In 1961, the Republic of Korea's first newly-constructed government building was completed. The government building, as ROK office, was erected as a twin with the USOM office in Sejong-ro. The reason why the ROK office and the USOM office were erected as a twin building is that the two offices were part of Foreign Operation Administration's Seoul Buildings Project in 1954. Within the project, the FOA office and the ROK office were rarely separated, and naturally, the ROK office was built according to the US standards. The planning, design, and construction phases which led by the US government were involved in the US architecture, engineering-construction companies. Because those AEC companies were familiar with the US technology and standards. In the phase of construction, Korean companies took part in the process under the supervise of Vinnell Corporation. The US expected to transfer its 'modern' and 'developed' technology through this process. The completed ROK office was widely known as the 'modern style (hyundae-sik)' building, which was body forth as glasses and new facilities. These factors were what the US emphasized for exporting architecture. The modifier, 'modern style (hyundae-sik)', given to the ROK office in the 1950s was a synonym for any new feeling that had never been seen hitherto. The newness of the ROK office, the 'modern style (hyundae-sik)' building, was specified as materials and facilities that indicates modern technology while in the absence of adequate knowledge.
Terms are linguistic realization of technical concepts. Term constituents are important elements used for representing the concept. Since many new terms are created from the modification or combination of existing constituents, it is important to analyze term constituents for understanding the concept of the term. It means that term constituents offer clues for understanding the concept of terms. However, there are a couple of difficulties in matching concept unit and term constituents such as mismatching between a term constituent and a concept unit, homonym of term constituents and synonym of term constituents. To solve them, it is necessary to recognize concept units of term constituents. In this paper, we define an English term constituent as the concept unit and use an alignment algorithm between English-Korean term constituents in order to recognize concept units of term constituents. By our alignment algorithm we recognize Korean term constituents corresponding to an English term constituent with about $93\%$ precision.

We designed a structured folksonomy system in which queries can be expanded through tag control; equivalent, synonym or related tags are bound together, in order to improve the retrieval efficiency (recall and precision) of image data. Then, we evaluated the proposed system by comparing it to a tag-based system without tag control in terms of recall, precision, and user satisfaction. Furthermore, we also investigated which query expansion method is the most efficient in terms of retrieval performance. The experimental results showed that the recall, precision, and user satisfaction rates of the proposed system are statistically higher than the rates of the tag-based system, respectively. On the other hand, there are significant differences among the precision rates of query expansion methods but there are no significant differences among their recall rates. The proposed system can be utilized as a guide on how to effectively index and retrieve the digital content of digital library systems in the Library 2.0 era.
Description and identifications of 6 species belonging to genus Phintella from Korea are in insufficient and inaccurate situation. In the present paper, redescriptions illustrations and identification key are provided for 7 species of genus Phintella including P. popovi newly recorded in Korean spider fauna, and Ocius munitus described by Wesolowska (1981s) was synonymized to P.cavaleriei. For the author's identiication and pairing to be valid multivariate analysis was performed with 13 RVCs below STD 0.05 to 134 individuals. The result of discriminant analysis carried out with 13 RVCs of 134 individuals was not satisfactory, but cluster analysis performed with mean ratio values of 14 OTUs to 13 RVCs showed the same result with author's pairing except P.abnormis , which has larger dissimilarity than the pairs of the others. So pairing of 7 species was possible as a whole because one species only failed in pairing , even though this is imperful result. This method to be helpful to pairing test and identification if it were to improve.
Moniligastrids are an important yet often ignored earthworm group commonly found in cultivated soils, especially paddy, in the tropical East. Seven new taxa are: Drawida koreana austri, D. koreana nanjiro, D. koreana shindo, D. odaesan, D. jeombongsan, D. companio and D. csuzdii Blakemore spp. or sub-spp. nov. from Korea. Drawida csuzdii is the first new species from North Korea since Lumbricidae Eisenia koreana (Zicsi, 1972). Historical East Asian moniligastrids are reviewed chronologically and Drawida barwelli (Beddard, 1886), D. japonica (Michaelsen, 1892) and D. siemsseni Michaelsen, 1910 are compared on their museum types. These three taxa were thought similar and related to D. nepalensis Michaelsen, 1907 and its possible synonym D. burchardi Michaelsen, 1903 (priority!) and both of these to prior D. uniqua (Bourne, 1887). Indian Drawida calebi Gates, 1945 is compared to new material of D. japonica from Japan, and D. willsi Michaelsen, 1907 to the new sub-species of D. koreana Kobayashi, 1938 from Korea. Where available, mtDNA COI gene barcodes are provided to help objective determinations and a phylogram is provided with outgroup Ocnerodrilidae Eukerria saltensis (Beddard, 1895) itself found in rice paddy/irrigation. The challenge now is comparison of all early taxa in their various homelands in order to assess the genetic variability and taxonomic boundaries acceptable, especially for unpigmented D. barwelli and also for pink/grey D. japonica and blue/grey D. koreana. A checklist of moniligastrids is appended showing 22 species from China (including Hainan and Taiwan), 21 from Korea, nine from Japan and the Drawida ghilarovi Gates, 1969 species-complex from far eastern Russian (Siberia). Recent Drawida dandongensis Zhang & Sun, 2014 from Sino-Korean border is misdescribed and cannot be meaningfully compared to any other Drawidas.
The taxonomic validity of morphological group III Accnthamoeba app. is uncertain. In the present study. six type strains of group III Aconthamoeba spry. , A. culbertsoni, A. heniyi, A. pustulosc, A. palestinensis, A. royrebn and A. lenticulnto were subjected for the evaluation or their taxonomic validity by comparison of the isoeneyme patterns by isoelectic focusing on polyacrylamide gels, mitochondrial DNA (Mt DNA) restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) . and small subunit ribosomal DNA (ssu rDNA) PCR-RFLP patterns. The Mt DNA RFLP patterns were heterogeneous between the species. The type strains of A. pclestinensls and A. pustulosc showed almost identical patterns of isoenrymes and rDNA PCR-RFLP with an estimated sequence divergence of 2.6%. The other species showed heterogeneous patterns of isoenxymes and rDNA PCR- RFLP. It is likely that A. pustuLosc is closely related with A. palestinensis and that the former may be regarded as a junior synonym of the latter.
The present paper attempts to elucidate the taxonomic status of five species of Takydromus (T. amurensis, T. wolteri, T. tachydromoides oldi, T. kwagakunesis and T. auroralis) reported in Korean Peninsula to date. For this purpose 114 Takydromus specimens were collected from April 2003 to october 2004 in Southern Korean peninsula and morphological characters inclusive of the presence of contact between front-nasal and fostral and the number of femoral pores have been analyzed. The analysis reveals that T. kwagakunesis and T. auroralis should be synonymized to T. amurensis. In addition, the Korean Takydromus consists of two species of T. amurensis and T. wolteri.

This study aims to analyze and evaluate term suggestion services of major search portals, Naver and Google Korea. In particular, this study evaluated relevance and currency of related search terms provided, and analyzed characteristics such as number and distribution of terms, and queries that did not produce terms. This study also analyzed types of terms in terms of the relationship between queries and terms, and investigated types and characteristics of harmful terms and terms with grammatical errors. Finally, Korean queries and English queries, and popular queries and academic queries were compared in terms of the amount and relevance of search terms provided. The results of this study show that the relevance and currency of Naver's related search terms are somewhat higher than those of Google. Both Naver and Google tend to add terms to or delete terms from original queries, and provide identical search terms or synonym terms rather than providing entirely new search terms. The results of this study can be implemented to the portal's effective development of term suggestion services.
There are many reasons that fail to get appropriate information in information retrieval. Allomorph is one of the reasons for search failure due to keyword mismatch. This research proposes a method to construct alternative word candidates automatically in order to minimize search failure due to keyword mismatch. Assuming that two words have similar meaning if they have similar co-occurrence words, the proposed method uses the concept of concentration, association word set, cosine similarity between association word sets and a filtering technique using confidence. Performance of the proposed method is evaluated using a manually extracted alternative list. Evaluation results show that the proposed method outperforms the context window overlapping in precision and recall.

Elsholtzia hallasanensis, E. springia, and E. splendens var. fasciflora (Lamiaceae) were reported recently as new species or new varieties of E. splendens according to their morphological characteristics. To reappraise the taxonomic status of these additional taxa and to determine the relationships between all Korean Elsholtzia taxa except E. saxatilis, which is distributed in North Korea, molecular studies based on the nrDNA (ITS) and cpDNA (rpl16, and trnH-psbA) sequences of seven taxa of Elsholtzia and one outgroup were carried out. The molecular data support that E. angustifolia and E. minima are distinct species from E. splendens and E. ciliata, respectively, because they have several private marker genes and show monophyly. The molecular data also support that E. splendens has a very close taxonomic relationship with both E. hallasanensis and E. springia. We found that E. splendens var. fasciflora, with multiple inflorescence, was based on several private marker genes and on the monophyly of its trees, suggesting that it can be considered as a variety. Elsholtzia springia, with the same sequences and the same morphological characteristics with E. hallasanensis after transplanting, should be treated as a synonym of E. hallasanensis. Moreover, we consider the taxonomic status of E. hallasanensis as E. splendens var. hallasanensis (Y. Lee) N.S. Lee & C.S. Lee, stat. nov.
