Nitrogen compounds in municipal wastewater can be divided into biodegradable and nonbiodegradable fractions with biodegradability. Biodegradable nitrogen compounds can be removed through biological nitrification and denitrification processes, and nonbiodegradable nitrogen compounds affect the effluent quality of biological nutrient removal processes. The amount of nitrifiable nitrogen compounds, which are the sum of ammonia and biodegradable organic nitrogen, has been estimated by respirometry. Respirometry shows good estimation of the concentration of nitrifiable nitrogen when a synthetic sample of ammonium chloride is dosed. The estimated concentration of nitrifiable nitrogen compounds in municipal wastewater is close to ammonia concentration in municipal wastewater, but it is lower than that for the synthetic sample. If nitrogen assimilated into cell synthesis of nitrifiers and heterotrophs is considered, the total amounts of nitrifiable nitrogen compounds, which are nitrified and assimilated, could be more accurately estimated. The concentration of nitrifiable nitrogen compounds, which are biodegradable, is about 31 mg N/l, and this is 119% of ammonia and 94% of total nitrogen. Ammonia, nitrate, biodegradable organic nitrogen, and nonbiodegradable nitrogen are about 79%, 1%, 15%, and 5% of the total nitrogen in municipal wastewater, respectively.
Disaggregation model has recently become a major technique in the field of synthetic generation and the model is possibly one of the most widely acepted tools in stochastic hydrology. The application of disaggregation model is evaluated with the streamflow data at the Waegwan and Hyunpung stage gaugin station on the main stem of the Nakdong River. The disaggregation process of annual streamflow data and the method of parameter estimation for the model is reviewed and the statistical analysis of the generated monthly streamflows such as a computation of moment estimation of covariance and correlogram analysis is made. The results, disaggregated monthly streamflow, obtained by Disaggregation Basic Model for single site are compared with the historical streamflow data and also with the other model, Thomas-Fiering Model. The generated monthly streamflow data by two models have been investigated and verified by comparision of mean and standard deviation between the historical and generated data.
This study suggests a novel approach of estimating stream flow discharge using the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images taken from 2015 to 2017 by European Space Agency Sentinel-1 satellite. Fifteen small to medium sized rivers in the Han River basin were selected as study area, and the SAR satellite images and flow data from water level and flow observation system operated by the Korea Institute of Hydrological Survey were used for model construction. First, we apply the histogram matching technique to 12 SAR images that have undergone various preprocessing processes for error correction to make the brightness distribution of the images the same. Then, the flow estimation model was constructed by deriving the relationship between the area of the stream water body extracted using the threshold classification method and the in-situ flow data. As a result, we could construct a power function type flow estimation model at the fourteen study areas except for one station. The minimum, the mean, and the maximum coefficient of determination ($R^2$) of the models of at fourteen study areas were 0.30, 0.80, and 0.99, respectively.

To choose appropriate countermeasures against potential coastal disaster damages caused by a storm surge, it is necessary to estimate the frequency of storm surge heights estimation. As the coastal populations size in the past was small, the tropical cyclone risk model (TCRM) was used to generate 176,689 synthetic typhoons. In simulation, historical paths and central pressures were incorporated as a probability density function. Moreover, to consider the typhoon characteristics that resurfaced or decayed after landfall on the southeast coast of China, incorporated the shift angle of the historical typhoon as a function of the probability density function and applied it as a damping parameter. Thus, the passing rate of typhoons moving from the southeast coast of China to the south coast has improved. The characteristics of the typhoon were analyzed from the historical typhoon information using correlations between the central pressure, maximum wind speed ($V_{max}$) and the maximum wind speed radius ($R_{max}$); it was then applied to synthetic typhoons. The storm surges were calculated using the ADCIRC model, considering both tidal and synthetic typhoons using automated Perl script. The storm surges caused by the probabilistic synthetic typhoons appear similar to the recorded storm surges, therefore this proposed scheme can be applied to the storm surge simulations. Based on these results, extreme values were calculated using the Generalized Extreme Value (GEV) method, and as a result, the 100-year return period storm surge was found to be satisfactory compared with the calculated empirical simulation value. The method proposed in this study can be applied to estimate the frequency of storm surges in coastal areas.

This paper presents a simple method of rotational motion estimation and correction for roll axis stabilization of an image. The scheme first computes the rotation center by taking least squares of selected local velocity vectors, and the rotational angle is found from special subset of motion vectors. Roll motion correction is then performed by the nearest neighbor interpolation technique. To show the effectiveness of our approach, the synthetic and real images are evaluated, resulting in better performance than the previous ones.
This paper presents a simple approach on the rotational motion estimation and correction for the roll stabilization of the sight system. The algorithm first computes the rotational center from the selected local velocity vectors of related pixels by least square methods. And then, rotational angle is found from the special subset of the motion vector. Finally, motion correction is performed by the nearest neighbor interpolation technique. In order to show the performance of the algorithm, the evaluation for the synthetic and real image was performed. The test results show good performance compared with previous approach.

This paper treats the DIS (Digital Image Stabilization) problem subject to base motions such as translation, rotation and zoom. For the local motion estimation from a raw image, the Harris corner detection algorithm is exploited to extract feature points, and comparing those of consecutive images, the zoom ratio (scale factor) is computed. For the global motion estimation, an equivalent model is derived to account for a 3-dimensional composite motion from which the center point and Euler angle can be determined. Finally, the motion compensation follows. To show the effectiveness of the present DIS scheme, experimental results for synthetic images are illustrated.

Creeks, defined by creek's improvement law, have strong localities in the flow characteristics and environmental condition. During the recent ten-years, lots of flood damages have occurred rather in the creeks. However, quantity and stream design information are poor while the national-class and local-class streams have sufficient. This causes a problem on improving the safety from flood. This study focuses on assessment of practical applicability for design flood estimation models. For this, Rational formula, Clark's model and Nakayath synthetic unit hydrograph method are estimated by data of the creek comprehensive improvement plan report, etc.

In the Korean Economically Active Population Survey(EAPS), the sample sizes for small areas are typically too small to provide reliable estimators because the EAPS has been designed to produce unemployment statistics for large areas such as Metropolitan Cities and Province. In this study, we consider the synthetic and composite estimators for the unemployment rate of small areas, and apply them to real data on Choongbook province which is from the Korean EAPS of December 2000. The mean square errors of these estimators were estimated by the Jackknife method, and the efficiencies of small area estimators were evaluated in terms of the relative standard errors and the relative root mean square errors. As a result, the composite estimator is much more efficient than other estimators and it turns out that the composite estimator can produce the reliable estimates of the unemployment rate of small areas under the current EAPS system.
Remote Sensing Monitoring and Loss Estimated System of Flood Disaster based on GIS is an integrated system comprised flood disaster information receiving and collection, flood disaster simulation, and flood disaster estimation. When the system receives and collects remote sensing monitoring and conventional investigation information, the distributional features of flood disaster on space and time is obtained by means of image processing and information fusion. The economic loss of flood disaster can be classified into two pus: direct economic loss and indirect economic loss. The estimation of direct economic loss applies macroscopic economic analysis methods, i.e. applying Product (Industry and Agriculture Gross Product or Gross Domestic Product - GDP) or Unit Synthetic Economic Loss Index, direct economic loss can be estimated. Estimating indirect economic loss applies reduction coefficient methods with direct economic loss. The system can real-timely ascertains flood disaster and estimates flood Loss, so that the science basis fur decision-making of flood control and relieving disaster may be provided.
