  • New switching signal pattern for four switches is proposed to prevent the shortage of PWM ac choppers. In the proposed technique, four signals to four power switches are generated without current transformer, while the conventional technique requires sensing the polarity of input voltage by voltage comparator and checking the direction of input current by the current transformer. The signal circuit built by the proposed technique is simple, and reduces also the switching loss.

To obtain the lide comfortability, the impact caused by velocity pattern switching should be minimizLD b by removing the discontinuity of velocity and acceleration. In this paper, new velocity pattern generation m method which ensure the continuity of velocity and acceleration during pattern switching is proposed. • A new current controlled PWM technique with NPC structure is proposed in this paper. A current controlled PWM technique with neutral-point-clamped pulse-width modulation inverter composed of main switching devices which operates as switch for PWM and auxiliary switching devices to clamp the output terminal potential to the neutral point potential is described. The proposed current controller has a first and second current band. The switching pattern will be made by the first current band. According to the second current band, the output state of the switching pattern is changed into positive and negative state. This inverter output contains less harmonic content and lower switching frequency than that of conventional current controlled PWM technique at the same current limit. Two inverters are compared analytically and the performance is investigated by the computer simulation.

  • In this paper, a technique is proposed that enables secondary users to evaluate channel availability in cognitive radio networks. Here, secondary users estimate the utilization of channels via predicting the traffic pattern of primary user, and select a proper channel for radio transmission. The proposed technique reduces the channel switching rate of secondary users (the rate of switching from one channel to another) and the interference on primary users, while maintaining a reasonable call blocking rate of secondary users.

  • Alignment pattern of checkerboard was constructed by the stylus of atomic force microscope. Orientational bistability of the nematic liquid crystal was realized on that frustrated surface alignment. Macroscopic orientational switching between two perpendicular directions took place by an appropriate in-plane electric field. The threshold electric fields decreased in both switching directions as temperature increased. The focused laser heated up only the limited domains in the cell including a light-absorbing medium. Irradiating the laser concurrently with an appropriate electric field, we switched the selected unit domains in the alignment pattern. The switched domains maintained stably the switched direction without the disturbance from the exterior. Extending and repeating this process, we realized extremely fine devices of bistable switching.

  • Three-phase current is reconstructed from the dc-link current in an AC machine drive with a single current sensor. Switching pattern modification methods, in which the magnitude of the effective voltage vector is secured over its minimum, are investigated to accurately reconstruct the three-phase current. However, the existing methods that modify the switching pattern cause voltage and current distortions that degrade sensorless performance. This paper proposes a variable-magnitude voltage signal injection method based on a high frequency voltage signal injection. The proposed method generates a voltage reference vector that ensures the minimum magnitude of the effective voltage vector by varying the magnitude of the injection signal. This method can realize high quality current reconstruction without switching pattern modification. The proposed method is verified by experiments in a 600W Interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM) drive system.

  • This paper proposes a harmonic reduction approach for a pulse width modulation (PWM) AC-AC converters using Bee Colony Optimization (BCO). The optimal switching angles are provided by BCO to minimize harmonic distortions. The sequences of the PWM switching angles are considered as a technical constraint. In this paper, simulation results from various optimization techniques including BCO, Genetic Algorithm (GA), and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) are compared. The test results indicate that BCO can provide a better solution than the others in terms of power quality and power factor improvement. Lastly, experiments on a 200W AC-AC converter confirm the performance of the proposed switching pattern in reducing harmonic distortions of the output waveform.

  • In this paper, an efficient switching pattern to equalize the size of transformer is proposed for a multi-level inverter employing cascaded transformers. It is based on the prior selected harmonic elimination PWM(SHEPWM) method. Because the maximum magnetic flux imposed on each transformer becomes exactly equal each to each, all transformers can be designed with the same size regardless of their position. Therefore, identical full-bridge inverter units can be utilized, thus improving modularity and manufacturability. The fundamental idea of the proposed switching pattern is illustrated and the analyzed theoretically. The validity of the proposed switching strategy is verified by experimental results.

  • In order to verify the performance of brushless DC (BLDC) motors, the simulation method has been widely used. The current of a BLDC motors flows on two phase windings to obtain a constant torque. However, the freewheeling current caused by the inductance component of a BLDC motor exists at the commutation point so that the current can flow on three phase windings at the same time. Due to the changes of the excited phases, the model equations are frequently changed during BLDC motor drive operation. The model equations can be also changed by the applied switching pattern since the current path in the inverter circuit changes according to switching pattern. A BLDC motor system can utilize various switching patterns for many different purposes. However, such changes of the model equations complicate the simulation procedure. In this paper, the technique to set up model equations is proposed to ease the simulation of a BLDC motor system through an inverter circuit analysis. The proposed technique will be verified using the C language. Although this method does not provide the level of detail obtainable from commercial simulation tools like PSIM or SIMULINK, it can provide an efficient way to quickly compare various conditions.
