  • Bolted opening structures is widely applied for class 1 machinery of nuclear plant with strict design requirement. As the shape of the bolted opening structure is non-axisymmetric due to the existence of stud bolts although it is almost axi-symmetric, 3D analysis is required to satisfy such kind of design requirements. Because as much as possible trial computations are need to get an optimal design condition in the limited period of basic design, an easy and fast analysis tool is useful in the design stage. In the paper, a transformation technique of non-axisymmetric problem into quasi-axisymmetric has been proposed based on the general purpose commercial code ANSYS. Both the pre-processor which incorporates the technique and prepares data and post-processor which prepares arranged results from the huge output of commercial code have been developed to help the design engineers.

  • NSBT(No Slip Boundary Treatment) is a newly developed scheme for the treatment of a no slip condition on the solid wall of obstacle in a flow field. In our research, NSBT was used to perform LBM simulation of a flow over a circular cylinder to determine the flow feature and aerodynamics characteristic of the cylinder. To ascertain the applicability of NSBT on the complex shape of the obstacle, it was first simulated for the case of the flow over a circular and square cylinder in a channel and the results were compared against the solution of Navier-Stokes equation. The simulations were performed in a moderate range of Reynolds number at each cylinder position to identify the flow feature and aerodynamic characteristics of circular cylinder in a channel. The drag coefficients of the cylinder were calculated from the simulation results. We have numerically confirmed that the critical reynolds number for vortex shedding is in the range of 200$\sim$250. For the gap parameter $\gamma$ = 2 cases at Re > 240, the vortex shedding were symmetric and it resembled the Karmann vortex. As the cylinder approached to one wall, the vorticity significantly reduced in length while the vorticity on the other side elongated and the vorticity combined with the wall boundary-layer vorticity. The resultant $C_d$ by LBM concurred with the results of DNS simulation performed by previous researchers.

  • This paper presents an active vibration control of cantilever beams under disturbances by a primary force. A direct velocity feedback control using a pair of PZT actuator and a velocity sensor is considered. Variation of the stability and performance with the locations of the sensor/actuator pair is investigated. It is found that the maximum gain varies with the locations of the sensor/actuator pair significantly. The maximum gain shows a symmetric distribution along the beam length with respect to the center point, although the boundary condition of the beam is unsymmetric. The control performance is affected by the location of the primary force as well as the location of the sensor/actuator pair. The active control system can more effectively reduce the vibration when the primary force is located close to the fixed boundary.

  • Purpose: The masserteric space is an important tissue compartment of the face, but a disease in it is difficult to diagnose and treat. The submasseteric abscess is located between the masseter muscle and mandibular ramus with different appearances such as sepsis, infection, or tumor. Especially the common misdiagnosis of submasseteric abscess is acute or chronic parotitis. The purpose of this report is to pay special attention to the possible diagnosis of submasseteric abscess for the symptoms of unilateral cheek swelling and tenderness that accompany marked trismus. Methods: A 11-year-old boy came to our hospital because of facial swelling, tenderness, and trismus in a history of left cheek swelling and toothache. We diagnosed his case as submasseteric abscess by CT scan and surgical intervention was performed. Under general anesthesia, the abscess was opened by the intraoral incision and considerably massive pus was drained. Results: Swelling, tenderness, and trismus became to subside during postoperative 10 days and general condition and vital signs became stable. After 6 months, CT scan showed that both masseteric muscles were symmetric and there was no periosteal reaction of the mandible. Conclusion: In conclusion, submasseteric abscess is a rare infection with the symptoms of cheek tenderness and marked trismus. A detailed medical history and clinical examination of a patient as well as computed tomography(CT) are important tools in the accurate diagnosis and efficient treatment of the submasseteric abscess. Adequate drainage, removal of cause, and antibiotic infusion are the management of choice.

  • Vacuum freeze drying process by which frozen water in a drying material is removed sublimation under vacuum condition, is now applied to various industrial field such as the manufacturing and packaging of pharmaceuticals in pharmaceutical industry, the drying of bio- products in bio-technology industry, the treatment of various quality food stuff in food technology, and so on. The Knowledge about the heat and mass transfer characteristics related with the vacuum freeze drying process is crucial to improve the efficiency of the process as well as the quality of dried products. In spite of increasing needs for understanding of the process, the research efforts in this fields are still insufficient. In this paper, a numerical code that can predict primary drying in a vial is developed based on the finite volume method with a moving grid system. The calculation program can handle the axis- symmetric and multi-dimensional characteristics of heat and mass transfer of the vial freeze drying process. To demonstrated the usefulness of the present analysis, a practical freeze drying of skim Milk solution in a vial is simulated and various calculation results are presented.

  • On this paper study is concentrated on the breakup and atomization characteristics of spray formed by impinging jet injectors(like-doublet) used in liquid rocket engine(LRE). On the process of breakup and atomization, injection velocity and ambient gas pressure are the main parameters, so that these are used as variables that specify the experimental condition. Injection velocity varied from 3m/s to 30m/s and ambient gas pressure changed from 0.1MPa to 4.0MPa with nitrogen gas. As results, measured physical quantities decreased with increasing injection velocity and ambient gas pressure. But the decreasing ratios are different from those of the theory.

  • A simplified model for an isolated aluminum particle burning in air is presented. Burning process consists of two stages, ignition and quasi-steady combustion (QSC). In ignition stage, aluminum which is inside of oxide film melts owing to the self heating called heterogeneous surface reaction (HSR) as well as the convective and radiative heat transfer from ambient air until the particle temperature reaches melting point of oxide film. In combustion stage, gas phase reaction occurs, and quasi-steady diffusion flame is assumed. For simplicity, 1-dimesional spherical symmetric condition and flame sheet assumption are also used. Extended conserved scalar formulations and modified Shvab-Zeldovich functions are used that account for the deposition of metal oxide on the surface of the molten aluminum. Using developed model, time variation of particle temperature, masses of molten aluminum and deposited oxide are predicted. Burning rate, flame radius and temperature are also calculated, and compared with some experimental data.

  • In this study, both a finite element analysis and an experimental analysis are executed to investigate the mechanical characteristics of dielectric material effects on warpage. Also, viscoelastic material properties are measured by DMA and are considered in warpage simulation. A finite element analysis is done by using both thermal elastic analysis and a thermo-viscoelastic analysis to predict the nonlinear effects. For experimental study, specimens warpage of non-symmetric structure with body size of $22.5{\times}22.5$ mm, $37.5{\times}37.5$ mm and $42.5{\times}42.5$ mm are measured under the reflow temperature condition. From the analysis results, experimental warpage is not similar to FEA results using thermal elastic analysis but similar to FEA results using thermo-viscoelastic analysis. Also, its effect on substrate warpage is increased as core thickness is decreased and body size is getting larger. These FEA and the experimental results show that the nonlinear characteristics of dielectric material play an important role on substrate warpage. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that non-linear behavior characteristics of a dielectric material should be considered to control warpage of FCBGA substrate under conditions of geometry, structure and manufacturing process and so on.

  • Rigorous longitudinal modal transmission-line theory (L-MTLT) is applied to analyze maximum power transfer in asymmetric grating-assisted directional couplers(A-GADC). By defining a coupling efficiency amenable to rigorous analytical solutions and interference between symmetric and asymmetric supermodes, the power exchange of TE modes as a function of propagation distance is numerically evaluated. The numerical result reveals that maximum power transfer occurs at a grating period ${\Lambda}_{eq}$, in which the insertion loss of supermodes is equal to each other. That is, it is generally different from conventional phase-matching condition of GADC. Furthermore, as the asymmetric profile of grating change to symmetrical profile, the coupling length decreases and the coupling efficiency for power transmission increases.
