Highly conducting Polypyrroles soluble in organic solvents were synthesized using functional doping agents, such as mixed dopants [sodium di(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (DEHSNa) Naphthalenesulfonic acid (NSA), DEHSNa Toluenesulfonic acid (TSA), DEHSNa Dodecylbenzensulfonic acid (DBSA)] and mixed oxidants [$(NH_4)_2S_2O_8{\cdot}FeCl_3$, $(NH_4)_2S_2O_8{\cdot}Fe_2(SO_4)_3$]. Ppy-DEHS powder using an oxidant, such as $(NH_4)_2S_2O_8$ (10 wt%/vol.) showed higher solubility than the mixed dopant (DEHSNa NSA, 3 wt%/vol.) and mixed oxidant [$(NH_4)_2S_2O_8{\cdot}Fe_2(SO_4)_3$, 4 wt%/vol.] in DMF solvent. But Ppy-DEHS free standing film using a mixed dopant, such as DEHSNa NSA (16 S/cm) and a mixed oxidant, such as $(NH_4)_2S_2O_8{\cdot}Fe_2(SO_4)_3$ (13 S/cm) cast from DMF solvent showed higher electrical conductivity than $(NH_4)_2S_2O_8$ (2 S/cm). For the Ppy-DEHS films using various condition cast from DMF solvent, three dimensional various range hopping model (3D VRH ; $\{{\sigma}_{dc}(T)={\sigma}_oexp[-(T_o/T)^{1/4}]\}$) provided fit to the results of temperature dependence of electrical conductivity measurement.

Alumina powder have been expanded its application in industry and required to control its morphology such as powder size and aspect ratio of single particle. It can be synthesized by molten - salt method which is possible to obtain various shapes of ceramic particles by controlling the growth direction because each crystal face has different growth rate. In this study, various combinations of salts such as NaCl, $Na_2SO_4$, $Na_3PO_4$ and their mixture were used for control the growth of plate like alumina particle from the initial stage of synthesis because salt having different ionic strength can control the growth direction of ceramic particle under its melting condition around $800{\sim}900^{\circ}C$, and growth behavior of plate-like alumina particle with different reaction conditions such as temperature and concentration on the crystal size and shape was studied.
Ulmus macrocarpa has been used in Korean medicinal food material to physical disorder or tonic material. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate splenocyte life span expansion effects of Ulmus macrocarpa water extract (UMWE) in general cell culture condition. Splenocytes were handled in the presence of 100 μg/ml UMWE for several different time conditions. Live cells were detected with Hoechst 33,342 dye and cell survival molecules were identified through Western blot. Changes in level of cytokine synthesis were evaluated by ELISA. UMWE showed an effect on increased splenocyte survival. UMWE elevated slightly PI3K phosphorylation and ERK1/2 phosphorylation used at 48 hr and 96 hr. Moreover, Bcl-2 was elevated at 48 hr and 96 hr in UMWE-treated splenocytes. UMWE decreased caspase-3 level at 48 hr and 96 hr. ICAD protein increased at 48 hr culturing time. Hematopoietin IL-2 cytokine was down-regulated, however IL-4 hematopoietin cytokine was up-regulated in UMWE treated cell culture media. Increased IFN-γ levels were verified in the supernatant of UMWE-treated cells in all periods (48 hr and 96 hr). Increased patterns in the production of IL-12 cytokine occurred as compared with control after 48 and 96 hr in UMWE-treated-cell cultures. These results suggested that UMWE can prolong splenocyte life span by controlling various signal factors and cytokines.

For the maximum production of pullulan from glucose as a carbon source, the effects of glucose concentration, pH and dissolved oxygen concentration on the cell growth and mass production of high-molecular weight pullulan by A. pullulans ATCC 42023 were evaluated. A. pullulans showed optimum pullulan productivity when glucose concentration was 0.3M (54g/L). And inhibitory effects on the cell growth and the pullulan production were observed at the glucose concentration higher than 0.3M (54g/L). The influence of pH control and dissolved oxygen on the pullulan production and growth of A. pullulans was studied. In shake-flasks, maximum pullulan production was obtained with $11.98g/{\ell}$ when initial pH was 6.5. In the batch fermentation, the maximum pullulan production of $13.31g/{\ell}$ was obtained with constant pH 4.5. And it was found that pullulan yield and synthesis rate increased with oxygen availability. For the production of commercially useful pullulan with high-molecular weight, a mixed carbon source, which was a mixture of glucose and glucosamine, was used for the pullulan fermentation with A. pullulans. On the basis of 5% mixed carbon source, culture with 3% glucosamine with 2% glucose was optimum condition for the production of high (M.W.> 1,000,000) and medium (M.W.> 200,000) molecular weight pullulan with considerable yields of cell mass and product. And the influence of pH control on the molecular weight of pullulan was studied in batch fermentation. It was found that the productivity of high-molecular weight pullulan with pH control at 6.5 was higher than that with no pH control.
Haematococcus pluvialis is a commercial microalga that can produce high quantities of astaxanthin. Under induced conditions, some important changes in the subcellular structures related to astaxanthin accumulation were observable. For example, a large number of astaxanthin granules, oil structures and starch granules appeared in the thick-walled cells; Astaxanthin granules gradually dissolved into the oil structures and spread throughout the entire cell with the fusion and diffusion process of oil structures during the middle and late stages of induction; The plastoglobules were closed to the newly formed structures, and some plastoglobules would abnormally increase in size under stress. Based on observations of cell damage, the degradation of membrane structures, such as chloroplasts, was found to be the primary form of damage during the early stage of induction. During the middle stage of induction, some transparent holes were exposed in the dissolving astaxanthin granules in the cytoplasm. In thick-walled cells, these transparent holes were covered by oil substances dissolving astaxanthin, thereby avoiding further damage to cells. Given the relatively few oil structures, in non-thick-walled cells, the transparent holes expanded to form multiple transparent areas, eventually resulting in the rupture and death of cells. These results suggested that the high level of synthesis and the wide range diffusion of oil explained the expansion of astaxanthin in H. pluvialis.

We conducted investigation on polymeric binders for anti-static coating agent which can maintain stability under the high-voltaic condition. Various polyesters composed of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and polypropylene glycol (PPG) were synthesized and studied in term of the variation in the surface resistance of the film made from coating solution composed of a conductive polymer and these polyesters as a binder. We found that the surface resistance displayed $10^7{\sim}10^8{\Omega}/{\square}$ regardless of chemical composition of binders under the potential of 10 V. Whereas, the surface resistance surged to higher than $2{\times}10^{10}{\Omega}/{\square}$ when 1000 V was applied, rendering it improper for anti-static purpose. When 1,4 butanediol (BD) was incorporated into polyesters ([PEG]/[PPG]/[BD] = 25.0/67.5/7.5), the surface resistance showed $2.8{\times}10^9{\Omega}/{\square}$ under 1000 V, acceptable for anti-static application. These observations may indicate that the hydrophobic nature of BD makes a significant contribution to the surface resistance at a high positive potential.

Titanium and its alloys are widely used as implants in orthopedics, dentistry and cardiology due to their outstanding properties, such as high strength, high level of hemocompatibility and enhanced biocompatibility. Hence, recent works showed that the synthesis of new Ti-based alloys for implant application involves more biocompatible metallic alloying element, such as, Nb, Hf, Zr and Mo. In particular, Nb and Hf are one of the most effective Ti ${\beta}-stabilizer$ and reducing the elastic modulus. Plasma electrolyte oxidation (PEO) is known as excellent method in the biocompatibility of biomaterial due to quickly coating time and controlled coating condition. The anodized oxide layer and diameter modulation of Ti alloys can be obtained function of improvement of cell adhesion. Silicon (Si) and magnesium (Mg) has a beneficial effect on bone. Si in particular has been found to be essential for normal bone and cartilage growth and development. In vitro studies have shown that Mg plays very important roles in essential for normal growth and metabolism of skeletal tissue in vertebrates and can be detected as minor constituents in teeth and bone. The aim of this study is to research Si and Mg doped hydroxyapatite film formation by plasma electrolytic oxidation. Ti-29Nb-xHf (x= 0, 3, 7 and 15wt%, mass fraction) alloys were prepared Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys of containing Hf up from 0 wt% to 15 wt% were melted by using a vacuum furnace. Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys were homogenized for 2 hr at $1050^{\circ}C$. Each alloy was anodized in solution containing typically 0.15 M calcium acetate monohydrate + 0.02 M calcium glycerophosphate at room temperature. A direct current power source was used for the process of anodization. Anodized alloys was prepared using 270V~300V anodization voltage at room. A Si and Mg coating was produced by RF-magnetron sputtering system. RF power of 100W was applied to the target for 1h at room temperature. The microstructure, phase and composition of Si and Mg coated oxide surface of Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys were examined by FE-SEM, EDS, and XRD.

Commercially pure titanium (CP Ti) and Ti-6Al-4V alloys have been widely used for biomedical applications. However, the use of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy in biomaterial is then a subject of controversy because aluminum ions and vanadium oxide have potential detrimental influence on the human body due to vanadium and aluminum. Manganese(Mn) plays very important roles in essential for normal growth and metabolism of skeletal tissue in vertebrates and can be detected as minor constituents in teeth and bone. Radio frequency(RF) magnetron sputtering in the various PVD methods has high deposition rates, high-purity films, extremely high adhesion of films, and excellent uniform layers for depositing a wide range of materials, including metals, alloys and ceramics like a hydroxyapatite. The aim of this study is to research the Mn coatings on the micro-pore formed Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys by RF-magnetron sputtering for dental applications. As a growth-template of ZnO nanorods (NR), a hexagonal $\beta-Ni(OH)_2$ nanosheet (NS) was synthesized with the low temperature hydrothermal process and its microstructure was investigated using a high resolution scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. Zinc nitrate hexahydrate was hydrolyzed by hexamethylenetetramine with the same mole ratio and various temperatures, growth times and total concentrations. The optimum hydrothermal processing condition for the best crystallinity of hexagonal $\beta-Ni(OH)_2$ NS was determined to be with 3.5 mM at $95^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The prepared $Ni(OH)_2$ NSs were two dimensionally arrayed on a substrate using an air-water interface tapping method, and the quality of the array was evaluated using an X-ray diffractometer. Because of the similarity of the lattice parameter of the (0001) plane between ZnO (wurzite a = 0.325 nm, c = 0.521 nm) and hexagonal $\beta-Ni(OH)_2$ (brucite a = 0.313 nm, c = 0.461 nm) on the synthesized hexagonal $\beta-Ni(OH)_2$ NS, ZnO NRs were successfully grown without seeds. At 35 mM of divalent Zn ion, the entire hexagonal $\beta-Ni(OH)_2$ NSs were covered with ZnO NRs, and this result implies the possibility that ZnO NR can be grown epitaxially on hexagonal $\beta-Ni(OH)_2$ NS by a soluble process. After the thermal annealing process, $\beta-Ni(OH)_2$ changed into NiO, which has the property of a p-type semiconductor, and then ZnO and NiO formed a p-n junction for a large area light emitting diode.

Diacylglycerol (DAG) were synthesized by enzymatic esterification of glyceryl monooleate (GMO) and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in a shaking water bath. The reaction was catalyzed by Lipozyme TLIM (immobilized lipase from Thermomyces lanuginosa). Effects of reaction time, molar ratio, enzyme road and molecular sieves were studied. Results of normal-phase high performance liquid chromatography (NP-HPLC) analysis were performed. At 1:1, 2:1 and 3:1 (GMO : CLA) molar ratio and Lipozyme TLIM of 20% amount, DAG were produced in 42.6, 54.4 and 54.6 area% in 1 hr, respectively. When different Lipozyme TLIM amounts (2, 5, 10, 20%) were used with 2:1 (GMO : CLA) molar ratio, DAG were produced 21.4 (24 hr), 51.7 (12 hr), 56.2 (6 hr) and 54.4 (1 hr) area%, respectively. The reaction in the absence of molecular sieves increased DAG contents. The maximum DAG concentration conditions were obtained with molar ratio of 2:1 (GMO : CLA), lipase concentration of 10% (of substrate), 10% molecular sieves and reaction time of 6 hours at 55$^{\circ}C$. Under this reaction condition, produced DAG-rich oil was composed of 69 area% DAG, 7.9 area% TAG, 2 area% FFA, and 21.1 area% MAG.
