Geochronology and Petrogenetic processes of the so-called Hongjesa granite in the Seogpo-Deogku Area (석포(石浦)-덕구간(德邱間)에 분포(分布)하는 소위(所謂) 홍제사화강암(洪濟寺花崗岩)의 지질연대(地質年代)와 생성과정(生成過程)에 대(對)한 硏究(연구))

  • Main aspects of this study are to clarify geochronology and petrogenetic processes of the so-called Hongjesa granite, which is a member of various intrusive rocks exposed in the northeastern part of the Ryongnam Massif, one of the Precambrian basements of South Korea. In this study, the Hongjesa grainte is divided into four rock units based on the geologic age, mineralogical and chemical constituents, and texture: the Precambrian Hongjesa granite gneiss (Hongjesa granite Proper) and leucogranite gneiss, the Paleozoic gnessic two mica granite, and the Jurassic muscovite granite. The Hongjesa granite gneiss is identified by its grayish color, slight foliation, and porphyroblastic texture. The leucogranite gneiss is distinct by its light gray color, sand medium to coarse grained texture. The gneissic two mica granite is distinguished from others by its strong foliation, containing gray-colored feldspar phenocrysts with biotite and muscovite in varying amounts. The muscovite granite occurs as a small stock containing feldspar phenocrysts along margin of the stock. These granitic rocks vary widely in composition, reflecting the facts that they partly include highly metamorphosed xenolith and schlierens as relics of magmatic and anatectic processes. In particular, grayish porphyroblasts of microcline perthite is characteristic of the Hongjesa granite gneiss, whereas epidote and garnet occur in both the Hongjesa granite gneiss and leucogranite gneiss. These minerals are considered to be formed by potassic metasomatism and contamination of highly metamorphosed rocks deeply buried under the level of the Hongjesa granite emplacement. The individual synchronous granitic rocks plotted on Harker diagram show mostly similar trends to the Daly's values. The plots of the Hongjesa granite gneiss and gneissic two mica granite concentrate near the end part of the calc-alkalic rock series on the AMF diagrams, whereas those of the leucogranite gneiss and muscovite granite indicate the trend of the Skaergaard pluton. These granitic rocks plotted on a Q-Ab-Or diagram (petrogeny's residua system) fall well outside the trough of the system. This can be attributed to the potassic matasomatism of these rocks. On the ACF diagram, these rocks appear to be dominantly I-type prevailing over S-type. The K-Ar ages, obtained from a total of 7 samples of the leucogranite gneiss, gneissic two mica granite, muscovite granite, porphyritic alkali granite, and rhyolitic rock, in addition to the Rb/Sr ages of the Hongjesa granite gneiss by previous workers, permit the rock units to be arranged in the following chronological order: The middle Proterozoic Hongjesa granite gneiss (1714-1825 m.y.), the upper proterozoic leucogranite gneiss (875-880 m. y.), the middle Paleozoic gneissic two mica granite (384 m. y.) the upper Jurassic muscovite granite (147 m. y.), the Eocene alkali granite (52 m. y.), and the Eocene rhyolitic rock (45 m. y.). From the facts and data mentioned above, it is concluded that the so-called Hongjesa granite is not a single granitic mass but is further subdivided into the four rock units. The Hongjesa granite gneis, leucogranite gneiss, and gneissic two mica granite are postulated to be either magmatic or parautochtonous, intrusive, and the later muscovite granite is to be magmatic in origion.

Treatment Outcomes of Brain metastasis from Papillary Thyroid Cancer (갑상선 유두암 뇌전이의 치료 효과)

  • Background/Objectives: Brain metastasis (BM) is a rare form of distant metastasis with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). Patients with BM of PTC carry a poor prognosis. The aim of this study was to contribute to the understanding of this disease by analyzing patients with BM of PTC. Materials & Methods: Between March 2003 and December 2013, the patient database was conducted to identify thyroid cancer patients treated. Among the 22,758 thyroid cancer patients, 14 (0.06 %) were identified to have metastasis to the brain during follow-up. The medical records of 14 patients with BM were retrospectively reviewed, focusing on the following: patient characteristics, synchronous or previous distant metastasis, treatments including whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and surgery, and characteristics on radiologic findings, time interval between first diagnosis of primary thyroid cancer and BM and survival after BM. Results: The mean age at initial diagnosis and BM were $50.9{\pm}15.8years$ and $61.3{\pm}12.7years$. The mean duration between initial diagnosis and BM was $10.4{\pm}7.9years$. Patients were treated with varied combinations of surgery, SRS and WBRT except 4 patients who had refused treatment. The median overall survival (OS) time after BM diagnosis was 10 months (range 1 - 19). Patients receiving treatment (WBRT and/or surgery, SRS) had a significant longer median OS of 16.5 months in comparison to 3.5 months for those treated without treatment. (p = 0.005) Conclusion: Patients who received aggressive treatment had a longer OS than those with only supportive care. Treatment such as surgery, SRS and WBRT should be considered in patients with BM.

A Study on Correlation Processing Method of Multi-Polarization Observation Data by Daejeon Correlator (대전상관기의 다중편파 관측데이터 상관처리 방법에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we describe the correlation processing method of multi-polarization observation data of the Daejeon Correlator. VLBI observations include single or multiple polarized observations depending on the type of object. Polarization observations are performed to observe the characteristics of the object. During the observations of the celestial object, polarization measurements are also performed to determine the delay values and causes of changes in the object. Correlation processing of polarization observation data of the Daejeon correlator is proposed by OCTAVIA of a synchronous reproduction processing apparatus that outputs data input to each antenna unit by using an output bit selection function to convert bits and the order of the data streams is changed, And the input of the Daejeon correlator is configured to perform the polarization correlation processing by conducting correlation processing by setting the existing stream number to be the same. Correlation processing is conducted on the test data observed for the polarization correlation processing and it is verified through experiments that the polarization correlation processing method of the proposed Daejeon correlator is effective.

  • Seed production of the cherry salmon, Oncorhynchus masou (Brevoort) were studied in terms of egg development, hatching rate, juvenile growth, smolt duration, smolt rate, and adult growth rates. Fork length and body weight of $0^+$ juvenile were $9.32{\pm}1.19\;cm$ and $9.36{\pm}3.50\;g$ for females and $9.07{\pm}1.02\;cm$ and $8.57{\pm}3.04\;g$ for males, respectively. Body weights of $1^+$ smolt were $84.09{\pm}18.1\;g$ and $86.33{\pm}41.2\;g$ for females and males, while body weights of $1^+$ parr were $101.88{\pm}60.9\;g$ and $98.38{\pm}39.6\;g$ for females and males, respectively. Monitoring of gonadosomatic index (GSI) confirmed that maturations of both sexes were not synchronous; males achieved highest GSI in September, while females achieved it in October.

  • Lately, since Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor(CMOS) image sensor system has low power, low cost and been miniaturized, hardware and applied software studies using these strengths are being carrying on actively. However, the products equipped with CMOS image sensor based polling method yet has several problems in degree of completeness of applied software and firmware, compared with hardware’s. CMOS image sensor system has an ineffective synchronous problem due to superfluous message exchange. Also when a sending of data is delayed continually, overhead of re-sending is large. So because of these, it has a problem in structural stability according to Polling Method. In this study, polling cycle was subdivided in high-speed synchronization method of firmware -based through MCU and synchronization method of Stepwise was proposed. Also, re-connection and data sending were advanced more efficiently by using interrupt way. In conclusion, the proposed method showed more than 20 times better performance in synchronization time and error connection. Also, a board was created by using C328R board of CMOS image sensor-based and ATmega128L which has low power, MCU and camera modules of proposed firmware were compared with provided software and analyzed in synchronization time and error connection.

Growth and heteromorphism of Leaves along Leaf Rank (Plastochron) of Woody Plants (목본식물의 엽순에 따른 잎의 생장과 이형성)

  • The growth, size and morphology of leaves, which foliated on the same shoot and time in the early growth season, were studied in 12 woody species in temperate deciduous forests of Korea, and the equation for the index of heteromorphism of leaves was fonnulated. The numbers of leaves per shoot were from 3 to 7 in early growth season and the numbers of synchronous leafing were from 2 to 6. All the leaves on a shoot were reached maximum values of specific leaf arells at the SIlme time nearly. The differences of the length (L) and breadth (B) of leaves along leaf rank (plastochron) were conspicuous, except for Quercus variabilis. Especially, in 10 species, the ~fferences of the neighbouring leaves were significant at 0.001 or 0.05 level. The index of leaf heteromorphism was calculated from the data based on $L\;{\times}\;B$ and LIB, and similar to differences of actual leaves along leaf rank. The values of index of heteromorphism were high in Carpinus tschonosldi, Styrax obassia, Ulmus davidiana, Rhamnus yoshinoi and Symplocos chinensis for. pilosa, and low in Sorbus alnifolia and Tilia amurensis. The index of heteromorphism had no relation to other characters of the leaf or life fonn of the species. It was thought that the differences along leaf rank were related to the degree of adaptation to environment, especially to changing air temperature in early growth season.season.

Environmental Test Results of a Flight Model of a Compact Imaging Spectrometer for a Microsatellite STSAT-3 (과학기술위성3호 소형영상분광기 발사모델 환경시험 결과)

  • A compact imaging spectrometer (COMIS) was developed for a microsatellite STSAT-3. The satellite is now rescheduled to be launched into a low sun-synchronous Earth orbit (~700 km) by the end of 2012. Its main operational goal is the imaging of the Earth's surface and atmosphere with ground sampling distance of 27 m and 2 - 15 nm spectral resolution over visible and near infrared spectrum (0.4 - 1.05 ${\mu}m$). A flight model of COMIS was developed following an engineering model that had successfully demonstrated hyperspectral imaging capability and structural rigidity. In this paper we report the environmental test results of the flight model. The mechanical stiffness of the model was confirmed by a small shift of the natural frequency i.e., < 1% over 10 gRMS random vibration test. Electrical functions of the model were also tested without showing any anomalies during and after vacuum thermal cycling test with < $10^{-5}$ torr and $-30^{\circ}C\;-\;35^{\circ}C$. The imaging capability of the model, represented by a modulation transfer function (MTF) value at the Nyquist frequency, was also kept unvaried after all those environmental tests.

The Effects of Cyclic AMP, Theophylline and Caffeine on Sporulation of Aspergillus niger in the Defined Media (검정곰팡이(Aspergillus niger)의 포자형성(胞子形成)에 미치는 cAMP, 테오필린 및 카페인의 영향(影響)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • Aspergillus niger van Tieghem was cultured by the method of synchronous and submerged culture. The sporulation occurred through the culture and its life cycle and differentiation were completed in the experiments. The effects of cAMP, theophylline and caffeine on the sporulation of A. niger were investigated. In the sporulation medium, the sporulation was stimulated by addition of cAMP and its optimum concentration was $10^{-4}M$. In the sporulation medium, the sporulation was stimulated by addition of theophylline and its optimum concentration was 10 mg/ml. In the sporulation medium, the sporulation was stimulated by addition of caffeine and its optimum concentration was 300 mg/ml. Theophylline added to the sporulation medium together with cAMP enhanced the promotion effect of cAMP on sporulation. Caffeine added to the sporulation medium together with cAMP enhanced the promotion effect of cAMP on sporulation. In the sporulation medium, the sporulation was stimulated by addition of neither AMP nor ATP. In the potassium acetate medium, cAMP, theophylline and caffeine stimulated the sporulation, respectively.

Design of In-Wheel Motor for Automobiles Using Parameter Map (파라미터 맵을 이용한 차량용 인휠 전동기의 설계)

  • Electric Vehicle (EV) can be categorized by the driving method into in-wheel and in-line types. In-wheel type EV does not have transmission shaft, differential gear and other parts that are used in conventional cars, which simplifies and lightens the structure resulting in higher efficiency. In this paper, design method for in-wheel motor for automobiles using Parameter Map is proposed, and motor with continuous power of 5 kW is designed, built and its performance is verified. To decide the capacity of the in-wheel motor that meets the automobile's requirement, Vehicle Dynamic Simulation considering the total mass of vehicle, gear efficiency, effective radius of tire, slope ratio and others is performed. Through this step, the motor's capacity is decided and initial design to determine the motor shape and size is performed. Next, the motor parameters that meet the requirement is determined using parametric design that uses parametric map. After the motor parameters are decided using parametric map, optimal design to improve THD of back EMF, cogging torque, torque ripple and other factors is performed. The final design was built, and performance analysis and verification of the proposed method is conducted by performing load test.

  • In this paper, the magnetic sensing system is designed and implemented for the safe security in internet commerce system. When the payment is required inthe internet commerce system, the magnetic sensing system will get the information from a credit card without keyboard input and then encrypt and transmit the information to server. The credit card sensing system, which is proposed in this paper, is safe from keyboard hacking because it encrypts card information immediately in its internal chip and sends the information to host system. For the protection of information, the magnetic sensing system is basically based on a synchronous stream cipher cryptosystem which is related to a group of matrices. The size of matrices and the bits of keys for the best performances are determined for various cases. It is shown that for credit card payments. matrices of size 2 have good performance even at most 128bits keys with the consideration of inverse matrices. For authentication of general-purpose data, the magnetic sensing system needs more than 1.5KB data and in this case, the optimum size of matrices is 2 or 3 at more 256bits keys with consideration of inverse matrices.
