architectural construction process together create the object system with well-designed architecture. The architectural maintenance process prevents the implemented architecture deviate from the designed architecture. The architectural management process monitors the changes of requirements including architecturally significant requirements, supports the other processes to be executed reflecting various perspectives of stake-holders, and creates and documents the reasons of architectural decisions, which is considered as a key element of the architecture.
