In the teaching of Chinese characters, making full use of the phonetic function of phonetic symbols can help learners improve their learning efficiency. The research on the characteristics of phonetic symbols and the rules of their construction is the premise of teaching Chinese characters with phonetic symbols. The phonetic symbols that can accurately prompt the pronunciation of the whole word and the homophone characters that they constitute provide the applicable materials for the teaching of Chinese characters. The split method simply and intuitively reflects the internal relationship among shape, sound and meaning in pictophonetic characters. "The analogy method of homophonic character group" and "the converse method of homophonic character group" are the combination of the function of the sound prompt and the characteristics of the analogy and induction of homophonic character, which can not only help students save the time of memorizing the sound, but also effectively increase the amount of literacy. The quantitative analysis of phonetic symbols and homophone symbols is of great significance to the classification of Chinese characters and the improvement of textbook editing.
Each amusement park has a wayfinding system, while symbols are important mediums to guide tourists to find their destinations. It is very important that whether the meanings of symbols recognized by tourists immediately. This paper mainly discusses the recognition of graphic symbols in amusement park, and proposes the improvement suggestions. Materials for this study were drawn from 20 different graphic symbols of a theme amusement park in Taiwan. The testees were required to evaluate the design of graphic symbols based on symbolic meaning and graphics recognition to summarize the confusion matrix. The results show that there are three groups of graphic symbols easy to be confused, and five symbols not meeting a criterion of 67% correct responses. The reasons were discussed, and improvement and relevant suggestions have been proposed, which may be helpful to redesign of symbols.

This study aims to examine the symbolism of the emblems of World Expositions by using Victor Turner's symbolic theory as a research method, and to reveal the symbolic types behind them by classifying the emblem designs of different periods and themes. The research object is 12 comprehensive World's Fair emblems from the 1939 New York World's Fair in the United States to the 2025 Osaka World's Fair in Japan, as identified by Bureau International des Expositions. The research method mainly adopts documentary research to collect historical information and theoretical frameworks related to the design of World's Fair emblems. In the analysis process, Victor Turner's symbolic sign theory is used as the main analytical framework to link the design elements of emblems to their relevance to specific societies and cultures in order to reveal the themes, values and ideas represented by the emblem symbolism. The results of the study show that the design of the Expo emblem uses different symbols, including material symbols, behavioral symbols, sensory symbols, natural symbols, social symbols and virtual symbols, to convey the core concepts, themes and values of the Expo. Through different types of symbols, the Expo emblem shows a wide range of concerns about technology and the future, mankind and the world, nature and ecology, and society and innovation. The symbolic design of the emblem plays an important role in conveying the core concept and theme of the Expo.

According to whether language symbols are used to solve puzzles, puzzle games can be roughly divided into puzzle games with language symbols and puzzle games without language symbols. Puzzles games with language symbols can be subdivided into dialogue puzzles games and word puzzles games. These different puzzle-solving methods have different characteristics and have different effects on the empathy in the game. In horizontal scrolling games, due to the characteristics of the third-person perspective of horizontal scrolling games, there is always a 'fourth wall' between the player and the controlled character, making it difficult for players to gain a empathy when playing such games .Especially when there is a dialogue between a player-controlled character and an NPC, the sense of distance between the player and the character will be further amplified. As one of the most common game types in side-scrolling games, side-scrolling puzzle games can be divided into language symbols-based puzzle game and non-language symbols-based puzzle game according to whether language symbols are used to solve puzzles, and then promote the development of the game plot. We combine the characteristics of horizontal scrolling games, and analyze the influence of language symbols on empathy in puzzle-solving games by summarizing the game characteristics of two different puzzle-solving methods. The results show that in horizontal scrolling puzzle games, solving puzzles without using language symbols can better expand the player's sense of plot substitution.

Transformin the huge size of drawings into a suitable format for CAD system and recognizng the contents of drawings are the major concerans in the automated analysis of engineering drawings. This paper proposes some methods for text/graphics separation, symbol extraction, vectorization and symbol recognition with the object of applying them to electronic cirucit drawings. We use MBR (Minimum bounding rectangle) and size of isolated region on the drawings for separating text and graphic regions. Characteristics parameters such as the number of pixels, the length of circular constant and the degree of round shape are used for extracting loop symbols and geometric structures for non-loop symbols. To recognize symbols, nearest netighbor between FD (foruier descriptor) of extractd symbols and these of classification reference symbols is used. Experimental results show that the proposed method can generate compact vector representation of extracted symbols and perform the scale change and rotation of extracted symbol using symbol vectorization. Also we achieve an efficient searching of circuit drawings.
In this paper, we have proposed Auto-TUS, an automatic transcription module of three union symbols-hyphen, dash and tilde (‘’, ‘―’, ‘∼’)-using their linguistic contexts. Few previous studies have discussed the problems of ambiguities in transcribing symbols into Korean alphabetic letters. We have classified six different reading formulae of the union symbols, analyzed the left and right contexts of the symbols, and investigated selection rules and distributions between the symbols and their contexts. Based on these linguistic features, 86 stereotyped patterns, 78 rules and 8 heuristics determining the types of reading formulae are suggested for Auto-TUS. This module works modularly in three steps. The pilot test was conducted with three test suites, which contains respectively 418, 987 and 1,014 clusters of words containing a union symbol. Encouraging results of 97.36%, 98.48%, 96.55% accuracy were obtained for three test suites. Our next phases are to develop a guessing routine for unknown contexts of the union symbols by using statistical information; to refine the proper nouns and terminology detecting module; and to apply Auto-TUS on a larger scale.

Despite the availability of 3D CAD systems, the designers in shipyards still use 2D CAD systems because of the need to produce drawings rapidly and a shortage of labor. The design information of ship structure contained in 2D drawings is represented by symbols that are well known among designers in shipyard. The shapes of symbols are recognized by analysis of experienced and knowledgeable designers. We propose a method for automatic recognition of 2D symbols and extraction of design information from the midship drawings. The shape and rationale of 20 symbols used in ship design have been analyzed, and symbols have been classified according to the analysis. Based on the classified symbols, the developed system recognizes the symbols expressed in 2D drawings. The meaningless geometric shape is translated into the design information including designer's intents. The extracted design data can be applied to the downstream design process in shipyards, and the 3D ship model can be automatically created.
There are many symbols in mathematics and physics to simplify complex operations of caculations. But there're no symbols in certain part in spite of routine caculations which are often have to be done, and some proper new symbols are proposed in this paper.
We introduce formal symbols of product type, of zero class, and of minimum type and show that the formal power series representations for $e^p$ and $e^q$ are formal symbols of product type giving the same pseudodifferential operator, where p and q are formal symbols of minimum type and p - q is of zero class.

Automotive symbols are more widely needed for new, convenient driving devices in automobiles. Good automotive symbols should be detectable, identifiable at first glance, easily learned, recognizable, and produce quick responses after practice. In this paper, a methodology for developing and evaluating automotive symbols is suggested. It includes multiple tests, such as comprehension, perceptual quality, appropriateness, and integrated evaluation. 28 symbols were tested and evaluated by the suggested methodology for convenient driving systems, such as a lane departure warning system (LDWS), cruise control (CCS), and a collision warning system (CWS). Most of the KS R ISO 2575 symbols had higher scores of comprehension, perceptual quality, and appropriateness, but the sunroof and camera symbols had lower scores. Standard symbols with several new functions should be developed. This methodology could be useful for developing and evaluating automotive symbols.
