Lipase-catalyzed Transeseterification of Corn Oil, Conjugated Linoleic Acid, and Capric Acid in Batch Type Reactor

  • Structured lipids (SLs) are defined as triacylglycerols to change the fatty acid composition in the glycerol backbone and lipases are known as a powerful tool for the syntheses of SLs. Structured lipid from corn oil, capric acid, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) by transesterification reaction and using several amounts of immobilized lipase RM IM (from Rhizomucor miehei) was studied, and 4% of lipase amount was selected for further study as the optimal amount. Comparison the chemical properties (free fatty acid value, iodine value, saponification value, tocopherols, and color analysis), solidification behavior, and volatile fractions (from headspace SPME GC-MS) between com oil and SL com oil was obtained.

Syntheses and Central Nervous Depressant Activity of Piperine Derivatives(I) 3,4-methylenedioxycinnamic Acid Derivatives (Piperine 유도체의 합성 및 중추억제작용에 관한 연구(I) 3,4-Methylenedioxycinnamic Acid 유도체)

  • Piperine was reported to have a potential central nervous system (CNS) depressant activity in mice. In order to search a more active and less toxic compound than piperine and to elucidate the active group of piperine, the aromatic amides (10 compeunds) and aromatic esters (10 cempounds) of 3, 4-methylenedioxycinnamic acid were synthesized and evaluated on CNS depressant activity in comparison with piperine. The pharmacological tests conducted are as follows; (1) Acute, toxicity, (2) Antagonism against strychnine induced conduced convulsion, (3) Antagonism against maximal electrobhock seizure, (4) Rotarod test, (5) Potentiation of hexobarbital sleeping time. It was observed that 3, 4-methylendioxycinanamic acid derivatives were less toxic than piperine, and showed no significant CNS depressant activities. These facts indicate that the piperoyl group might be concerned with the pharmacological activity of piperine.

  • The synthetic methodologies for the preparation of C-nucleosides are divided into four categories, and each category is discussed in details. The chemical rections which lead to other C-nucleosides from preformed the natural product pseudouridine are described first, followed by synthesis of C-nucleosides by condensation of pre-formed heterocyclic base with sugar, and by construction of heterocyclic base from a carbohydrate intermediate that bear functional carbon fragment at the anomeric position. Finally, methods of total synthesis of C-nucleosides from carbohydrate and achiral starting materials are presented.

  • Fine ceramic particles of zirconia toughened alumina (ZTA), titania toughened alumina (TTA), and zirconia-titania toughened alumina (ZTTA) have been synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) at various temperatures from starting salt solutio ns of various compositions aiming for the development of catalytic material. These particles were characterized for properties such as shape, size and size distribution, diffraction pattern, and chemical and phase composition of elements by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), particle size analyzer (PSA), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Chemical compositions and sizes of ceramic composites have been controled by the stoichiometry of salt solutions and the flow rate of spraying solutions. The optimum experimental conditions for the various composite particle syntheses have been proposed.

  • The syntheses of DTPA-bis(amide) conjugates of phosphonated cyclohexane moieties (5a-d) and their Gd(III) complexes of the type $[Gd(L)(H_2O)]{\cdot}nH_2O$ (6a-d; L = 5a-d) are described. All new compounds have been characterized by microanalysis and spectroscopic techniques. High $r_1$ relaxivities of aqueous solutions of 6a-d are observed to be in the range of $10.7-18.3\;mM^{-1}sec^{-1}$, which compare much better than that of $Omniscan^{(R)}$ ($r_1=3.90\;mM^{-1}sec^{-1}$).

KIC06118779 and KIC08682849: Extremely low mass ratio contact binaries with quasi-cyclically varying O'Connell effects and strong anti-correlations in their ETV diagrams

  • The Kepler mission of NASA has enabled to discover a lot of new W UMa-type binaries with continuous light curves measured with unprecedented accuracy. Interestingly, their eclipsing time variation (hereafter ETV) diagrams show anti-correlation between primary and secondary minima, presumably occurred by continuous spot variation (Tran et al. 2013; Balaji et al. 2014). Two active Kepler binaries (KIC06118779 & KIC08682849), reported as showing the anti-correlation in ETV diagram, were investigated to see that the anti-correlations are correlated with time-variable O'connell effects appeared in their light curves. As a result, it was found that the O'connell effects for two binary stars have varied in quasi-sinusoidal ways similar to the patterns of their anti-correlation variations. In addition, our light curve syntheses of two binary stars with the latest version of the Wilson-Devinney code (Wilson & devinney 1971) show that they are very deep-contact binary system with extremely low mass ratios.

  • Recently perovskite materials with much cheaper cost and marvellous optoelectronic properties have been studied for next generation LED display devices overseas. Technology development trends of inorganic $CsPbX_3$(X=halogen) based LEDs (PeLEDs) with assumed high stability were investigated on literature worldwide. It was found that syntheses methods of these nanocrystals (NCs, mainly quantum dots, QDs) made great progress. A new room temperature synthesis method showed outstanding PL (photoluminescence) properties such as high quantum yield (QY), narrow emission width, storage stability comparable with, or often exceeding those of conventional hot injection method and CdSe@ZnS type inorganic colloidal QDs. PeLEDs with shell layers might be more promising, indicating urgent real research start of this solution processing technology for small businesses in Korea.

  • We report the syntheses bis-(N,N-diethylaminoethyl) perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic diimide (PDI) of lyotropic chromonic liquid crystal and it dissolves in photocurable ionic monomer solution. PDI-acrylic acid solution was observed whether liquid crystal phase appeared in each concentration. Thin film polarizer was prepared by simultaneously coating and aligning the solution of PDI-acrylic acid (in the chromonic nematic phase) onto glass substrates using a mechanical shearing force and was cured by irradiation of UV light. Also Photopatterned polarizer is manufactured by same process.

  • Organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) using organic semiconductors as an active layer are of interest for their use in low-cost, lightweight and flexible electronic products. Although the field-effect mobility of OTFTs is still lower than those of inorganic thin-film transistor, the advantages of easy manufacturing and processing make them suitable for selected applications. In this paper, we report the syntheses and characterization of new p-type OTFT materials.

Mechanochemical Synthesis of LaNiO3 Crystalline Phase from Mixture of La2O3sub> and NiO (La2O3의 메카노케미컬 합성에 의한 LaNiO3결정상 생성)

  • The syntheses of LaNiO$_3$Perovskite crystalline phase from mixtures of La$_2$O$_3$and NiO via it mechanochemical(used planetary mill) and a wet ball mill process were investigated. A single and stable LaNiO$_3$perovskite crystalline phase was successfully prepared by using a heat free mechanochemical process which produced a fine amorphous powder, while that phase was not formed in a wet ball mill process which needed heat treatment ranging from 500 to 150$0^{\circ}C$ and produced a coarse powder. It was shown that the LaNiO$_3$ceramics made of the mechanochemically synthesized powder possesed a good metallic characteristic.
