  • Purpose: This study was done to examine symptom experiences and related factors in angina patients. Method: The participants were 92 patients admitted to C university hospital between October and December 2004. The tools used were a questionnaire on symptom experience related to angina developed by Gensini(Coronary Angiographic Gensini Score). Global Assessment of Recent Stress Scale and a tool measuring performance of health behavior. Results: The mean score for symptom experience was relatively low (M=27.65, SD=18.44) as was the score for coronary severity (Gensini score) was 16.30 point (SD=18.04). The mean score for perceived stress was moderate (M=30.16, SD=12.26). Compliance was relatively good in these patients with angina (M=61.55, SD=7.60). Analysis of the correlation of symptom experience showed a statistically significant positive relationship with perceived stress (r=.410, p=.000). There was significant negative relationship (r=-.251, p=.016) between symptom experience and compliance. In the regression analysis, symptom experience was found to be significantly influenced by stress ($R^2$=.168, p=.000), age ($R^2$=.057, p=.002), and economic status ($R^2$=.061, p=.007). These variables explained 26.2% of the variance in symptom experience. Conclusion: The results of this study provide evidence that symptoms of angina can present not only as chest pain itself but also with fatigue, shortness of breath, and sleep disturbance as the most common symptoms.

  • This research is to identify the effects of Hopelessness, as a single latter among intermediary factors causing depression, on the Internet addiction of teenagers. This research measured the teenager students' state of hopelessness using Hopelessness Depression Symptom Questionnaire (HDSQ), which demonstrates the extent of hopelessness depression symptom, and Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS), which exhibits Beck's hopelessness scale, after conducting the analyses on the reliability of those questionnaires, and question factors. Correlations between the group in hopelessness state and the user group via the Internet Addiction Self-Test (K-scale) was comparatively analyzed. The study result reveals that reliability and validity of the questionnaire were high. As a result of the comparative analysis between the hopelessness state group and the Internet addicted user group through sub-factors of the questions, all the sub-factors showed statistically significant differences. In particular, the average score of the high risk Internet addicted user group was highest in both HDSQ and BHS. Consequently, these results imply that hopelessness affects the Internet addicted users.

  • In order to research the interrelationship of symptoms of 5 visceral diseases through Pearson's correlative coefficient and to understand the diagnostic importances of each symptom and sexual differences in the main symptoms of each visceral diseases using Cronbach alpha. For this 500 female and 120 male cases of questionnaire were collected and analyzed. In the main symptoms of 5 visceral diseases, there were a little differences between this results and existing symptom-complex system. And in the comparison of most frequently manifesting symptoms to male and female subject, Heart and Pancreas and Kidney disease were almost same, but Liver disease was different and Lung disease was slightly different. Conclusively, the diagnostic reliability of the abstracted symptom-complex of 5 viscera was graded from Kidney(Cronbach alpha 0.8771555), Pancreas(0.865978), Liver(0.815013), Heart(0.78653) to Lung disease(0.6294695) sequentially. And the each Cronbach alpha was valuable to be permitted as diagnostic criteria of 5 visceral diseases.

  • Purpose: Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a burdensome disease affecting many children. A clinical examination is reported to be unreliable to diagnose GERD in children. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the Pediatric Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Symptom and Quality of Life Questionnaire (PGSQ) and endoscopic and histopathological findings in children with symptoms suggesting GERD. Changes in the PGSQ score in children with esophagitis as response to one month therapy were recorded as secondary outcome. Methods: This is a prospective cohort study in the pediatric outpatient clinic in an Indonesian tertiary hospital. Children aged 2-17 years old with clinical symptoms suspected of GERD are included in the study. Blinded endoscopic and histopathological examination was performed in all patients before one month proton pump inhibitors (PPI) therapy. The PGSQ information was collected at inclusion and after one month PPI treatment. Results: Fifty-eight subjects were included. Esophagitis was found in 60.9% of subjects according to endoscopy and 58.6% according to histology. There was no significant relationship between the PGSQ score and endoscopic (p=0.781) nor biopsy (p=0.740) examinations. The PGSQ showed a low diagnostic value compared to endoscopy and biopsy (area under the curve [AUC] 0.477, p=0.477, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.326-0.629 and AUC 0.474, p=0.740 (95% CI 0.321-0.627 respectively). The PGSQ improved significantly post one month of PPI treatment. Conclusion: The PGSQ cannot be used to diagnose esophagitis in children with clinical symptoms suggesting GERD. However, the PGSQ can be used to monitor the treatment response in children with esophagitis.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the relationships of depression symptom, self-esteem, and stress with health-related quality of life(HRQOL) in patients with hypertension registered to a community health center. Methods: This study was a correlational survey using a convenience sampling. A total of 110 patients diagnosed with hypertension were recruited from a health center in Gyeonggi-do. The questionnaires used were the Cardiovascular Disease Specific-HRQOL questionnaire, Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and Perceived Stress Scale. The acquired data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 22.0. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed. Results: Moderate depression symptom(${\beta}=-.368$, p<.001), severe depression symptom (${\beta}=-.450$, p<.001), stress(${\beta}=-.339$, p=.001), and gender(${\beta}=-.148$, p=.049) were significant predictors for the HRQOL. Multiple linear regression showed that 51.8% ($R^2=.518$) of the variance in the HRQOL was explained. Conclusion: Based on these results, development of an intervention or education program, to decrease depression symptoms and stress is recommended. This may improve the HRQOL in patients with hypertension registered to a community health center.
