Analysis and Design of a Soft-Switched PWM Sepic DC-DC Converter

  • This paper proposes a new soft-switched Sepic converter. It has low switching losses and low conduction losses due to its auxiliary communicated circuit and synchronous rectifier operation, respectively. Because of its positive and buck/boost-like DC voltage transfer function (M=D/(1-D)), the proposed converter is desirable for use in distributed power systems. The proposed converter has versions both with and without a transformer. The paper also suggests some design guidelines in terms of the power circuit and the control loop for the proposed converter.

  • 본 논문에서는 단위역률과 고효율을 갖기 위한 단일단 동기정류기형 비대칭 하프브리지 플라이백 컨버터 회로를 제안한다. 제안된 회로에서는 역률 개선단을 통해 입력전류의 리플이 줄어들게 되며, 거의 단위역률에 가까운 고역률을 갖게 된다. 또한 비대칭 펄스폭 변조에 의한 하프브리지 플라이백 DC/DC 컨버터는 영전압 스위칭 (ZVS) 동작을 하게 되며, 출력단에 동기정류기를 사용하여 스위칭에 의한 손실을 줄였다. 출력전압 24V, 최대 출력 200W, 스위칭 주파수 100kHz에서 제안된 컨버터의 성능을 입증하기위해 실험이 진행 되었다.

A New Approach for Constant DC Link Voltage in a Direct Drive Variable Speed Wind Energy Conversion System

  • Due to the high efficiency and compact mechanical structure, direct drive variable speed generators are used for power conversion in wind turbines. The wind energy conversion system (WECS) considered in this paper consists of a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG), uncontrolled rectifier, dc-dc boost converter controlled with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and adaptive hysteresis controlled voltage source inverter (VSI). For high utilization of the converter's power capability and stabilizing voltage and power flow, constant DC-link voltage is essential. Step and search MPPT algorithm which senses the rectified voltage ($V_{DC}$) alone and controls the same is used to effectively maximize the output power. The adaptive hysteresis band current control is characterized by fast dynamic response and constant switching frequency. With MPPT and adaptive hysteresis band current control in VSI, the DC link voltage is maintained constant under variable wind speeds and transient grid currents respectively.

  • 본 논문에서는 연료전지자동차의 저전압 배터리 충${\cdot}$방전을 위한 3상 양방향 DC-DC 컨버터를 제안한다. 제안한 3상 컨버터는 기존의 단상 컨버터에 비해 인터리빙 효과의 증대로 인한 입${\cdot}$출력 필터 사이즈 감소와 변압기의 이용률 증가로 인한 VA정격의 감소가 가능하며, 기존의 위상제어 방식의 3상 컨버터와 달리 입${\cdot}$출력전압이나 부하변동에 따른 무효 전류의 중가 문제가 없다. 또한 MOSFET 스위치를 사용하여 고전압 측에서는 비대칭 소프트 스위칭을 성취할 수 있고, 저전압 측에서는 동기정류 방식을 적용하여 도통손실을 감소시킬 수 있어 효율과 전력밀도를 더욱 향상 시킬 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 제안하는 3상 양방향 DC-DC 컨버터의 동작원리와 기존방식과의 비교분석을 수행하였으며 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증하였다.

고조파 전류 제거를 위한 새로운 전류 보상 기법 (Novel Current Compensation Technique for Harmonic Current Elimination)

  • This paper proposes a novel current compensation technique that can eliminate the harmonic currents included in line currents without computation of harmonic current components. A current controller with fast dynamics for an active filter is described. Harmonic currents are directly controlled without the need for sensing and computing the harmonic current of the load current, thus simplifying the control system. Current compensation is done in the time domain, allowing a fast time response. The DC voltage control loop keeps the voltage across the DC capacitor constant. High power factor control by an active filter is described. All control functions are implemented in software using a single-chip microcontroller, thus simplifying the control circuit. Any current-controlled synchronous rectifier can be used as a shunt active filter through only the simple modification of the software and the addition of current sensors. It is shown through experimental results that the proposed controller gives good performance for the shunt active filter.

Voltage Impacts of a Variable Speed Wind Turbine on Distribution Networks

  • The main purpose of this paper is to present a simulation model for assessing the impacts of a variable speed wind turbine (VSWT) on the distribution network and perform a simulation analysis of voltage profiles along the wind turbine installed feeder using the presented model. The modeled wind energy conversion system consists of a fixed pitch wind turbine, a synchronous generator, a rectifier and a voltage source inverter (VSI). Detailed study on the voltage impacts of a variable speed wind turbine is conducted in terms of steady state and dynamic behaviors. Various capacities and different modes of variable speed wind turbines are simulated and investigated. Case studies demonstrate how feeder voltages are influenced by capacity and control modes of wind turbines and changes in wind speed under different network conditions. Modeling and simulation analysis is based on PSCAD/EMTDC a software package.

  • Design of single state AC-DC converter with high power factor for low level applications is proposed. The proposed converter is obtained from the integration of a buck-boost converter and the half-bridge DC-DC converter. This converter gives the good power factor correction low line current harmonic distortions and tight output voltage regulations. This converter also has a high efficiency by employing an soft switching method and synchronous rectifier. The modelling and detailed analysis for the proposed converter are performed. To verify the performance of the proposed converter a 100W converter has been designed

  • In this study, the design of low voltage DC-DC converter with low triggering ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) protection circuit was investigated. The purpose of this paper is design optimization for low voltage(2.5V to 5.5V input range) DC-DC converter using CMOS switch. In CMOS switch environment, a dominant loss component is not switching loss but conduction loss at 1.2MHz switching frequency. In this study a constant frequency PWM converter with synchronous rectifier is used. And zener Triggered SCR device to protect the ESD phenomenon was designed. This structure reduces the trigger voltage by making the zener junction between the lateral PNP and base of lateral NPN in SCR structure. The triggering voltage was simulated to 8V.

  • Bidirectional DC-DC converters allow transfer of power between two dc sources, in either direction. Due to their ability to reverse the direction of flow of power, Dey are being increasingly used in many applications such as battery charge/dischargers, do uninterruptible power supplies, electrical vehicle motor drives, aerospace power systems, telecom power supplies, etc. This Paper Proposes a new bidirectional Sepic/Zeta converter. It has low switching loss and low conduction loss due to auxiliary communicated circuit and synchronous rectifier operation, respectively Because of positive and buck/boost-like DC voltage transfer function(M=D/1-D), the proposed converter is very desirable for use in distributed power system. The proposed converter also has both transformer-less version and transformer one.

  • 최근 고효율 전력변환을 위해 LLC 공진형 하프브릿지 컨버터의 동기정류기에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 기존 일반적인 다이오드 정류기를 사용하는 경우 출력전류에 비례하는 전력손실이 커서 대전력용으로 사용하기에는 적합하지 않다. 따라서 스위치를 이용한 동기정류기가 검토되고 있는데 동기정류기의 스위치를 구동시키기 위해서는 스위치를 구동시킬 수 있는 구동용 IC가 이용되고 있다. 동기정류기 구동 IC의 단점으로는 약 50%의 중부하 이하에서는 동작되지 않는 단점이 있어 이를 보완하기 위하여 변압기 1차측 전류를 검출하여 게이트 전압을 만들어 스위치를 구동시키는 회로를 제안하였다. 본 논문의 실험 결과 저전력 지점에서 동기정류기가 구동되었고 따라서 전력변환 효율은 기존의 다이오드 정류기에 비해 우수하며 효율개선효과가 있다는 것을 실험으로 보였다.
